Mr. Meng Hualong Tortured in the Hot Summer at the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province

Mr. Meng Hualong, nearly 60, a practitioner from Deyang City, Sichuan Province, has been imprisoned since 2005 at the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Sichuan Province. He has suffered from such torture methods as "tying the ropes," electrical baton shocks, and being forced to wear a winter hat and down coat for 10 hours on a hot 86oF summer day.

On the morning of July 2nd, 2005, Mr. Meng Hualong distributed leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in the market at his workplace, Deyang City Refractory Materials Factory. Two of the market staff members notified Feng Qi (male) of the Deyang City 610 Office¹. Feng and two officers from the Gongnongqiao Police Station (also called Jinshan Street Police Station) arrested Mr. Meng and imprisoned him at the Jingyang District Detention Centre. Mr. Meng was then sentenced to forced labour and has been imprisoned at the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp in Mianyang City, Sichuan Province.

On December 2nd, 2005, the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp openly interrogated practitioners who refused to wear the forced labour tag. The practitioners were Mr. Luo Qingsheng, Mr. Mi Tao, Mr. Zou Guoping, Mr. Lu Chunshan, Mr. Wu Xingdong, and Mr. Tian Xu. These practitioners were handcuffed and had to stand on a stage. Camp deputy director Zhao Zeyong (male) was also on the stage and proceeded to publicly slander Falun Gong. Mr. Meng Hualong was among the inmates in the audience who were forced to attend. He shouted "Falun Gong is good!" to interrupt the slander. Guard He Yuan (male) incited and worked with guard Mao Lin (male) and others to use "tying the ropes" and electric baton shocks to torture Mr. Meng.

On the morning of August 17th, 2007, guard Zhao Yongming (male) slandered Falun Gong on the stage publicly with the intention to provoke an incident. Mr. Meng Hualong again interrupted with "Falun Gong is good!" Seven or eight trained inmates pulled him by his feet, covered his mouth and carried him from the conference site. Mr. Meng was put in solitary confinement. On the guards' instructions, several inmates forced Mr. Meng into two down winter coats and a winter hat, and then forced him to stand in 86oF summer weather for 10 hours. Mr. Meng, close to 60 years old, suffered a lot.

During his more than one month of solitary confinement, the guards stripped Mr. Meng's right to bathe and wash his clothes, in additional to denying him the ability to change his clothes. Mr. Meng reaked of musky body odour. Several inmates took turns torturing him daily. Mr. Meng had very little sleep, and ate the worst food. As a result, his legs swelled with oedema, his chest became congested, it was difficult for him to breathe, and his legs and feet shook with tremors.

In October 2007, the guards colluded with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members in the Deyang City 610 Office and the Deyang City Refractory Materials Factory. They stopped Mr. Meng's pension payments and caused Mr. Meng's family to fall on hard times.

Mr. Meng Hualong is imprisoned at the Xinhua Forced Labour Camp. Every moment he is suffering in mind and body.
