Ms. Liu Shuhua Tortured to Mental Disability and in Critical Condition at Shandong Province Women's Forced Labour Camp

Guards at the Shandong Province No. 2 Women's Forced Labour Camp (also known as Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp in Zibo City) instigated criminal inmates who were drug addicts to torture Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Shuhua. She was tortured so badly that she became mentally disordered. She kept shaking and weeping. She would mumble nonsense and could not sleep or even eat. She is in critical condition. Instead of sending her for treatment, the guards continued to find ways to persecute her.

Ms. Liu is currently incarcerated in the No. 4 group of the No. 2 Division in the labour camp, where she has already been for more than six months. She was made to stand for long periods of time every day. She was only allowed to sleep after midnight, and sometimes not till after 2 a.m. The guards in the No. 2 Division, Zhao Wenhui, Zhao Li, Sun Zhenhong, and others kept her locked up in the police inspection office, forcing her to stand and depriving her of sleep. She was continuously monitored by the criminal prisoners. If she was found asleep, the criminals were given demerit points. Criminal inmates Qiang Doudou and Jiang Lixia crushed her fingertips in a vice, sexually assaulted her, beat her, and verbally abused her.

Liu Shuhua gradually began to appear dazed and incoherent. It is possible that the guards have been adding unknown drugs to her food. Prisoner Jiang Yan still forced her to help with her chores. Ms. Liu has become mentally disordered, and the guards have fabricated lies and attributed her condition to practising Falun Gong.

Ms. Liu, in her 40s, was a resident of Chewang Village, Damoujia Town, Gaomi City. On October 17th, 2007, officers from the Zhougezhuang Police Station ransacked her house and arrested her. She was detained in the Gaomi City Detention Centre. In January 2008, she was transferred to the No. 2 Division in the Shandong Province No. 2 Women's Forced Labour Camp. The police forced her to stand for extended periods of time, violently beat her, and refused to let her sleep. Besides torturing her like this, they did not give her sufficient food to eat.

Practitioners Ms. Yin Hua, Ms. Zhou Yongping, Ms. Hou Xiufang, Ms. Zong Xiulan, Ms. Sun Zhaoqin, Ms. Liu Hong, and Ms. Wang Jing were also incarcerated in the No. 2 Division. They refused to write the so called "thought reports" in which they were ordered to slander Falun Gong and refused to attend the classes where Falun Gong was being slandered. Because they refused to renounce their belief, they have been tortured and closely monitored. They are now in critical condition. Many other practitioners were also isolated and tortured.

Practitioners have been persecuted in Wangcun Forced Labour Camp since 2000. Some of the methods used to torture them have included: standing for extended periods of time, not being allowed to sleep for several days, not being allowed to go to the restroom, heavy duty forced labour, and having unknown drugs administered to them.
