Ms. Xu Yanling, a 51-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Wuchang City, is employed by the Wuchang Radio Administration Bureau. From day one of practising Falun Gong, she adhered to the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," followed high moral standards and always thought of others first with anything she did or said. Nonetheless, a nice person like Ms. Yu was tortured by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). She is no longer paid for work performed, has been arrested three times, and imprisoned and tortured. The persecution of Ms. Xu has also affected her elderly parents. Her mother became sick from worry and her father has aged considerably.

On January 8th, 2001, Xu Yanling and three other practitioners went to Du County Village to distribute leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. They were falsely accused of committing wrongdoing by some villagers, and Ms. Xu was arrested by Du County Police Captain Zuo Feng (male) and four male police officers, and taken to the Du County Station. Within an hour she was transferred to the Wuchang Almond Flower Detention Centre. She held a hunger strike to protest her detention and was force-fed by prison guards and inmates. Detention centre Captain Bai Laosu (male) ordered inmates to shackle Ms. Xu with steel chains that weighed 19.5 kg (about 43 pounds) for ten days.

In late December 2002, Fu Yanchun (male) from the Wuchang City 610 Office1, along with fellow officers, arrested Ms. Xu at her workplace. Fu choked Ms. Xu and kicked her a few times. He forced her into a police car, and imprisoned her in the brainwashing centre on the third floor of the Wuchang Seeding Company building. She was not released until just before the Chinese New Year. The CCP official frequently came to harass Ms. Xu at her workplace and pressured her boss not to pay her. The boss acceded and stopped paying Ms. Xu's wages. Her husband had passed away and her daughter had moved out of their home. Therefore, Ms. Xu moved in with her parents. Beginning in 2004, police officer Zhang Zuguon (male), from the State Security Centre said, "If Ms. Xu Yanling shows up at work, I will arrest her." Therefore, she no longer could go to work. She was forced to leave her parent's home and become homeless to avoid further persecution.

On June 6th, 2008, police officers Zhang and Fu from the 610 Office deceived Ms. Xu and three other practitioners into visiting practitioner Mr. Dong Xiaodong. They claimed that Mr. Dong had been in a traffic accident. Police assistant commissioner Feng Zhimin, vice squad officer Tong Wei, State Security Centre officer Liu Bo and other officers (all male) from Cheng Sin Station drove in four police vans to Mr. Dong's home. They hid inside the house and told Mr. Dong's brother to open the door for Ms. Xu. They arrested all four practitioners upon their arrival and detained them at the Wuchang Iron West Detention Centre. Ms. Xu's daughter travelled a long distance to visit her, but police officer Zhang refused family visitation. He claimed that the case was "very important" and still under investigation. Ms. Xu family came to see Zhang and asked, "Why did you lie and arrest her at midnight without any evidence of wrongdoing?" Officer Zhang said "No evidence? I will search her home." Zhang and his deputies broke into her parents' home without showing police badges, but found no evidence. Zhang also demanded to search her sister's home but her sister refused. Twenty days later, Zhang claimed that Ms. Xu brought together a group of people, and she was sentenced to one year of forced labour.

Ms. Xu is currently being held at the Harbin City Labour Camp, in the Second Squadron. There are many practitioners imprisoned at this camp. The deputy chief is a man with the family name of Huo and the assistance deputy chief is Zhang Bo, also male. Zhang Bo is known for his relentless and inhuman persecution of practitioners.

Ms. Xu is forced to perform slave labour. She is forced to work for 13 to 14 hours daily, gluing paper bags and packaging toothpicks and chopsticks. She is beaten if she doesn't reach the quota assigned to her.

Note

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
