Tangshan City, Hebei Province recently saw a large-scale arrest of Falun Gong practitioners. The police also ransacked the practitioners' homes. Thirteen practitioners were arrested; nine are at the Fengnan Detention Centre, and the fate of the other four remains unknown. Below is information pertaining to the arrests.
On February 20th, 2009, police arrested Mr. Dong Jinbo and Ms. Li Yanzhi, two practitioners in Dazhuangzi Village, Fengnan Town. The police also confiscated some personal belongings. Dong Jinbo had the following items confiscated, valued at about 50,000 yuan1: three computers, one printer, one digitally-controlled engraving machine, 1,000 yuan cash, and other items. Dong Jinbo and Li Yanzhi are now held at the Fengnan Detention Centre.
On February 20th, when Ms. Li Sulan was cleaning Qingnian Road, police arrested her and took her to the Yinfeng Police Station. Ms. Li Sulan is a practitioner in Xibanqiao Village.
On February 20th, Fengnan Town police (including police station head Zheng Liankui and policeman Wang Shusheng) confiscated personal belongings from the home of Hu Yinshun and Yao Jianwen, a married couple who live in Xiqingzhuang Village, Fengnan Town. A computer and printer were taken. The police also threatened to detain Yao Jianrong, who was able to escape.
The morning of February 21st, about ten people from the district 610 Office2 and from the Xige Town Police Station confiscated practitioner Ms. Li Xuemin's personal belongings in her absence. Feng Shuanglai, Yuezhiliu Village Party secretary, led the assault. Ms. Li Xuemin's mother, in her 80s, and 8-year-old granddaughter were at home. The police madly searched everywhere to find "evidence" and did not leave until one hour later.
On the morning of February 21st, about eight people from the Fengnan District 610 Office and from the Xige Town Police Station went to the home of practitioner Ms. Dong Guihuan who lives in Meng Village in Xige Town. They arrested her and confiscated personal possessions. Ms. Dong Guihuan is held at the Fengnan District Detention Centre.
At 2:00 p.m. on February 21st, Fengnan police confiscated personal items from Mr. Zuo Desheng and Ms. Wang Huilin.
At 4:00 p.m. on February 21st, Fengnan police confiscated personal items from Dong Shouzhu, a practitioner in Li Zhuangzi Village, Huang Gezhuang Town. They took away a computer, a printer and some other items.
It is said that Fengnan District practitioner Li Yanzhi was arrested on the way home after work. No detailed information is known.
