At around 3 p.m. on February 25th, 2009, Ms. Liang Yuzhen was arrested by police officers from Heshan City. She was reported to the police while she distributed Falun Gong informational materials in the countryside. At 9:00 p.m., her home was ransacked.

The police took Ms. Liang, whose hands were handcuffed behind her back, to her home. Only her 89-year-old grandmother was there. The police didn't show any search warrant but searched her home anyway, leaving her apartment in a mess. They also confiscated what cash she had at home and took some of the informational materials, as well as Falun Gong books, her brother's computer, and other items. The whole process lasted about an hour. When they were taking her away, her grandmother held her and said, "I need my granddaughter to take care of me." The police forcefully loosened the grandmother's hands and took Liang Yuzhen with them.

The police didn't have any legal documents for her arrest, to search the home, or for her detention. On the morning of February 26th, a call from the Heshan Detention Centre indicated that Ms. Liang was detained there. Her grandmother was so scared that she couldn't eat nor sleep. Her other family members were very worried about her.

Liang Yuzhen and her sister had been arrested in 2000. At that time, while in the detention centre, Ms. Liang went on a hunger strike for over ten days. She suffered from brutal force-feeding. Later she was sentenced to two years of forced labour and suffered two years of maltreatment in Sanshui Women's Forced Labour Camp.

Since July 20th, 1999, Ms. Liang and her sister have been arrested, detained, or send to forced labour several times. After she was released from the forced labour camp, she was forced to go from place to place for a long time. Police officers often went to her house to harass her. Her phone was monitored.
