Ms. Zhu Lianzhen, a fifty-four-year-old woman, is from Guanyin town of Leshan city, Sichuan province. Because she refused to give up her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, she was sent to Wutongqiao detention centre by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in Leshan city. After being detained for forty days, she was sentenced to a year in forced labour camp. Currently she is being detained at Sichuan Women's Forced Labour Camp at Nanmusi area of Zizhong city.

On the morning of May 28th, 2008, over ten people, including the local Guanyin town governmental official, Zhang Yelan, the secretary to Luo Zhonghua, the director of women's committee Ren Dingrong, and the director of Wutongqiao public security bureau Ren Huaifei all came to Zhu Lianzhen's home. They deceived her by saying that they came to visit the victims of the earthquake. As soon as they entered the room, they ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, and leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. That night, they took Zhu Lianzhen to the Wutongqiao Detention Centre where she was detained for forty days. (There were also five other female practitioners detained there, three of them were from Wutongqiao area).

At the Wutongqiao Detention Centre, police interrogated practitioners one by one. In the first several days, she was not allowed to eat or use the toilet. The police threatened her by saying that they would starve her to death. They forced her to take pictures and reveal the source of her Falun Gong leaflets. When all of their methods failed, they again attempted to deceive her, by saying that she would be released immediately after revealing her source for her materials.

The police also extorted money from them. Practitioners were not allowed to bring their daily items and their families were not allowed to send food. All daily items needed to be purchased at the detention centre. However, the prices were marked up at least three times over regular market prices.

Seeing that they could not brainwash practitioners this way, the police wrongfully labelled Zhu Lianzhen with some kind of crime and sent her to the Sichuan Women's Forced Labour Camp in Nanmusi area of Zizhong city, where she has been suffering torture.

At the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp, the newly-arrived practitioners are detained on the third floor, with three to four inmates (all are involved in crimes of dealing drugs or prostitution) watching one practitioner. Every morning, they need to get up at 6:30 a.m. and finish cleaning and using the toilet (many people with few toilets) within five minutes. After breakfast, they have to start intense labour immediately. They are not allowed to practise the Falun Gong exercises or read Falun Gong books. Furthermore, they are not allowed to smile or wear their own clothes. On hot summer days, they are only allowed to take showers once a week. Practitioners are forced to write the "repentance and promise not to practise Falun Gong" and other articles attacking Falun Gong.

For practitioners who refuse to give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, they forced them to keep in a certain position and used in an army for a long time. If they are not transformed1 in one month, their term would be increased by fifteen days. Practitioners who refuse to wear the uniform face the same punishment. Practitioners who are detained on the third floor would be sent to the forth floor for escalated torture if they are not transformed in one month. In addition to the torture from police, practitioners also are tortured by other inmates and are forced to massage these other inmates as well.. Practitioner Zhang Lunmin suffered a long-term nose bleed as a result of excessive labour, caused by massaging the other inmates.

Note

1. "Reform or Transform" Implementation of brainwashing and torture in order to force a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong. (Variations: "reform", "transform", "reformed", "reforming", "transformed", "transforming", and "transformation")
