Mother and Daughter from Kunming City Arrested and Sent to Prison for Practising Falun Gong

Ms. Long Huaxian, a Falun Gong practitioner in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, was arrested for no valid reason on June 2nd, 2008 by policemen from Du District Domestic Security Team of Kunming City. On the same night of her arrest, she was sent to Kunming City No. 2 Detention Centre to be incarcerated. On January 5th, 2009, she was secretly put on trial and sentenced to imprisonment by the Kunming City Intermediate Court. Ms. Long is currently appealing the sentence. Prior to the court session, the court agreed to let Ms. Long's husband be her legal defendant, but then they rescinded their agreement later.

Before Long Huaxian's detainment, her daughter who is also a Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Zhou Jin, was taken away on April 22nd, 2008. She was taken from her own grocery shop by police from Du District Domestic Security Team. On the same night, she was sent to Guandu District Detention Centre. On November 7th, 2008, the Intermediate People's Court in Kunming City held a secret trial without informing her family members. They sentenced Zhou Jin to 3 years of imprisonment. Zhou Jin wanted to appeal, but her appeal was rejected. Up until today, they have not informed her family members which prison Zhou Jin was sent to. During the whole legal proceedings, the court personnel used all kinds of excuses to deceive the family members.

After her daughter Zhou Jin was incarcerated, Long Huaxian was forced to become homeless to avoid persecution. There is an eighty-year-old grandmother at home who is worried for them and crying daily. One day, officers from the Shuguang Police Station shut down the grocery shop that they are operating legally. At the same time, the policemen from the Domestic Security Team ransacked the residence of Long Huaxian and Zhou Jin. They forcefully took away personal computers, Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. The policeman Feng Jun even made Zhou Jin's father sign the items retention slip but refused to give a copy of the slip to the family member. The family member asked for the slip many times but Feng Jun used all kinds of excuses not to give it.

On June 2nd, 2008, Long Huaxian was abducted near the Jinbi market square at Chengnan road in Kunminghuan by the Du District National Security Team of Kunming City. They were led by team leader Feng Jun. As mentioned above, she was detained, sentenced, and is in the process of appealing.
