On March 17th and 18th, 2009, at least 14 practitioners were arrested by officials from the 610 Offices1 of Taoxu, Mengyin, Duozhuang, and other towns in Mengyin County, Shandong Province, during a large scale operation.
According to reports, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held a meeting in Jinan, where a quota for the arrest of practitioners was determined for each town. The 610 Office in Mengyin County organized its operation during a meeting on March 17th, 2009.
The following practitioners were persecuted:
On March 17th, 2009, the homes of several practitioners in Duozhuang were searched. Ma Yuliang, head official of the 610 Office, arrested Ms. Sheng Yuhua and confiscated her DVD player, recorders, and other items.
On March 17th, Ms. Liu Guimei from Tiecheng Village in Mengyin County was arrested, and her home was searched. Mengyin High School teachers Ms. Lou Shuying and Mr. Cui Hongde were also arrested.
On March 18th, police officers from the 610 Offices of towns within Mengyin County conducted a joint raid on practitioners' homes. Any "evidence" found led to the arrest of a practitioner.
Ms. Kan Jinzhi, an employee at the Mengyin Cotton Manufacturing Factory was arrested on her way to work, but she escaped. Her boss, Ms. Liu Lirong, was arrested the same day.
Ms. Sun Zhaoying, a credit union worker living in the Diecuixiao District of Mengyin County, was arrested on March 18th. According to her neighbours, a 610 Office policeman broke a window and entered her house because she refused to open her door.
