On June 18th, 2009, the Jinshantun Court of Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province secretly opened a session in Xilin District Court and gave long sentences to three Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Zhang Peixun, Mr. Zhang Yongsheng and Mr. Li Congfu were given prison sentences of nine, eleven, and eight years, respectively.
The Jinshantun Court opened a session on June 1st, 2009, which started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 6:30 p.m. Six defence lawyers for the practitioners refuted the Procuratorate's fabricated evidence, and stated that it is not illegal to believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
It was clear that the judge intended to convict the three practitioners with a charge of interfering with the implementation of law. When the practitioners' lawyers asked which law the practitioners interfered the implementation of, the judge could not respond. The court did not dare to hold the subsequent June 18th session, where the sentencing happened, in public. The session was held in a secret location, and the court did not inform the practitioners' families or their lawyers.
The three practitioners have submitted an appeal of the unjust sentences. Their families have also protested the sentences and said that they would sue those directly involved in the torture of the three practitioners.
