On the morning of July 6th, 2009, renowned Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas was invited to be a guest speaker on a programme by the Sakura Japanese TV Network broadcast via satellite in Japan. He told the viewers that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is still harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners, and he provided a large amount of detailed evidence to prove that the Chinese Ministry of Health deliberately lied by saying that five percent of organs for transplants were from executed prisoners. Its real purpose was to cover up the CCP's atrocities. The host and hostess of the programme felt it heinous to commit such brutal and inhuman acts. The programme lasted over an hour, and broadcast during prime time that evening.
Three years ago, Mr. Matas and Canada's former Secretary of State for Asia-Pacific David Kilgour co-authored and published an investigative report titled "Allegations of Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China." This time, Mr. Matas came to Japan, presented the latest findings, and further concluded that hospitals associated with the CCP's military colluded with prisons to harvest organs from living Falun Gong practitioners for black market sale.
During the programme, Mr. Matas rationally analysed through photo illustrations that the annual data of the organ transplants is not directly related to the annual data of the number of executed prisoners. Conversely, it is significantly related to the persecution of Falun Gong. The root cause of the crimes lies in the CCP's policy of suppressing Falun Gong. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started, tens of thousands of practitioners have been imprisoned and subjected to brutal torture and abuse for remaining steadfast in their belief. If they insisted that they would not give up Falun Gong even after the torture, they would disappear from this world.
Mr. Matas stated that since the release of their independent investigation report, the CCP's reaction was to destroy evidence, weakly negate all charges against it, close the related websites mentioned in the report, and use the state-controlled media to deny further investigations and evidence collection.
He said that since the "Human Organ Transplant Ordinance" went into effect on May 1st, 2007 in China, the number of organ transplants dropped slightly, but the number started to rise again since the beginning of 2008. The root cause is that the CCP has not changed its policy on the persecution of Falun Gong, and related departments are still greedy for profits.
Mr. Matas called upon the Japanese people not to go to China for organ transplants, and Japanese doctors to refuse to train Chinese organ transplant doctors. He said that what is most fundamental is to demand that the CCP stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and bring to justice the criminals who harvested organs from Falun Gong practitioners.
