On August 17th, 2009, Mr. Li Yong, a practitioner, from the Xianan District of Xianning City, Hubei Province, was beaten by three local security police officers after they saw him distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. After they beat him, they took him to the Henggou Police Station.

On August 18th, Henggou police officers and the Public Security Bureau of Xianan Police Department detained Mr. Li, who had already been tortured and had wounds all over his body, in the Xianan District Detention Centre.

To protest the persecution, Mr. Li went on hunger strike. As a result of his silent protest, he was force-fed. Ignoring the fact that he was in poor physical condition due to the torture, the 610 Office1 in the Xianan District and Public Security Bureau sentenced him to a forced labour camp for one year. On September 28th, he was sent to the Shayang Forced Labour Camp. The labour camp refused to take him because he failed the physical examination.

However, the Xianan Public Security Bureau and detention center still refuse to release him and continue to detain him. Currently Mr. Li's condition is critical.

People who have been involved in the persecution of Li Yong include Zheng Chizhong, Wang Jian and others from the Henggou Police Station, and Zeng Guohua, Fan Zhong, Xu Chengzhong, and others from the Public Security Bureau of the Xianan Police Department.

Note

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
