Judge Han Shilin of the Weicheng District Court in Weifang City, Shandong Province sentenced Mr. Lu Xinliang to nine years in prison after a closed door trial on October 19th, 2009. Mr. Lu had been held at the Weifang Detention Centre for 15 months before the trial. Police officer Zhang Lei from the Weifang Railway Station kicked and punched Mr. Lu's wife when she went to the police station to ask for her husband's release.
A group of officers from the Weicheng District Railway Station Police, the Weicheng District Police Department, and the Weifang City Police Department broke into Mr. Lu's rented home, which is located near the railway station, at around 6:30 a.m. on July 9th, 2009. They arrested and took Mr. Lu to the police station. They also took a computer, equipment he used for his business, and other personal belongings. They even hired a large truck from a moving company and took away bulk property at around 10:00 a.m. Mr. Liu did not have time to put on his clothes before being arrested. The police pushed him down on the ground, stepped on his head, and handcuffed him before they took him away.
Mr. Lu Xinliang's wife went to the railway police station in the afternoon on July 9th to ask for his release. Deputy Police Chief Zhang Lei brutally beat her from inside the room to the outside and then kicked her down the stairs. He then told four more officers to surround her and violently beat her. One of the officers yelled, "We'll beat you to death!"
Judge Han Shilin from the Weicheng Court put Mr. Lu on trial on July 31st, 2009, without having informed his family. Mr. Lu urged the court to present evidence, but Judge Han completely disregarded the law and even arrogantly yelled at Mr. Lu in court.
Judge Han Shilin is in his 50s. When Mr. Lu stood trial, Han refused to let Mr. Lu's family attend the proceedings. He demanded that his family members bring their ID cards and residence permits, but the Weifang police had confiscated their ID cards and residence permits earlier.
