Persecution Suffered: Detention, beatings, extortion, hanging up, torture, food deprivation, forced labour.
Since July 20th, 1999, for almost 11 years now, I have been brutally persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because I practise Falun Gong. The persecution has injured me physically and mentally. It has also caused my family members emotional pain and suffering, as well as financial difficulties.
I started to practise Falun Gong in the second half of 1995. After I began to practise, my illnesses, including varicosity, all disappeared. I gained a healthy body and I continuously improved my character by following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
On the first few days after July 20th, 1999, when the CCP started to persecute Falun Gong, our local practitioners still insisted on doing the group exercises outside. Officers from Dongguangchang Police Station in Changchun City arrested me and I was detained at the Balibu Detention Centre for 15 days. The police also forcefully took our tape recorder that we used to play the exercise music and never returned it.
On November 19th, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong. I also went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong and displayed banner that said, "Falun Gong is good." Right away I was beaten, arrested, and taken to the Tiananmen Square Police Station. The police registered all the arrested practitioners' information. They asked me why I came to Beijing. I said I came to explain to the government that Falun Gong is good. They said, "The government has stipulated that all the Falun Gong practitioners who come to Beijing to appeal from October on will be considered enemies of the government. You are now an enemy of the government."
Police Jump from the Table onto My Chest and Abdomen
In the afternoon, I was transferred to the Xuanwu District Detention Centre and was brutally tortured. An officer named Jiang called over four or five other policemen. One grabbed my head and used a toilet brush to hit the right side of my face fast and hard. He did not stop until he was really tired. He hit me about 50 to 60 times, and my face under my right eye was swollen with purple and blue bruises.
Then the others started to beat me and kick me. They handcuffed me behind my back and pushed me down on the ground face up. Then they kicked my chest and abdomen very hard. Two of them stepped on my chest and abdomen at the same time and stomped on me fast and fiercely. They still weren't satisfied. Two of them jumped up on the table and, one at a time, jumped down onto my chest and abdomen. But they still felt this was not cruel enough, so they jumped down on my chest and abdomen together. When they saw that I was no longer moving and there was a lot of blood under me, they thought that my intestines had squeezed out and I was dead. They all ran away.
My hands were cuffed behind me. The handcuffs cut deep into my wrists as they stepped and jumped on me. The blood the police saw was from my wrists.
As they brutally tortured me, I heard a very pitiful cry coming from the room next door. Later I found out that a Falun Gong practitioner had been tortured to death by police officers using a mop handle to stab at his chest. Later they took me to a cafeteria, where they took pictures, got fingerprints, and made a record of the persecution of all the practitioners. I heard two officers read the record. They said, "Today, three more Falun Gong practitioners were tortured to death."
After that I was taken to the Changchun City Office in Beijing by officers from the First Section of the Changchun City Police Department and was beaten again in the office. The next day, I was taken back to Changchun City with more than 30 other practitioners. I was detained at the Balibu Detention Centre in Changchun City for a month. After that, I was sentenced to three years of forced labour and was sent to the Second Team of Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City. Six months later, the police extorted 5,000 yuan1 from my family and then released me on bail.
Tied up, Hung up from the Ceiling, and Restrained on the Iron Chair
Around March 10, 2002 (after the Truth Clarification Video Broadcast on March 5 in Changchun), officer Zhou and another officer from Changtonglu Police Station in Changchun City arrested me at work and took me to the police station. They went to my home and took away all my Falun Dafa books, lecture audio tapes, exercise music tapes, and portable music player. Station chief Xian asked if I still practised Falun Gong. I said I did. Then he incited officer Zhou and three or four others to torture me with "rope tying." (My hands were twisted behind my back and tied together with rope. The rope was tied in a special way so that it got tighter when pulled. The police then inserted bottles between my back and my tied arms until there was no way to insert anymore. At the same time, they kept pulling on the rope, which made me feel the terrible pain of my joints being severely torn.) The police brutally tortured me this way for a whole night. After eight years, my arms still hurt when I stretch them to my back.
The next day, the police took me to the Third Detention Centre in Changchun City without following any legal procedures. Three days later, the Third Criminal Investigation Team of Nanguan District Police Department in Changchun City interrogated me overnight. During the interrogation, I was hung in an iron cage (my hands were separately cuffed to an iron cage suspending my whole body off the ground. The handcuffs dug deep into my wrists) and restrained on an iron chair (the iron chair is made of iron pipes. Victims are restrained on the iron chairs with both arms and legs tied for a long period of time. The ankles and elbows are usually injured severely.) A police officer named Liu shouted, "The government gave the order that it is better to wrongfully kill one thousand than let a single one go. We beat practitioners as hard as we can. If they are beaten to death, it will be counted as suicide."
After the police tortured me for a whole day and night, they sent me back to the Third Detention Centre. A month later, the police withdrew the release on bail for me and sent me to the Sixth Team of Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp, where I suffered from all kinds of brutal physical and mental torture.
Hung up from the Radiator on the Ceiling
In September 2004, I went to Xinmin Square in Changchun City to clarify the truth to the public and give out informational cards and booklets. A few elementary school students reported me to the police. The police arrested me and took me to the Guilinlu Police Station in Changchun City. Officers Zeng Jiali, Cao Haizhi, and others pushed me down on the ground and beat and kicked me. Then they tied me with ropes and hung me up from the radiator on the ceiling for a whole day and night, without giving me anything to eat. The next day I was taken to the Second Detention Centre in Changchun City and brutally persecuted. Four days later I was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour and sent to Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City. At first the labour camp refused to accept me due to my poor physical condition. But officers Zeng Jiali and Cao Haizi forced them to accept me and said, "Since he is a Falun Gong practitioner, you must accept him no matter how bad his physical condition is."
In the beginning of 2005, the forced labour camp did blood tests on all the Falun Gong practitioners and recorded the results and the practitioners' names on the computer, assigning each an ID (the CCP would use the information later for live organ harvesting.) In Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp, the imprisoned practitioners constantly suffered from all kinds of physical and mental torture. They were also forced to put in long hours of labour making folding papers and other kinds of products. In March 2005, more than ten practitioners including myself were transferred to Weizigou Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City. We were forced to sit on a bamboo bench from morning until bedtime. Collaborators Wang Liming and Zhu Jiahui and the forced labour camp guards tried to "transform" us. If we refused to give up our belief, the forced labour camp did not allow us to sleep. Wang Liming also beat me and Hao Hongfa, who was over 60 years old. According to just prisoners, Wang Liming and other collaborators were paid 2,000 yuan every month by the forced labour camp.
In 2008 before the Beijing Olympic Games, two officers from Changtong Road Police Station came to my home to harass me and my family with the excuse of checking residency registrations. They demanded that I give them my telephone number (in order to monitor my telephone). I refused. They would not leave. Finally my wife, who does not practice Falun Gong, had to give them her phone number. During that time, the CCP Politics and Law Committee in Changchun City incited the CCP Party secretary in my office to monitor me.
