In April of 2010, practitioner Xie Hanzhu, detained at the 3rd Prison in Guangdong Province (also called Meizhou Prison) asked his father to appeal his twelve-year sentence to the provincial superior Procuratorate, after being interrogated by the Meijiang district public security bureau and Xue Qingwen from the national security division. According to related sources, his information was transferred to the Meizhou Procuratorate.
Xie Hanzhu was detained at Meizhou Prison nearly five years ago, in September of 2005. His whereabouts have rarely been known. In the past year, his family was only allowed to visit him after the political office of the prison sent out a special notice. Prison officials did not allow his relatives to see him for two or three months around the spring festival of 2009. In the subsequent visit, his family observed him walking abnormally, and suspected that this was the result of a beating. Until this May, his family has not received another notice from prison officials, allowing them to visit him. The family is wondering if this has to do with his appeal.
At the end of 1999, Xie Hanzhu was expelled from his work unit under the order of Mei County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) officials, because he practised Falun Gong and did the exercises in public. He was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison and detained at the Sanshui labour camp in Guangdong province. After Mr. Xie served his full term at the end of 2001, Mei County 610 Office officials and police officers from the county public security bureau took him to the Mei County Fuda Detention Centre and brainwashing class in the city police school without notifying his family. He was forced to give up his beliefs.
Xie Hanzhu was finally released on December 31st, 2002, after a hunger strike lasting nearly twenty days, which left him in extremely weak condition. The perpetrators still extorted over two thousand yuan1 in so-called "food expenses" from his father.
On February 3rd, 2005, Mr. Xie was arrested again by Meizhou area 610 Office officials. After interrogation and physical torture, he was sentenced to twelve years in prison. The details of his case and his account of the whole process was published on Clearwisdom.net. More information can be found at http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2006/5/19/73472.html
