Falun Gong practitioner Liu Yuehong was arrested in April 2008. She was sent to Masanjia Women's Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province for a two-year term in July, 2008. In the forced labour camp, they attempted to force Ms. Liu to "transform" (give up her beliefs) and brutally tortured her.
On April 23rd, 2008, Ms. Liu Yuehong was forcibly arrested by officers from the Ganjiakou Police Station in Beijing Haidian District. First, two people from the Residential Committee knocked on the door. When she opened the door, seven or eight people forced their way into her home, pushed her down and then searched her home. More than 200 books and pieces of material exposing the persecution of Falun Gong were confiscated.
Ms. Liu was transferred to Haidian District Detention Centre the same day that she was taken to the police station. After a few days, the police asked for an examination fee from her husband, falsely claiming that they were going to give Ms. Liu a physical exam. When Ms. Liu's husband arrived at the police station, police officer Zhao Jun showed him a search warrant, and then searched their house again.
At the beginning of June, Ms. Liu Yuehong was detained at the Beijing Dispatch Section. She was transferred to Masanjia Women's Forced Labour Camp on July 14th. While she was at Masanjia Women's Forced Labour Camp, she encountered Zhao Yonghua and Wan Shuzhen, who were former Falun Gong practitioners. They had gone astray due to brainwashing and torture, and tried to "transform" her. Wan Shuzhen even tortured Ms. Liu by forcing her to stand for four days. Ms. Liu was forced to recite the Chinese Communist Party's 30 regulations, sing songs that praised the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and practice steps. They tortured, beat, and used electric batons to shock those who didn't do these well. Practitioners Zhang Lianying, Lang Dongyue, Liu Yanqin, Wang Xiaoyun, Liu Guifang, Zhang Yinying and Su Wei were all beaten and injured on their arms, legs and back. Still they were forced to practise steps. The police also forced Ms. Liu Yuehong to watch DVDs that slandered Falun Gong. He closed the window and turned the volume to the highest setting.
On November 3rd, 2009, Ms. Liu Yuehong was transferred to the special case team. Team leader Pan ( Police ID 2178142) and Zhao worked on transforming her. It lasted for about eight days. During this period, Ms. Liu Yuehong was brutally tortured, including being forced to stand for a long period of time, kneeling, remaining handcuffed in a painful position for extended periods of time, and being denied drink, food, and toilet use. They taped her legs to force her to sit with her legs double-crossed. Police Zhang Huan (police ID 2108455) was monitoring her. The police forced Liu Yuehong to write statements to renounce practising Falun Gong. Liu Yuehong wrote: I am determined to practise Falun Gong. Zhang Huan called Liu's home, threatening her family as a means of applying pressure on her. Her husband was afraid of being implicated, so he threatened to divorce her. On November 11th, the police handcuffed Ms. Liu Yuehong. Policeman Pan forced Ms. Liu to put her fingerprints on a written copy of statements to renounce practising Falun Gong. Then she was sent back to Team 5.
Note
Yuan Shuzhen (a former volunteer at Fushun's Falun Gong Assistance Centre) gave up Falun Gong after forced brainwashing. Her whole family moved to Shenyang City, and she became a supernumerary officer specialising in "transformation."
Zhao Yonghua, whose situation is similar to Yuan Shuzhen, specialises in transforming Falun Gong practitioners. Zhao Yonghua uses various methods such as coercion, deceit, and extension of prison terms.
