Mr. Miao Xinglong Endures Ten Days of Brutal Torture at the Suihua Forced Labour Camp

Mr. Miao Xinglong was arrested by the police from the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and police station on July 19th, 2002. In August 2002, Mr. Miao was sent to Fuyu Forced Labour Camp in Qiqihar. In April 2003, without notifying his family, Mr. Miao was transferred to the Suihua Forced Labour Camp, where he endured brutal torture.

On the same night Mr. Miao was transferred, prison guards Zeng Lingjun and Fan Xiaodong hit and kicked him. They also used four electric batons to shock Falun Gong practitioner Wu Hongjun. The prison guard forced Mr. Miao to stand facing a corner of the wall with his face touching the wall, he was watched by four inmates and was not allowed to move an inch. If he moved his face a little, the inmates would hit him from behind.

Later that evening, the prison guards went to see Mr. Miao to ask whether he had "transformed" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] or not. Mr. Miao started to tell them the truth about Falun Gong. After only one sentence, Zeng Lingjun grabbed Mr. Miao's head and started to bang his forehead against the wall. There were bumps on Mr. Miao's head. Zeng Lingjun repeated this over and over. Prison guard Fan Xiaodong said, "We will take care of him tomorrow. As they were leaving, they told the inmate to make Mr. Miao stand. Mr. Miao was forced to stand until 4 o'clock in the morning.

On the second day, Mr. Miao was forced to stand from 6 o'clock in the morning until 2 o'clock the next morning. Fan Xiaodong went to Mr. Miao's cell at 9 o'clock that night, he told Mr. Miao to turn away from the wall. Mr. Miao's legs were swollen and numb so he could not move. Fan Xiaodong pushed Mr. Miao on the floor, then pulled him up and asked whether he was "transformed" or not. Mr. Miao replied he had not. Fan Xiaodong puffed his cigarette, and put the red hot cigarette tip between the ring finger and little finger of Mr. Miao's right hand. After the cigarette tip turned dark, he puffed on it more and put it back in the same place. He repeated this three times. The smell of burning flesh hovered in the air, and the blisters on Mr. Miao's hand were broken. Fan Xiaodong said to the inmates watching, "Let him stand" and left. Mr. Miao stood there until 2 o'clock in the morning.

The next day was Sunday, and Fan Xiaodong was on duty. Around 9 o'clock in the morning, Fan took Mr. Miao to the prison guard's office and forced him to watch fabricated video about Falun Gong until 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Fan Xiaodong then asked Mr. Miao for his thoughts about the video. Mr. Miao replied that the videos were all fabricated to frame Falun Gong's founder and damage Falun Gong. Fan Xiaodong started to madly beat Mr. Miao all over his body. Fan stopped when Mr. Miao's teeth fell out and there was blood dripping from his nose. There was blood on the wall and the floor. Fan Xiaodong called some inmates in to clean up the blood, and they were in shock when they saw what had happened. Fan screamed at them, "What are you looking at? Clean it up!"

The fourth day was a Sunday, and the prison guards were plotting to "transform" Mr. Miao. They told the inmates to watch Mr. Miao closely. The inmates told Mr. Miao that he would be interrogated that night. At 6 p.m., Zeng Lingjun and the other guards came to Mr. Miao's cell drunk. They called the inmates to clean up the classroom, which was right next to Mr. Miao's cell.

Around 8 p.m., a group of people went into the classroom. Zeng Lingjun called Mr. Miao to come out and took him to the classroom. The centre of the classroom was empty, the desks and chairs were used to block the windows. There were four electric batons on the table, and one of them was still charging.

After the inmates had left the room, Zeng Lingjun grabbed Mr. Miao's collar and punched him on the chest for some time. Mr. Miao knelt down on the floor in pain. Fan Xiaodong kicked Mr. Miao from behind and Mr. Miao fell to the floor. Then many guards came up and started kicking him together. Mr. Miao was rolling on the floor in pain, and his shirt was soaked with sweat. When the guards got tired, they sat down, smoking, laughing and insulting Mr. Miao verbally.

After the guards rested, Fan Xiaodong pulled Mr. Miao off the floor. Fan Xiaodong took off Mr. Miao's clothing except for his underpants. Zeng Lingjun took two electric batons, gave one to Fan Xiaodong and said, "Shock him." The two electric batons were sparking blue on Mr. Miao's body.

Zeng Lingjun held an electric baton over Mr. Miao's heart, shocking him nonstop. Mr. Miao's chest muscles were twitching from the electricity. Fan Xiaodong kept moving an electric baton up and down Mr. Miao's back and neck. Two guards saw Mr. Miao using his arms to cover his chest, so they went to hold his arms and shock his underarms.

Mr. Miao was completely unable to do anything to protect himself. Zeng Lingjun continually shocked Mr. Miao's face, lips and heart. Fan Xiaodong was shocking Mr. Miao on the back of his ears and back nonstop, the other two guards were shocking his underarms and chest. The torture continued until the electric batons were out of electricity. Mr. Miao almost had no body hair left on him, and the whole room smelled like burnt hair.

The prison guards laughed and started smoking again. Later, Zeng Lingjun went up to Mr. Miao, and asked whether he was "transformed" or not. Mr. Miao did not say anything. Zeng Lingjun screamed, "Talk!" Mr. Miao was breathing heavily and said, "I can't breathe." The guards started laughing. Zeng Lingjun used his right fist to punch the left side of Mr. Miao's for a while, then he used his left fist to punch Mr. Miao on the right side of his face, alternating his hands. Zeng Lingjun did not stop until his hands started to hurt. He yelled, "This guy has hard bones, give me some gloves." The others gave him a pair of leather gloves. Zeng Lingjun continued with the punching until he said his hands hurt. He declared that he would buy a pair of boxing gloves later, because this guy's bones were too hard. The beating from Zeng Lingjun deformed Mr. Miao's face, Mr. Miao's facial muscles were torn. After the wounds had healed, the muscle did not recover, causing Mr. Miao's face to sag.

Zeng Lingjun backed off, and Fan Xiaodong came up and pinned Mr. Miao's neck down. He stepped on Mr. Miao's right toes and smashed them. Mr. Miao's middle nail toe was bleeding. Eventually it turned black, and took several months to heal.

This torture continued for more than four hours. They did not call the inmates to drag Mr. Miao back to his cell until after midnight. During this inhuman torture, Instructor Gao of the Suihua Force Labour Camp was there watching. Even though he was not physically involved, he was a co-conspirator and supporter.

Five days later, Mr. Miao was in extreme pain all over his body. He could barely breathe or open his mouth. Under the circumstances, Mr. Miao was unable to eat and drink. The prison guard made him stand against the wall for a whole day. The inmate told Mr. Miao, "Your face looks like an eggplant, purple and shiny."

From the sixth to the ninth day, Mr. Miao was still standing against the wall, and still could not eat.

On the tenth day, Mr. Miao was transferred to Squad 2 in Group 4. After a few months, he was transferred to Squad 1. While in Squad 1, he went through even more brutal tortures carried out by Assistant Group Leader Diao Xuesong.

The brutal torture which Mr. Miao endured for ten days at Suihua Forced Labour Camp was not an isolated incident. In April 2004, a Falun Gong practitioner was transferred from Daqing Forced Labour Camp. This practitioner went on hunger strike to protest, and was sent to Squad 3 on the first floor, where Zeng Lingjun was the squad leader at the time. The practitioner was force-fed every day. In the beginning, the inmates took the practitioner by the arms to the clinic. When he came back, his face and clothing were covered with fresh blood and he was dragged back. After a few days, the practitioner was carried to the clinic. When he came back, he was pulled by the legs, his head dragging on the floor. The practitioner struggled to hold up his neck to protect his head from the concrete floor.
