Ms. Sun Yajun, 60 years old, is a retired teacher from Jiutai City Vocational High School in Jilin Province. She was detained twice after the communist regime launched the persecution of Falun Gong more than ten years ago. Ms. Sun's employers fined her and sent her to a mental hospital, where she was forced to take unknown drugs.
Ms. Sun planned to travel to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in June 2000. Local police captured her and took her to a detention center. They coerced her to sign a statement declaring that she would not go to Beijing. A relative signed for her when she refused, and she was released three days later.
In 2003, head of Jiutai City Education Bureau Zhou Jian and officials from Ms. Sun's school called her to go to work to write a guarantee statement to not to practise Falun Gong. She refused. The next day, they went to her home to try to coerce her to sign.
The principal of Ms. Sun's school attempted to coerce Ms. Sun to sign a guarantee statement in 2004. Ms. Sun did not cooperate, so he signed for her.
Ms. Sun was talking to people about the goodness of Falun Gong on Sidao Street in Jiutai at 5:00 p.m. on July 11th, 2009. Several police officers arrested her and took her to the Yingcheng Police Station, where she was searched and interrogated.
Following that incident, Ms. Sun was sent to the Domestic Security Team and interrogated. Officer Jiao Long pushed her and held her head down, and Li Dahai put her in handcuffs. Around 9:00 p.m., five police officers took Ms. Sun's keys and broke in and ransacked her home. An officer from the Tuanjie Road Police Station was in charge at the time. They took away a mobile phone, an MP3 player, an MP4 player, a tape recorder, 100 yuan1 in cash, a notebook of phone numbers of local contacts, a set of Falun Gong lecture tapes, Falun Gong books, and a purse containing more than 200 yuan cash. They left the home a mess.
The police then transferred Ms. Sun to the Majiagangzi Detention Centre. Seven days later, she was sent to Gongzhuling Mental Hospital. While there she was forced to take unknown drugs that caused her to experience a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and fear of walking. When she was released eleven days later, she felt a noticeable decline in memory and slowness in response. She recovered only several months later. Since her return home, her family has had even more money extorted from them, the exact amount unknown.
