Mr. Zhang Qingjun, 61, Tortured to Death at the Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Qingjun was subjected to one year of forced labour at the Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp in Jiutai as of October 22nd. Eight days later, Mr. Zhang's family received a phone call from the labour camp, the morning of October 30th, informing them that Mr. Zhang had died from a heart attack. Mr. Zhang's family then went to the labour camp.

Mr. Zhang was arrested at home on September 10th and was immediately taken to a brainwashing facility. He was sent to the Anshan Detention Centre on September 19th and given a one-year forced labour sentence. The persecutors sent him to the Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp on October 22nd. He died within eight days.

Mr. Zhang and his wife Ms. Zhang Shuhua had suffered from many illnesses and were unable to work. They fortunately started practising Falun Gong and strictly conducted themselves according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Since the onset of the Chinese Communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, the couple was frequently subjected to arrest and detention. They were each subjected to forced labour in 2001 and 2005, and were physically abused and tortured. Since their release from the labour camp, they were subjected to many more arrests, home ransackings, and incarceration at brainwashing facilities.

Officer Jin Minghe from the Shixian Town Police Station led a neighbourhood police officer and a female officer to Mr. Zhang's home on April 23rd, 2008 and demanded to speak with the couple, duping them "to have a meeting." They took Mr. Zhang and his wife to the Shixian Town Police Station. Officer Jin Minghe and two others returned to Mr. Zhang's home at 6:00 p.m. and ransacked it. They found an MP3 player and returned to the police station, demanding to know where Mr. Zhang had obtained it.

Tumen City Domestic Security Division agents Wang Yuancheng, Quan Yongzhe and others happened to be in the police station. Quan Yongzhe slapped Mr. Zhang's face and kicked him and other arrested elderly practitioners for more than an hour, until he exhausted himself. Quan then continued to verbally abuse them.

Mr. Zhang and his wife were then taken to the Anshan Detention Centre and held for 15 days. The couple was released on May 9th, 2008.

The morning of September 10th Mr. Zhang was ready to go to work. Two officers from the Shixian Town Police Station deceived him into going to his wife Ms. Zhang's place of employment. Once there, the persecutors took both of them to a brainwashing facility, located at the Songlin Nursing Home. Dozens of agents from Tumen City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), from the Domestic Security Division, from the Political and Judiciary Committee and the police station and Neighbourhood Committee unsuccessfully attempted to force Mr. Zhang to give up his belief. Ten days later they took Mr. Zhang to the Anshan Detention Centre. The officials there forbade Mr. Zhang's family to visit him.
