Mr. Liu Guangdi, in his sixties, from Sichuan Province, was arrested in the lead-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was later sentenced to one year of forced labour where he suffered unspeakable torture, including being force-fed several unknown drugs. As a result, he passed away on September 25th, 2010.
As the director of the Power Division of Sichuan Province Energy Co., Ltd., Mr. Liu received numerous provincial scientific invention awards and state patents. He also served as a committee member of Leshan City People's Political Consultative Conference. He was not only esteemed by the masses, but also trusted by his superiors.
In April 2008, he was arrested after someone reported him to the authorities while he was distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. He was later sentenced to one year at the Xishanping Forced Labour Camp in Chongqing City, where he was severely tortured and was forced to do heavy labour.
As a result, he suffered from the symptoms of pleurisy, dropsy of the chest, and diabetes. Only after repeated demands from Mr. Liu's family, did the prison officials finally agree to allow Mr. Liu to be taken to the labour camp's hospital.
While being confined to his hospital ward, Mr. Liu practised the five Falun Gong exercises every day. It wasn't long before his condition greatly improved. The person assigned to monitor him told the prison guards that Mr. Liu refused to stop practising the exercises. The guards then persuaded the hospital staff to force-feed Mr. Liu harmful, unknown drugs. His condition deteriorated rapidly.
When Mr. Liu was finally released in April 2009, he was in critical condition and very weak. He passed away on September 25th.
