Mr. Wang Xiaojian, a resident of Xiling District in Yichang City, was arrested on November 12th, 2010 by officers from the Xiling District Domestic Security Division and the Yaowan Police Station in Yichang City, Hubei Province. The Xiling District Procuratorate is working on prosecuting him.
Mr. Wang, originally from Yunyang County of Sichuan Province, lives in Shahe Village, Yaowan Township, in Yichang City. He operates a farm-raised animal business. On November 12th, 2010, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials gave instructions to the census bureau staff conducting the the 2010 survey to enter Mr. Wang's home and look for Falun Gong materials. Mr. Wang's younger son, who is only six years old, inadvertently disclosed that there was a computer, a printer, and other things in the bedroom. Xiong Shuquan and Yang Xiao of the Xiling District Domestic Security Division, along with officers from the Yaowan Police Station, followed Mr. Wang Xiaojian to another practitioner, Mr. Wang Wenping's, home. The officers arrested the two practitioners on the grounds that they distributed Falun Gong materials. The police immediately searched Mr. Wang Xiaojian's home. They confiscated a computer, a printer, and Falun Gong books.
Mr. Wang Wenping has returned home, and Mr. Wang Xiaojian is being held at the Yichang City No. 1 Detention Centre. The Xiling District Procuratorate is working on prosecuting his case.
According to sources within the Yichang City Police Department, many staff members in the city's police system, procuratorate, and court system are reluctant to engage in the persecution of Falun Gong. Those who work in this system and have become aware of the facts surrounding Falun Gong are afraid that they will be held responsible in the future for these illegal acts. They hope that telephone calls from overseas will give them some leverage in processing cases in favour of Falun Gong practitioners.
