Bajiazi is a small town in Helong City in Jilin Province. The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in this place has consistently been very cruel. At present, there are still eight practitioners who are detained in prisons, forced labour camps and detention centres. In 2011, the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the Legal Committee issued an online warrant for the arrest of practitioners, including Ms. Cui Yanling.

Ms. Cui was the head of the accounting department in the Asbestos Cement Manufacturing Company. Before she practised Falun Gong in 1998, she had many physical ailments including an inflamed heart and severe cervical spondylosis (degradation of the cervical spine), which directly affected her work and life. After Ms. Cui began to practise Falun Gong, all her illnesses disappeared. Her outlook on life was completely changed, and her moral standard improved as well.

In July 1999, the Chinese Communist Party, under the leadership of Jiang Zemin, started to persecute Falun Gong. Ms. Cui went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in March 2000. She was arrested in front of the Appeals Office by Wang Chunli and Zhao Zhekui from the Bajiazi Public Security Bureau, and was held in a detention centre in Helong City for 15 days. The police extorted 5,000 yuan1 from her family and didn't give them a receipt.

In 2001, Wang Jiahui and Duan Aijun went to Ms. Cui's workplace and arrested her for providing other practitioners with copies of Master Li's lectures. They detained her in a local detention centre for 15 days. Then, Liu Xueyan and Duan Aijun, led by the deputy police chief Jin Shengguan, ransacked her house.

More than 40 practitioners were arrested in the area in May 2006. On May 11th, police from the Helong Public Security Bureau went to Ms. Cui's home to arrest her. She was not there at that time, and they stole her computer.

In 2006, police from the National Security Bureau of Helong went to harass Ms. Cui's 16-year-old daughter in Yanji City, who was in school. They took her out of the classroom and forced her to take them to her residence in an attempt to arrest Ms. Cui. However, Ms. Cui was not home at that time. The State Security Chief of the Bajiazi Public Security Bureau, Zhu Jicheng, and Hu Shengli went to their house to harass them repeatedly.

In 2007, Wang Jiahui colluded with others in Yanji in an attempt to arrest Ms. Cui. Under the guise of “checking household registration,” they went to Ms. Cui's house twice and harassed her. They also blocked and guarded nearby street crossings.

In July 2010, police from the Bajiazi Public Security Bureau went to Ms. Cui's relatives in Yanji City to harass them.

Eight practitioners are still being held in Bajiazi. Liu Jun and Zhong Weijun were sentenced to four and a half years in prison. Pang Fengxian was sentenced to three and a half years. Li Longchun and Wang Weiping are still being detained in Helong Detention Centre. Liu Yubo, Li Yinghua and Wang Yanchun were sent to a forced labour camp. In 2006, because Wang Yanchun refused to be “transformed” in the Yadong Reservoir Brainwashing Centre, she was transferred to the Changchun Brainwashing Centre. She again refused to be “transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] there as well. Soon after, she was released, Ms. Cui Yanling was again taken away from home by Wang Jiahui from the Bajiazi State Security Bureau.

On November 12th, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., personnel from the Bajiazi Public Security Bureau (including Zhao Zhekui, Wang, Jiahui, Liu Xueyan, and Hao) along with the community director, Di Xiumei, intruded into practitioner Ms. Wu Jiying's house without showing any identification, and confiscated all of her Falun Gong-related books and materials. The purpose of the raid was to arrest more practitioners to be sent to the Yanji Brainwashing Centre. Ms. Wu was forced to leave home and become homeless in order to avoid further persecution. At present, other practitioners in the area are still being harassed in their homes by Public Security Bureau personnel.
