“My mum is a good person. Don’t arrest her. I’m still young; I need her.” These were the words Yang Yang, a ten-year-old boy, said with tears in his eyes as he watched his mother, Ms. Sun Yuhua, being arrested and taken away by officers from the Tongerbao Police Department of Liaoyang City.
Yang Yang's family were true to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and wanted to be a good person, she was viciously persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In 2001, she had to leave her home for a time to avoid arrest. During that period, Yang Yang rarely saw her.
In June 2002, Ms. Sun was arrested by officers from the Tongerbao Police Department of Liaoyang City and was severely tortured. But she still firmly believed in Falun Gong and resisted the persecution. She was detained until she was in critical condition. When his mother returned home, Yang Yang was relieved that he finally had his mother again. He assumed that she would not leave him anymore.
Four months later, however, officers from the Tongerbao Police Department broke into Yang Yang’s home and arrested his mother again, although Ms. Sun hadn’t yet fully recovered. Yang Yang begged the police to leave his mother alone. They did not pay any attention to him and carried Ms. Sun into a police car by force, leaving behind an empty room, a broken lock, and a door that wouldn’t close anymore. Worse yet, this parting was Yang Yang and his mother's final farewell.
In March 2003, Ms. Sun was sentenced to four years of imprisonment and sent to Group 2 of Section 2 in Liaoning Province Women’s Prison. Wang Xiuhong, head of Section 2; Chen Xuena, head of the Group 2 and guards severely abused Ms. Sun, beating her to death on April 11th, 2003. Ms. Sun’s body was covered with wounds caused by severe blows and electric shocks. There was black gore in Ms. Sun’s mouth, and she passed away with her eyes open.
These incidents deeply traumatised Yang Yang. After that, Yang Yang was frightened whenever he saw anyone in a police uniform, and ran away whenever he saw a police car.
Yang Yang’s father was persecuted twice because of his belief in Falun Gong. Yang Yang had to live with his grandfather and grandmother (who suffered from dementia). In 2010, Yang Yang’s grandfather passed away, leaving him alone with his grandmother. Yang Yang took care of his grandmother. His slightly pale face showed signs of premature ageing rarely seen among those his age.
Yang Yang was very thoughtful and often cared for and helped others. However, due to the physical and mental traumas, Yang Yang’s health was not good and he often had to be admitted to the hospital.
On one occasion, Yang Yang received a video that explained the facts about Falun Gong. Yang Yang knew that Falun Gong teaches people to be good and to follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He also yearned for Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, so he carefully watched the video. However, his neighbour found it and reported Yang Yang to the police. Yang Yang was subsequently harassed by officers from the Jiefanglu Police Station of the Tiedong Police Department in Anshan City. They took him to the police station and interrogated him, wanting to know where he got the video. They also went to Yang Yang’s school and interrogated his teachers and classmates. This frightened Yang Yang and he discontinued his studies.
Falun Gong has been embraced in over 100 countries and areas, but it is being persecuted in China by the CCP. In today’s China, it is hard to be a good person and even much harder to believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The CCP has persecuted Falun Gong practitioners for nearly 13 years. Under this reign of terror, it is hard to know just how many families have been persecuted and suffered severe tribulations, and how many children have lost their parents!
At the Chinese New Year, Yang Yang’s biggest wish is to be with his parents, to have a warm and caring family and a happy childhood, and to return to school.
