The Persecution of Ms. He Lihua

During the past twelve years of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. He Lihua was held in prison for nine years. She was extremely thin and weak when she was released on April 15th, 2010. Thirty days later, she and her husband died from a natural gas accident. They left behind a daughter who was going to take a college entrance examination.

Ms. He Lihua went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000. She was arrested and was held in Sabei, Sa'ertu District, Daqing, for two weeks. She was arrested again on March 15th, 2001, and was sent to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre. She initiated a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Ms. He was subjected to gross abuse resulting in her becoming emaciated, incontinent, and unable to eat or drink. She was released one year later. A group of people led by Chen Guiqing, the head of the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre went to her home several times to harass her.

Ms. He Lihua was arrested at her sister's house by officers from the Taikang County Police Department on April 23rd, 2002. She was sentenced to three years of forced labour and was taken to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre. She suffered both physically and mentally and nothing she ate would stay down. She was later released on a medical parole.

Ms. He Lihua was arrested while she was explaining the truth about Falun Gong to people in the Longfeng District Supermarket on the morning of April 15th, 2005. She was taken to the Daqing Detention Centre and her home was ransacked. She began a two-month-long hunger strike to protest the persecution. She suffered brutal force-feeding and was tortured with the “iron chair”. She was abused to the point of incontinence. The Ranghulu District Court in Daqing tried Ms. He twice - on August 11th, and on October 13th, 2005. No judgment was publicly pronounced for either trial. It was said that the court authorities secretly sentenced Ms. He to a five-year term. During the October 13th, 2005, trial, Ms. He shouted during court, "Falun Gong is great! Falun Gong is righteous! I've done nothing wrong in practising Falun Gong!" The chief justice then angrily deprived her of all her rights to defend herself by forcibly removing her from the court. On her way out, Ms. He turned to her 70-year-old mother who sat in the public gallery crying, "Mum, your daughter didn't do anything wrong!"

Ms. He Lihua was later sent to the Heilongjiang Women's Prison.

In June 2006, the guard Tao Shuping, instigated inmates Xiao Lihua, Zhang Jing, Wang Dan, and others to torture Ms. He Lihua. They deprived her of sleep, had her stand up and sit on small stools. They also tried to force her to read books and watch video programmes that slander Falun Gong. Ms. He went on a one-week-long hunger strike to protest the persecution. Tao Shuping ordered others to force-feed Ms. He. Starting on December 18th, 2006, Tao Shuping ordered these inmates to handcuff Ms. He's hands behind her back, and then they tied her to a metal bed and deprived her of sleep for more than 20 days. Ms. He was only allowed to sleep for one and a half hours during those days. They also attempted to force her to renounce Falun Gong. Ms. He was later carried by other inmates and moved out of the ninth ward.

Ms. He Lihua was having her period and when she went to use the toilet, the monitor did not untie the rope that bound her hands behind her back. Blood stained her trousers and as a result the monitor swore at her and slapped her face. Some time later she suffered a mental collapse and was taken to the hospital. She was later taken to the "Intensive Assault Division" in an attempt to force her to renounce Falun Gong.
Ms. He was on the brink of death and became emaciated. She was released on April 15th, 2010, after she finished the five-year term. Ou Aihua, the party secretary of the transportation team, Sales Division of the Daqing Oil Field Water Company, picked her up from the prison and detained her at the transportation team apartment for one night. Ms. He was allowed to go back home the next day.

In order to make a living, Ms. He had to go to work even though she was weak. She only got to stay with her family for 30 days. She and her husband died from a natural gas accident on May 16th, 2010.

Ms. He started practising Falun Gong at the end of 1997. Before that she had suffered from many illnesses, including rheumatoid arthritis. After practising Falun Gong for a period of time, she became physically healthy and all her illnesses disappeared. She conducted herself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and became a better person. She was also respected and admired for her diligence and kindness at work.
