Summary of the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Chenzui County, Wuqing District, Tianjin

The following is a summary of the persecution and harassment of some practitioners from Chenzui County, Wuqing District, Tianjin.

1. Ms. Zhang Yan is in her sixties. Prior to the 2008 Olympic Games, she was detained at the Chenzui Police Station overnight and then monitored, intimidated, and harassed around the clock. She was forced into homelessness to avoid further persecution.

2. Mr. Gao Jinsuo was arrested on May 1st, 2001 and detained for a month. Shortly after, he was sentenced to a three-year prison term, to be served at Liyuantou Prison in Tianjin.

3. Mr. Xiao Xiyue was held at the Chenzui Police Station for a day and a half in August 1999. In February 2000, he was detained for a month. On May 1st, 2001, he was arrested and soon after sentenced to a six-year prison term at Liyuantou Prison. After he was released in May 2007, officers from the Chenzui Police Station harassed him. During the 2008 Olympic Games, Mr. Xiao and his son Chen Xiao Tonghua were taken to the Chenzui Police Station and held for one day.

4. Ms. Jiang Xuemin, the wife of Mr. Xiao Xiyue, was arrested on May 1st, 2001 and detained at the Wuqing Detention Centre for a month. Despite having to take care of two young children, the police continued to harass her. She suffered a stroke in 2007, and can no longer take care of herself.

5. Mr. Pang Hongqi has been detained in a detention centre three times, each time for one month. In May 2001, Mr. Pang was sentenced to a six-year prison term at Liyuantou Prison.

6. Mr. Shi Mushan was arrested on August 14th, 2000 and detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre for a month. He was later sentenced to a six-year prison term and held at Liyuantou Prison.

7. Ms. Dang Dexia, the wife of Mr. Shi Mushan, was detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre for one month in February 2000. On August 14th, 2000, Ms. Dang and her husband were arrested and detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre again for one month. Shortly after, she was sentenced to a five-year prison term.

8. Ms. Zhang Yuzhen was arrested on August 14th, 2000 and detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre for about a month. On August 16th, 2003, she was arrested again and held in the Banqiao Women's Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin for one year and nine months.

9. Ms. Yu Rongxiang was arrested by officers from the Chenzui Police Station in August 1999 and held for a day and a half. In February 2000, she was detained for a month. In May 2001, she was detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre for a month. In April 2003, she was again detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre for a month and then taken to the Banqiao Women’s Forced Labour Camp. She was released in November 2005, after serving two years and six months.

10. Ms. Chen Guizhi was arrested on August 14th, 2000 and detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre for a month. Soon after, she was taken to the Banqiao Women’s Forced Labour Camp, where she was held for one year.

11. Ms. Zhang Yulan was detained in the Wuqing Detention Centre for 15 days in March 2000. On April 25th, 2004, officers from the Huangzhuang Police Station arrested her and took her to a detention centre where she was held for fifteen days. In April 2005, officers from the Chenzui Police Station took her to the Wuqing Detention Centre, where she was held for fifteen days.

12. Ms. Huang Sixiu was reported to police by a villager who was misled by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda about Falun Gong in the spring of 2007. Officers from the Chenzui Police Station ransacked her home and then took her to the police station. They extorted 500 yuan1 from her family and then took her to the Wuqing Detention Centre, where they held her for seven days.

13. Ms. Huang Lixin is the sister of Ms. Huang Sixiu. After Ms. Huang Sixiu was framed by the villager mentioned above, Ms. Huang Lixin went to the Chenzui Police Station to explain her sister's situation to the police. They arrested her with the charge of “Interfering with public affairs.”

The police extorted another 500 yuan from her family before releasing her. On July 16th, 1999, she was arrested and held for two days. She was released on July 19th, but police arrested her again the same evening and imprisoned her for fifteen days.
