Several Falun Gong Practitioners Given Harsh Sentences by the Wuling District Court in Changde City, Hunan Province

Several Falun Gong practitioners were sentenced by the Wuling District Court in Changde City,on November 4th, 2010. They were Ms. Liu Xianju, sentence of 10 years; Ms. Li Fangyun, 9.5 years; Mr. Wang Xiaohui, 9 years; Mr. Li Haijun, 8.5 years; Mr. Liu Huiping, 7.5 years; Ms. Zeng Lihua, 7 years; Mr. Man Sanqing, 5 years; Ms. Chen Lingci, 3 years. The court didn't even bother to get signatures from those who were sentenced, and the "verdicts" were casually handed out when the trial ended. The practitioners asked that their cases be retried. The Wuling District Court set the new trial date for March 30th, 2011.

Some time during the trial, elderly practitioner Ms. Liu Xianju suddenly suffered serious convulsions, foaming at the mouth. Then she and another ill and elderly practitioner, Ms. Li Fangyun, were taken to a hospital. After they left, the trial continued and the five other practitioners were given exactly the same sentences as the last trial. They are currently being held in the First and Second Detention Centres in Changde City, and a detention centre in the Dingcheng District.

Later, Ms. Liu Xianju and Ms. Li Fangyun were taken from the hospital to the First Detention Centre in Changde City. The court is currently preparing another trial for the two ladies, as well as one other practitioner, Mr. Fan Congrong. Mr. Fan, 41, is employed with the Pingan Insurance Company in Changde. He was arrested directly from his work unit by officers with the Chengdong Police Station in Changde City on December 6th, 2010.

In December 2009, more than 30 practitioners were arrested, including Ms. Liu Xianju, Mr. Wang Xiaohui, Mr. Li Haijun, Ms. Liu Huiping, Ms. Li Fangyun, Ms. Chen Lingci, Ms. Zeng Lihua, and Mr. Mang Sanqing. The arrests were carried out by officers Huang Junhua, Wang Yongkang, Wu Xiyong of State Security Brigade of Public Security Bureau of Changde City, and other officers from police stations in the Wuling District. All the practitioners were held and persecuted in detention centres in Changde City.
