Former Second Prize Winner of the National Youth Erhu Music Competition Sentenced to Over Eight Years in Prison

On June 24th, Mr. Jin Yuan was sentenced at Zhuhai City Xiangzhou District Court to eight and a half years in prison. Mr. Jin was a performer in the Anhui Province Song and Dance Troupe, and lives in Zhuhai.

Previously, at around 8:00 a.m. on November 10th, 2010, two Xiangzhou Domestic Security agents from the Zhuhai Public Security Department ransacked his home and arrested him. The agents, Lai Haizhong and Ju Xuecan, searched his home until the afternoon, and confiscated his personal chequebook, among other things. Mr. Jin was then detained in the Zhuhai Number Two Detention Centre before being sentenced.

Mr. Jin had won second prize at the National Youth Erhu Music Competition. He began to practise Falun Gong in 1998.
