Ms. Fu Meilin was arrested by officers Zhang Hu, Wu Ge, and others, while walking on a street on May 26th. She was taken to the Hongsheng Police Station in Yichun. The officers slapped her face, put her on a Tiger Bench1 and violently stretched her fingers. She was later transferred to the Wumahe Detention Centre where she began a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Two weeks later, she was taken to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp. The camp authorities refused to admit her because she could not pass the physical.
The following is her account of the persecution that she suffered:
I was walking on the street on May 26th when a police car suddenly stopped by my side. Several police officers jumped out of the car and grabbed the pamphlets on Falun Gong that I had. They then pushed and pulled me, forcing me into the car. One officer was afraid that I would run, so he held onto me. My clothes were pulled open and my stomach was exposed.
I was taken to the Hongsheng Police Station in Yichun. The police locked me in a metal cage and searched my body. They also threatened to strip me naked. They took my picture without my permission. They asked for my name and I refused to answer. When I asked for their names, they didn't tell me either. They slandered Falun Gong. I told them to stop. They then swore at me and insulted me with dirty words. I said seriously, “You're slandering groundlessly. You illegally arrested me. Karmic retribution is a law of universe. You will bring harm to yourselves.” Officer Wu Ge said viciously, “I'm violating the law and going to kill you first.”
They took me to another interrogation room. I shouted “Falun Gong is good!” on the way. One guard wrapped a towel around my mouth. In the interrogation room, they strapped me onto a tiger bench, with my hands and legs cuffed. Two officers took turns slapping my face and it made me see stars. Later on, they pulled my fingers.
One officer said, “Killing you shall be counted as suicide.” I said, “Three practitioners were tortured to death in Jiamusi Prison. Two were from Yichun, one was from Jiamusi. Their families are filing charges against them. Are their deaths nothing? More families are filing charges.”
One officer who beat me said, “Do you know our names? How are you going to file charges?” One officer who interrogated me called Zhang Hu, the head of the 610 Office(an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), and he slapped my face twice in the police car.
I was taken to Yichun City Hospital to have a medical exam. I said, “Take my blood pressure.” The doctor asked the guard, “Can we take her blood pressure?” Zhang Hu said, “No.” They didn't give me any medical exam and took me to the Wumahe Detention Centre. I saw the officers' signatures on the detention permit: Hu Haiyang and Chen Gang.
I started a hunger strike in the detention centre. Two weeks later, they took me to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Forced Labour Camp. The camp authorities refused to admit me because I did not pass the physical. Officer Zhang Hu extorted more than 2,500 yuan2 from my family and confiscated the Falun Gong books from my home.
Note
1. "Tiger Bench": Prisoners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead without movement for long periods of time.
2. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
