Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Ruihua from Dagang District, Tianjin City was arrested by police on February 26th, 2011, and later taken to a forced labour camp. Her family members went to the Banqiao Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin to visit her. Ms. Wang told her family that officers from the Shengli Police Station beat her, ransacked her home, seized her property, and attempted to sexually assault her. Ms. Wang’s family has filed a complaint at the police station.
Ms. Wang, 41, and her husband, along with other Falun Gong practitioners, were arrested on February 26th by police from the Shengli Police Station while they were putting up posters with information about Falun Gong and the persecution. At the police station, the police attempted to force Ms. Wang to renounce Falun Gong, but she refused. Three male officers took her to a separate room. Officer Wang Conghe beat her and used a baton to hit her until it was broken. Officer Wang then tried to pull her trousers off and rape her, but he finally gave up because she struggled as much as she could. The other two officers stood by during the whole process. A supervisor stood behind the door and peaked through it but did not intervene either.
The incident deeply distressed Ms. Wang, and traumatized her. Only until recently was she calm enough to tell her family members what had happened and asked them to seek justice for her.
Her family was very upset, and they wrote to the Internal Affair's Office of the Dagan Police Sub-Bureau and other related offices. They went to the Shengli Police Station and presented their letter directly to Chief Deputy Zhang Guomin. They protested to Zhang about the atrocities of the police, and requested that he check the records to find the people who were on duty February 26th. They asked to be shown the names and photos of the officers so that Ms. Wang could identify the perpetrators. They requested that the officers be punished and Ms. Wang be given compensation.
Under the family members’ compelling argument and strong demand, Zhang promised to investigate. However, after learning that Ms. Wang was still in their custody, he wanted to wait until she was released.
It is obvious that Zhang Guomin is using delaying tactics. According to Ms. Wang, Zhang Guomin was on duty the night she was taken to the police station. He should be very aware of what happened and should know the identity of the supervisor who hid behind the door. The family is anxiously awaiting the results.
