Ms. Qiu Yuxia was arrested on July 2nd, 2008 and incarcerated for three years. During the incarceration, she was forced to do hard labour, was shackled to ground rings and handcuffed to a bed for two weeks. She was released on July 1st, 2011. The following is Ms. Qiu's account of part of the persecution she endured.

Experiences a New Life After Practising Falun Gong

My name is Qiu Yuxia. Prior to practising Falun Gong, I suffered from numerous illnesses, including gastric ulcer, rheumatism and gynaecological disease. Medical treatment didn't help at all and I lived in pain and depression. When I started practising Falun Gong, all my illnesses disappeared and I became happy and full of hope.

Shackled to Ground Rings and Force-Fed Drugs in Jiamusi Detention Centre

I was arrested by officers Chen Wanyou and Liu Yan from the Jiamusi 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in July 2008 and taken to the Jiamusi Detention Centre that night. I was forced to do hard labour in the detention centre. A few days later, I developed high blood pressure and it reached 180 – 190 mmHg. The detention centre doctor, Yang, told me to take drugs and I refused. Yang said, “I told you to take it and you have to take it.” He and guard Li Fu ordered several male inmates to force-feed me the drugs. They pushed me against a bed with my head hanging over the edge. Some held my head, some pushed my arms and legs down. Yang pinched my mouth and poured drug into my mouth. Then Li Fu poured water into my mouth. One of my teeth was broken off by Yang. I almost suffocated.

Deputy director Yu led several guards and shackled me to ground rings with all four limbs stretched out. They then forcibly gave me injections and force fed me with drugs, despite my resistance. My blood pressure was getting higher and I was in a critical condition.

Handcuffed to a Bed for Two Weeks

I was transferred to Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison on the morning of December 10th, 2008, and held in the 11th Ward. The 9th Ward and 11th Ward are the “enhanced management” wards. In order to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] practitioners, guards use brutal means to persecute them. I was forced to wear the prison uniform with a yellow singlet over it. When I refused to do so, all the inmates came up and pulled my arms to forcibly put it on me.

Guard Wang Yali instigated inmate Sun Xuejuan to make me sit on a small stool. I refused to do so and insisted on sitting on my bed. Inmate Tang Jinxia madly pulled me over and pushed me onto the small stool, but I returned to my bed afterward. They pulled me again and after several rounds, I was suffering from a headache. They measured my blood pressure and it was as high as 190 mmHg. They had me listen to the deviant theories stated by people who had been “transformed” and forced me to watch videos that slander Falun Gong. If I refused to listen, Sun Xuejuan would beat me and curse me.

My family came to visit me in January 2009. I had high blood pressure and needed help walking at the time. Guard Wang Linhe created many hardships for me to see my family.

I was transferred to the 12th Ward in March 2009. Inmate Liu Yang would report me to guard Yang Libin whenever I did the Falun Gong exercises. Yang said to me, “I have the handcuffs ready. I will handcuff you once you do the exercises.” Guard Geng Xiuli said angrily, “You can do anything you want, but not the Falun Gong exercises. You'd better give up.” They then ordered Liu Yang to monitor all my movements after that.

I did the exercises in May 2010 and Liu reported it to guard Geng Xiuli. Geng and chief Yue Xiufeng sent me to solitary confinement. The guard of the solitary cell refused to admit me because of my high blood pressure. Back at the ward, Geng, Yue and Liu handcuffed me to a bed for two weeks. When my blood pressure was high, Liu and about eight inmates pushed me down and force-fed me with drugs.

I was released on July 1st, 2011. Three years of incarceration harmed me both physically and mentally. My limbs were numb and my head was swollen. It also brought great pain to my family.
