Falun Gong practitioner Xie Hanzhu has been sentenced in the Guangdong Province Third Prison (Meizhou Prison). Xia was put under strict control in mid-October of this year. His 81-year-old father and 76-year-old mother have not been allowed to see him.
Mr. Xie Hanzhu was born in 1962, and was the deputy chief of the Rural Area Energy Section of Mei County Bureau of Agriculture. He received many awards for achievements in his work. In 1999 after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the persecution of Falun Gong, Xie Hanzhu was expelled from his work unit under the orders of Mei County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) officials. Because he practised Falun Gong and did the exercises in public, he was sentenced to two years in prison and detained at the Sanshui Labour Camp in Guangdong province.
When Mr. Xie finished his sentence at the end of 2001, the Mei County 610 Office officials and police officers from the county public security bureau took him to the Mei County Fuda Detention Centre and brainwashing facility at the city police school without notifying his family. While there he was forced to recant his beliefs in Falun Gong. Xie Hanzhu was finally released on December 31st, 2002, after a hunger strike lasting nearly twenty days, which left him in a very weak condition.
On February 3rd, 2005, Meizhou area 610 Office officials arrested Mr. Xie again. After interrogation and physical torture, he was sentenced to twelve years in prison. He was transferred to the Meizhou prison, where he is now.
Xie Hanzhu has persisted in upholding his belief. In 2010, he asked his relative to appeal for justice, but his requests have been denied.
