  • Medical Doctor and Her Mother Arrested, Their Homes Ransacked

    On May 5th, Ms. Li, Junying, a medical doctor from Handan City, Hebei Province, was reported to the police while she was explaining the facts about Falun Gong. She was arrested and her home was ransacked. On the same night at around midnight, Ms. Li's mother, Ms. Wang Xiumei, was also arrested and her home ransacked without cause. Both mother and daughter are now detained at the Wei County Police Bureau.
  • Nurse Ms. Liang Xiulan Sentenced to an Eight-Year Prison Term

    On May 4th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liang Xiulan was taken to the Shijiazhuang Women's Prison. An attorney who had seen her in the detention centre said, "Although I am not related to her, I couldn't bear to look at her because she had been tortured in the detention centre. She looked so pitiful." During the past year, police officers from the Domestic Security Division arrested Ms. Liang Xiulan three times. She was brutal tortured and near death. On December 3rd, 2009, police and the court agreed to sentence Ms. Liang to an eight-year prison term.
  • Daughter About to Take College Entrance Exams When Mother Sent to Forced Labour

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wen Cuijua's daughter is preparing to take her college entrance exams in June. During this most critical time, all parents show great attention and solicitude to their children, with the hopes that they achieve good scores and enter an ideal university. Unfortunately however, on March 2nd, 2010, Ms. Wen was arrested by officers from the Domestic Security Division of Qianan City, and on March 4th, she was sent to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan City. She was arrested because she believed in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. During this most crucial time when Ms. Wen's daughter needs her mother the most, her mother was taken away from her.
  • Shantou City Court Clerk Mr. Xie Chunfeng Tortured

    Over the last 10 years, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xie Chunfeng has been repeatedly detained for refusing to give up his belief in Falun Gong. After the persecution began in July 1999, Mr. Xie went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. He was arrested for doing the sitting meditation in Tiananmen Square. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Xie was detained and tortured in a mental hospital. He was subsequently subjected to multiple arrests, brainwashing, several periods of long-term detention, torture, and forced labour.
  • Mr. Yang Jianjun Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison Following Forced Labour, Wife Also Imprisoned

    Mr. Yang Jianjun went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in 2000. However, he was arrested and sentenced to three years of forced labour at the Xuchang City Third Labour Camp. In January 2007, police officers stormed into his home in Xuchang City, assaulted him and arrested him again. He was sentenced to 18 months of forced labour at the Xuchang City Third Labour Camp. When his term ended in June 2008, Xuchang City 610 Office took him to the Linzhou City Detention Centre. In October 2008, Mr. Yang was sentenced by the Linzhou City Court to 10 years in prison. Mr. Yang's wife, also a Falun Gong practitioner, was also arrested in May 2008 and sentenced to three and a half years in the Xinxiang City Prison.
  • Ms. Wang Huilin from Tangshan City Persecuted and Put on Trial

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Huili persisted in her belief and explained the facts about Falun Gong and exposed the persecution to people. After sending her to one term of forced labour, the police arrested Ms. Wang once again in December 2009. She lost consciousness in the Fengnan Court during a trial on April 16th, 2010. Prior to this trial, Fengnan District Domestic Security Division agents tortured Ms. Wang. She was made to sit on a bench for extended periods, was placed in shackles, and brutally assaulted.
  • Mr. Yu Lianhe Persecuted in a Forced Labour Camp for the Third Time

    Before the persecution, our family of three practised Falun Gong. It brought enormous improvement in our health and mind. This was especially so for my wife, who completely regained her health after practising Falun Gong. However, everything collapsed after the Communist Party launched the persecution. My wife and I were both arrested. I was sent to a forced labour camp for a year. Following that, I was again apprehended and sent to a labour camp for two more years. Unable to bear the stress from the persecution and from supporting the family by herself, my wife gave up practising and filed for a divorce. Some locals who did not know the truth thought that it was my practice that destroyed my family.
  • The Tragic Death of 66-Year-Old Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Zhang Zhiyun

    Ms. Zhang Zhiyun was 66 years old in late April 2009. She had been very healthy. In order to attend her daughter's graduation ceremony abroad, she went to her local police station to apply for a passport. The person in charge of the 610 Office denied her application, stating that she was not a legal citizen. Ms. Zhang disputed this false notion, and the office personnel made her a cup of tea, which she drank. Soon after her visit to the 610 Office, she started vomiting blood. She soon died under suspicious circumstances.
  • Shot by the Police and Sent to Jail for 14 Years of Torture

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jiang Honglu was shot by policeman Meng Qingqi in Mishan City on February 12th, 2002. Mr. Jiang was sentenced to 14 years in prison and sent to Hada Prison in Jixi City in 2003 and in July of that year was transferred to Mudanjiang Prison. Mr. Jiang's muscles have atrophied, and he became very sick due to the long term torture. Now he cannot eat or sleep well, and is skin and bones. He cannot catch his breath when he walks. His family has been negotiating with the prison, but prison officials have been reluctant to talk and are refusing to release him.
  • Brutal Torture in the Judong Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Lu Yaqin was 56 years old in 2001. She was beaten and shocked by five or six male wardens with electric batons simultaneously for over two hours. The wardens kept asking her if she was a Falun Gong practitioner. She always answered "yes," and the wardens continued torturing her. At the end of the torture session, her left foot was paralysed and she was unable to stand under her own power. The beating caused a large blister full of blood on her forehead. When the blister broke, her face was covered with blood.
  • Ms. Xiao Peiying from Gaobeidian City Survives Repeated Persecution

    Ms. Xiao Peiying from Gaobeidian City, Hebei Province, has been persecuted repeatedly because she will not give up her right to practise Falun Gong. On June 26th, 2008, four or five policemen broke into Ms. Xiao's home. They broke two doors and searched the house. They confiscated mobile phones and Falun Gong items. She was taken to the police station. Police forced her to sign a declaration that she was not a Falun Gong practitioner and took her fingerprints for the police records. When they were torturing Ms. Xiao, they smashed her face, grabbed her hair, and broke her arms by hitting them against tables. They pressed her hands into the ink for her fingerprints. She was held in the detention centre for nine days and then was sent to the Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labour Camp. On the way she had ten kilo shackles on her.
  • Practitioner Xu Dawei Dies at Age 36 as a Result of Persecution; Sympathisers Investigated, Attorney Pressured

    Mr. Xu Dawei was sentenced to eight years in prison for refusing to give up his practice of Falun Gong. In prison, he was subjected to several methods of torture, including extended periods of handcuffing and shackling, savage beatings, hanging by the arms, force-feeding, being whipped with rubber tubes, being punctured with needles, and electric shock treatment. Mr. Xu died at the age of 36 on February 16th, 2009, merely 13 days after his release. In March 2010, 376 villagers from five villages jointly filed an appeal to the government on behalf of Mr. Xu. Mr. Xu's family hired an attorney to represent them, but the attorney was pressured by the Law Enforcement Bureau.
  • Ms. Zhang Zhaozhi Died in 2009 After Years of Persecution

    In 2001 Ms. Zhang was arrested by police and sentenced to 18 months of forced labour. was tortured while in the Banjiao Women's Forced Labour Camp. She was forced to stand still for hours, work overtime, and sit on a narrow bench in the same position for hours. Guards deprived her of sleep, and ordered two inmates to closely monitor her. She was not allowed to talk to anyone and if she did, she was beaten, kicked and verbally abused by the guards. Ms. Zhang Zhaozhi died in October 2009, after suffering years of persecution.
  • Mr. Tan Qiucheng in Critical Condition as a Result of Torture in Jilin Prison

    Since the end of October 2003, all the prison cells used for solitary confinement have been equipped with the cruel torture device known as the "stretching bed." Those Falun Gong practitioners with steadfast belief in the practice who refused to renounce their faith, such as Mr. Tan Qiucheng, have been subjected to the "stretching bed" torture method, which is known as the cruellest of all torture methods in Jilin Prison.
  • A Physician's Narrative of Her Persecution

    Ms. Tan Wei, a 35-year-old doctor from Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, started practising Falun Gong in 1996. At that time, she had a tumour in her ovaries and had become infertile. After two months of practice her tumour disappeared, and she even gave birth to a baby boy in 2002. In 2005 she was arrested by police and detained for 23 days. She was not allowed to sleep for long periods of time, denied the right to use the toilet, and injected with unknown drugs. To avoid persecution, she was forced to leave her hometown in November 2009.
