  • An Open Letter from Zhong Shufang, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Chengdu City

    My name is Zhong Shufang, and I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Chengdu City. My daughter Zhang Huayun, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner, disappeared more than two months ago when she was arrested by people from the Wangjiaguai Police Station in Chengdu City. I am worried about her, and I really can't accept the fact that she is severely persecuted just because she practises Falun Gong. I am writing this letter to the public to expose the evil deeds of the police under the Chinese Communist regime.
  • Ms. Li Juhua Suffering from Mental Disorder as a Result of Persecution

    On August 19th, 2009, Ms. Li Juhua was taken from her home by Hu Shuzhi, head of the Huangpi District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), and other officers. After being detained for nearly 50 days, Ms. Li was sent to a forced labour camp for an 18-month term. She suffered from a mental disorder in the forced labour camp. Due to her practice of Falun Gong, Ms. Li has been persecuted repeatedly over the past ten years. She was detained twice and sent to a forced labour camp three times. She lost her personal freedom for four years, her home was ransacked twice, and she and her family were under constant harassment by the authorities.
  • 60-Year-Old Mr. Lai Jiamiao Dies in Custody in the Shaoguan City Prison

    on November 27th, 2009, Mr. Lai Jiamiao's family received a call from Shaoguan City Prison, saying that Mr. Lai was very sick, but they did not ask the family to visit. The next day the prison authorities called again and said that Mr. Lai had died. Mr. Lai's family and their own personal business manager rushed to the prison on November 29th, a Saturday, and requested an autopsy. The prison administration refused to comply, saying, "No one works at weekends." Mr. Lai's relative condemned the prison for torturing him and for failing to notify his family of his condition sooner, which resulted in Mr. Lai's death in custody.
  • Mr. Lu Yunlai Dies Two Months after Release from Forced Labour Camp

    Mr. Lu Yunlai, 47, was arrested and sent to Baimiao Forced Labour Camp for a one-year term because he persisted in his Falun Gong practice. By the end of July 2009, Mr. Lu had developed fluid in his legs and abdomen (medical term: liver ascites), suffered an enlargement of his liver and spleen, had pulmonary tuberculosis and more. When Mr. Lu's family rushed to the labour camp, they learned that he had been checked into the hospital and diagnosed with late stage lung cancer. Lu Yunlai died on October 30th, 2009, two months after being released from Baimiao Forced Labour Camp.
  • Mr. Li Zhigang's Right to Appeal Denied by 610 Office and Harbin City Court

    On November 12th, 2009, the Harbin City Nangang District Court sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Zhigang to five years in prison. His family hired attorneys to represent him in court. However, the Nangang District Court and Detention Centre hindered the judicial process by rejecting the lawyers' requests to meet with Mr. Li. As a result, the lawyers have yet to obtain Mr. Li's signature, which is needed to appeal.
  • Daughter Arrested, and a Mother Overcome with Grief Passes Away

    The mother of Ms. Gao Huijie, a Falun Gong practitioner, passed away on October 22nd, 2009. She was 74. Ms. Gao was arrested on August 21st, 2005, and incarcerated in Liaoning Province Women' Prison. When she was brutally beaten and injured by thugs in the prison, and while she was in the hospital for surgery, she asked to see her mother, but her mother was never notified. Her mother never got the chance to see her daughter again before her death.
  • Mr. Sun Hongchang Crippled as a Result of Torture, Wife Beaten to Death, Father Dies of a Broken Heart

    Mr. Sun Hongchang was forced to leave his home in 2000 to avoid being arrested. After his wife was tortured to death in 2003, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police tried over and over to arrest Mr. Sun Hongchang. In 2006 he was detained in police custody and police used electric batons to shock Mr. Sun's genitals. They also used both hands to force one of Mr. Sun's legs above his head, a torture method called "splitting the hip." Mr. Sun became disabled as a result.
  • Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court Sentenced Mr. Song Aichang

    On June 22nd, 2007, Mr. Song Aichang was arrested at home by local police and has been held in a detention centre ever since. On September 22nd, 2008, after Mr. Song had been detained for over nine months, during the first trial, Qiaoxi District Court sentenced him to three years in prison. Mr. Song deemed it an unfair trial and an unfair sentence. He appealed to Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court, and two fair-minded attorneys represented him in court. However, Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court upheld the original three-year sentence, although it did not legally have jurisdiction in the case.
  • Ms. Liang Yu from Dalian City Tortured and Sent to Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Liang Yu was arrested and detained at the Dalian Detention Centre for further persecution. The brutal torture scarred her body all over. Soon after, she was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in a labour camp, and in mid-August transferred to the Masanjia Labour Camp in Shenyang City. Ms. Liang's parents are both in their seventies and eighties. Over the past three months, they have travelled a long way to see their daughter, only to be rejected by the prison police. The reason given them was that Ms. Liang Yu "refused to transform." [forcibly renounce Falun Gong].
  • Three Falun Gong Practitioners Are in Custody in the Sujiatun Detention Centre, Shenyang City

    On October 28th, 2009, Shenyang City practitioners Zhang Zhengang, Jin Xianzhong, and Hong Ruisheng were arrested by police while they were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong in Xinli Village. Now they are still being held in the Sujiatun Detention Centre. As we already know, the so-called "evidence" has already been turned in to the Institute of Legal Systems in Shenyang, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is trying to force them to "reform through labour" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] at a labour camp.
  • Mr. Sui Jingjiang Dies as a Result of Injections of Unknown Drugs Given in Changlinzi Men's Forced Labour Camp

    In May 2001, the police took Mr. Sui to the Changlinzi Men's Forced Labour Camp. Section Chief Hao Wei ordered him to get an injection for high blood pressure. Mr. Sui said that he felt fine and there was no need for an injection, but Hao insisted. Mr. Sui discovered there was no label on the "medicine" bottle, so he asked the medical worker why not and what kind of drug she was giving him. After the injections he felt miserable, almost like he was paralysed. His limbs turned purple and they did not work properly. In 2006 he was sent again to the labour camp and given another poisonous injection. This caused Mr. Sui to totally collapse. Mr. Sui died on November 26th, 2009.
  • Chinese Human Rights Lawyer Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for Defending Falun Gong Practitioners

    According to eyewitness accounts, on November 27th, 2009, Mr. Wang Yonghang, a 36-year-old lawyer from Dalian in Liaoning province, was put on trial at the Dalian Shahekou District Court and immediately sentenced to seven years in prison for defending Falun Gong practitioners and "damaging the implementation of the law." In July 2008, Mr. Wang published a detailed online article analysing the illegality of Article 300 - the provision most often used to imprison Falun Gong practitioners. He argued that Article 300 does not meet minimum international legal standards of clarity and specificity. As a result, the law firm terminated its employment contract with Mr. Wang, and the authorities revoked his licence to practise law.

    On April 29th, 2009, Mr. Xie Deqing, a retired engineer, was arrested outside of the Gapxin District Court and detained at Xinjin Brainwashing Centre. He was tortured so severely that within a month he became emaciated, was urinary incontinent, could barely swallow water, and developed heart disease. On the evening of May 27th, Mr. Xie passed away just four days after returning home. In order to destroy the evidence of abuse in custody, on May 29th, a large number of officers crashed Mr. Xie's funeral ceremony. They beat his eldest son Xie Weidong and injured him. Then they took away Mr. Xie's body and had it cremated.
  • Four Practitioners from Zhaoyuan City Heavily Sentenced Without a Trial

    Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Zhang Shuchun, Ms. Wang Haohong, Mr. Li Yongjie and Mr. Peng Yuekuan from Zhaoyuan, Shandong Province, were arrested and then heavily sentenced by the Zhaoyuan Municipal Court. As of November 9th, 2009, they have been held for five and a half months. Ms. Zhang Shuchun was sentenced to seven and a half years, Ms. Wang Haohong seven years, and Mr. Li Yongjie five years, while the sentence of Mr. Peng Yuekuan is unknown. The relatives of the practitioners were very angry and asked the court, "How can you make such sentences without an open court?" Wang Haitao, the vice presiding judge, answered, "There is no need for an open court."
  • Elderly Ms. Wang Lianzhi Dies as a Result of Abuse in the Yunnan Province Second Women's Prison

    Ms. Wang Lianzhi was arrested in 2008 for practising Falun Gong and sent to prison. Ms. Wang was released on medical parole on January 7th, 2009, and she was almost in a vegetative state by then. All of her teeth were loose or falling out, she had terrible headaches, and she could not sleep. She was rushed to the Kunming City First People's Hospital on November 16th, 2009, and she never woke up from unconsciousness. Her family took her home on November 25th since there was no hope of recovery, and she died on November 27th.
