  • Autopsy Shows Mr. Lu Zhen Suffered Severe Physical Trauma Prior to Death

    Mr. Lu Zhen, 33, died in the Shandong Province First Prison on June 22nd, 2009. His neck, hips, stomach, and legs were covered with bruises, and there were whip marks on his body. His family did not believe the prison administration when they told them that he died of sudden heart failure and that it was a natural death. They requested an autopsy on the morning of June 30th, and the results showed that he had suffered severe physical trauma prior to his death. It is highly likely that a beating was the cause of death.
  • Two Elderly Practitioners Die in Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region As a Result of the Persecution

    Mr. Ma Chunwang, 82, lived in Urumqi City, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. He was arrested many times after the persecution began in 1999. On September 6th, 2008, he was arrested along with fellow practitioners Mr. Cao Hongqi and Mr. Zou Kewen, and about a dozen practitioners then later bailed him out. On May 6th, 2009, the Middle Court of Urumqi City held trials for Mr. Cao Hongqi, Mr. Zou Kewen, Mr. Zhu Kui, and Mr. Ma Chunwang. Mr. Ma returned home after the trials. On July 12th, 2009, Mr. Ma was found dead by his neighbour in his home. His Falun Gong books, personal ID, and MP3 player had been taken away from his home.
  • Ruthless Abuse of Falun Gong Practitioners in Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp

    The first thing a new arrival in Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp encounters is several "reform" strategies. These include having to read documents or watch DVDs that slander Falun Gong, writing statements to give up the Falun Gong practice and defame it, standing for a long time, being handcuffed and hung up, being deprived of sleep and water and food, being deprived of toilet use, and being forced to take drugs. Ms. Lu Xiumin was forced to sit on a small stool for two days and nights, but she refused to "reform." A guard shouted at inmates, "If she [Ms. Lu] does not 'reform' today, beat her today! If she does not 'reform' tomorrow, beat her tomorrow! Beat her till she 'reforms.'"
  • Four Years Later, Ms. Cui Wenxia Still Struggling to Recover from Nightmarish Experience in Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Cui Wenxia, a chemistry teacher, was arrested in May 2005 and tortured at a local detention centre. She was later sentenced to the Jiamusi City Forced Labour Camp and tortured there, too. As a result of torture Ms. Cui had heart, liver, and other organ failures. Going through the experience of being detained at the police department, detention centre, forced labour camp, and witnessing all kinds of torture and abuse, left very deep, emotional scars. Whenever she hears someone talk in a loud voice, she trembles in fear. To date, four years later, she has not yet fully recovered from being brutally persecuted.
  • Teacher in Her 50s Arrested Again after Years of Humiliation and Torture

    Ms. Li Xiuzhen is in her 50s. Persistent in her belief in Falun Gong, refusing Chinese Communist Party (CCP) demands to renounce her faith, she has been arrested nineteen times. She has been sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment, cruelly force-fed over 600 times, and tortured and humiliated with a dozen of different torture devices, including sleep deprivation and being beaten. On June 13th, 2009, Ms. Li Xiuzhen was once again arrested by police.
  • Terms of Imprisonment for Falun Gong Practitioners Arbitrarily Extended at the Hebei Women's Labour Camp

    Terms of imprisonment imposed on numerous Falun Gong practitioners held at the Hebei Province Women's Labour Camp have recently expired, but the authorities refused to release the practitioners and refused to provide an explanation. Guards had told practitioners to fill out and sign release forms but did not disclose the date of release. Practitioners Wei Guoxuan and Chen Junsu are being held beyond their terms, which expired on July 2nd and July 3rd, 2009, respectively. Wei Guoxuan's family visited the labour camp twice and demanded her release, but the guards were ambiguous and denied that her sentence had expired.
  • Bo Xilai: A Villain in the Persecution of Falun Gong Since 1999

    Bo Xilai, secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, is also former deputy secretary of the Liaoning Province Party Committee and former governor of Liaoning, former secretary of the Dalian Municipal Party Committee and former mayor of Dalian. Since July 20th, 1999, when Jiang Zemin's, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime started to persecute Falun Gong, Bo Xilai has directly controlled and directed the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Dalian City as well as Liaoning Province. Practitioners in this area have been persecuted brutally and inhumanly, and more intensely than in many other areas of China.
  • A Happy Family is Persecuted; Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Tortures Husband to Death, Wife Imprisoned

    In 2001, Mr. Wang Hongbin was arrested by police and was later sentenced to three years of forced labour. He was forced to watch as guards tortured his fellow practitioners. In order to "transform" Mr. Wang as quickly as possible, the guards tortured him with sleep deprivation, hung him up by handcuffs, and used matches to severely burn his hands, nearly burning off his fingernails. At the end of 2003, Mr. Wang was finally released back home. However, due to the brutal torture he was subjected to in the labour camp, he passed away at the early age of 39. On May 16th, 2009, Mr. Wang's wife, Ms. Feng Xiaomei, was sentenced to one and a half years at the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp.
  • Mr. Pan Benyu from Qiqihar Tortured to the Verge of Death

    Mr. Pan Benyu has been savagely tortured in Tailai Prison. As a result, he suffers from a heart condition and liver ascites, and has been vomiting blood. He has swelling in his brain and other areas of his body. In addition, he has many blood scabs in his nose and has great difficulty eating, sleeping, and breathing. His health is extremely poor and he is at risk of dying. The prison guards threatened Mr. Pan that if he did not renounce Falun Gong, the prison would not allow him to leave on medical bail. On May 22nd, 2009, not wanting to take responsibility for his death, the prison and the 610 Office notified Mr. Pan's family to take him home.
  • Dr. Shen Yueping Dies As a Result of Abuse in Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Dr. Shen Yueping passed away on July 16th, 2009. She was only 49 years old. Ms. Shen had been sentenced to a five-year prison term and suffered maltreatment in the Second Women's Prison in Yunnan Province because she refused to be "transformed". Practitioners had to face brainwashing from the guards every day. They were frequently beaten, pinched, or stabbed with needles, and sometimes nerve-damaging drugs were added to their food. In June 2009, her family received a notification of Ms. Shen's Release on Medical Parole." By that time, she was already dying.
  • The Persecution of Zhao Chunhua in Qianan City, Hebei Province

    Mr. Zhao Chunhua, 43, was arrested by police, beaten and shocked with electric batons in 2005 for distributing Falun Gong materials. He served a one-year term in a forced labour camp and was tortured. In August 2008, the police arrested Mr. Zhao again and sentenced him to two additional years of forced labour at a camp in Shijiazhuang City. Although his family tried very hard, they were unable to locate him. They were finally notified of his additional two-year sentence after the Olympics were over in late September.
  • Mr. Sun Xiaojun Dies as a Result of Torture by the Zhejiang Province Police Department and the Fourth Prison of Linping City

    Mr. Sun Xiaojun, 32, was tortured to the point of death by the Zhejiang Province Police Department and the Fourth Prison of Linping City. On May 14th, 2008, Mr. Sun was sent to the Fourth Prison of Linping City, where he was tortured for more than a year. He had been detained in the prison hospital and injected with unknown drugs. He weighed about 143 pounds before being incarcerated, but as a result of persecution, he became emaciated and his weight fell to 80 pounds. Since being released on June 30th, 2009, he had not been able to eat. He vomited even drinking water and was bedridden even while relieving himself. He was delirious and experienced continual cramping in his body. On July 15th, 2009, he passed away.
  • Mr. Yang Guiquan Dies in Custody in Liaoning Province

    Mr. Yang Guiquan, 45, was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in a shopping mall when he was reportedly arrested by police on June 20th, 2009. The police locked him up in the Xindi Detention Centre. His family went to request his release but the police refused their request. Mr. Yang began a hunger strike when he entered the detention centre, and was brutally force-fed by the guards. On July 5th, Mr. Yang appeared to be very ill, and was taken for emergency treatment to the Fuxin City Mining General Hospital, where he died at 3:00 p.m. on the same day. His family was notified that his "death was due to a heart attack".
  • Why Have So Many Happy Families Been Destroyed?

    Because he refused to give up Falun Gong, Mr. Zheng Zhi, who used to live in Liaoning Province in China, was placed on the "Wanted Criminals" list by the regime. He was forced to leave his new-born child as well as his wife, who had given birth just 20 days before. He received United Nations refugee status in Thailand and was given permission to move to Canada. He said, "I still vividly recall the way I felt when I was forced to leave my family behind. I didn't know if I would ever see them again. Because I refused to give up practising Falun Gong, all my family members were punished because of their association with me. The cruellest persecution is the abuse of one's soul."
  • Harbin City Police Conspire with the Local Court System to Prevent Practitioner Li Zhigang from Receiving Legal Defence

    The police department, the local procuratorial system, and the local court system in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province conspired to prevent Falun Gong practitioner Li Zhigang's defence lawyer from mounting a legal defence to prove his innocence. Li's legal counsel is a conscientious lawyer from Beijing. He received a notice from a so-called prosecutor named Song Chengzhang of the Nangang District Court on June 17th, 2009. According to the notice, the court was going to conduct the trial for Li Zhigang's case at 9:00 a.m. on June 22nd. The lawyer then travelled from Beijing to Harbin and appeared at the Nangang District Court on June 22nd. On that day, Song told the lawyer, "The city sent out an ad-doc notice. It said that this case is a special case and the trial will not take place today after all.
