  • The Plight of Ms. Zhang Yan and Her Family

    In 2000, Ms. Zhang Yan was arrested when she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and sent to Sichuan Women's Forced Labour Camp, where she and other practitioners were persecuted by being forced to stand facing a wall for 18 hours a day every day. They were not allowed to shower, change clothes, or even brush their teeth. They were locked in their rooms all the time and each of them was allowed to use the toilet in their rooms only twice a day. The toilets in their rooms were dirty and uncovered. Eventually, Ms. Zhang became covered in scabies. In summer, the rooms were steaming hot, and still the guards forced them to sit on plastic stools facing the wall for 16 hours a day. The guards didn't allow the practitioners to have family visits, make phone calls, or send letters. The practitioners had to do hard labour and were made to attend brainwashing sessions.
  • 70-Year-Old Ms. Liu Huijun Died Due to Persecution in Jilin Province

    Practitioner Ms. Liu Huijn was 70 years old. After July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal many times, and was arrested and detained repeatedly. In February 2003, police officers stormed into Ms. Liu's home and arrested her and her husband. They tortured Ms. Liu for two months by slapping her, kicking her, and suffocating her with a plastic bag. She was then sentenced to forced labour and taken to the Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp. Because she had been severely tortured, Ms. Liu was rejected by the camp due to her physical condition. They released her after extorting 1500 yuan from her. During the past several years, financial extortion and mental and physical torture caused Ms. Liu to live in terror. She died on December 19th, 2007.
  • Mr. Xu Yongke Beaten Unconscious and Taken into Custody by Langfang City Police

    Mr. Xu Yongke started practising Falun Dafa in 1998 and following the principles of Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance to be a good person. This has led to years of persecution from the Chinese Communist regime. On December 9th, 2007, Mr. Xu Keyong was visiting one of his family members in the hospital when over twenty police officers arrived. They came to arrest Mr. Xu on fabricated charges, claiming that Mr. Xu went to Beijing to appeal during the Communist Party's 17th National Congress, which was held in mid-September 2007. The officials hit Mr. Xu in the corridor of the hospital building, knocking him unconscious. Doctors had Mr. Xu hospitalised, and they started an intravenous infusion. However, the police came and forcibly removed Mr. Xu from the hospital.
  • Mr. Cui Jian, Detained in Fushun City's 2nd Prison, Recounts Brutal Arrest, Unlawful Sentencing and Torture

    On June 20th, 2003, my wife (also a practitioner) and I were shopping in a supermarket when the police arrested us. The violent action drew attention from many people nearby. I shouted, "Falun Gong is good! It is not a crime to practise!" We were locked up in a small dark room in the Tiexi Police Branch of Shenyang City. They tortured me for the next 4 days around the clock. The torture included punching me, kicking me, threatening me with a dagger, burning my fingers with a lighter, piercing my finger nails and toe nails with needles, depriving me of sleep for 4 days straight, hanging me up with handcuffs which caused the cuffs to cut into my flesh and my hands became swollen and numb. They mocked me by saying, "We are bandits. We are robbers. So what are you going to do about it?"
  • Sun Hongchang Beaten into Disability

    Police from the Qingyuan County Police Department in Liaoning Province arrested Mr. Sun Hongchang on March 28th, 2006 because he practised Falun Gong. He was detained at the Tianqiao Police Station. Police officers brutally beat Mr. Sun. They shocked Mr. Sun's lower body with an electric baton. Guan held down one of Mr. Sun's legs and raised the other over his head. Sun fainted many times from the pain. After this brutal torture, Sun Hongchang's left leg was paralysed and the skin turned purple.
  • Once Chased and Shot at by Police, Mr. Zheng Qunpeng Now Dies as a Result of Persecution

    Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Zheng Qunpeng, 42, was detained for 16 days in August of 2000, because he practised Falun Gong. At the end of 2003, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Secretary of his employer and police officers from the Taishan Station unsuccessfully tried to arrest him. At around 5:20 a.m. on March 14th, 2004, while Mr. Zheng was on his way to work, police officer Zhao Qingzhe and others from the Taishan Station chased him, shot at him from behind, and took him into custody for more than five hours. They then proceeded to torture him. He was forced to go to work before he was fully recovered and lived under close monitoring at work and home. He died on July 18th, 2007 in a hospital in Shenyang City.
  • Mr. Wu Yueqing Died under Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Yueqing, in his 30s, lived in Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. He was arrested, sentenced to prison and tortured multiple times. Mr. Wu went on hunger strike to protest, and he was cruelly force-fed by guards and the prison doctor. They stuck a water bottle down his throat, damaging it, and force-fed food into his trachea, caused his lungs to become infected. He died on December 23rd, 2007, leaving a 13-year-old child to live in an orphanage, as the mother had also passed away.
  • Ms. Zhao Jiafang Died after Labour Camp Personnel Injected Her with Unknown Drugs

    In August 2001, several local police officers and security guards arrested 64-year-old Ms. Zhao Jiafang at her home. They detained her in the county detention centre and violently interrogated her. They had her sentenced to eight and half years in prison for the so-called crime of "obstructing the law" and took her to the Yongchuan District Forced Labour Camp. In the past several years of brutal treatment, Ms. Zhao was constantly forced to work overtime doing slave labour. Her eyesight was blurry and she could not finish her work. She passed out three times in the camp. She was finally taken to the labour camp clinic, but after she was injected with some unknown drugs, she appeared to have difficulty breathing. To avoid being held responsible for her death, the labour camp authorities released her for medical treatment on October 1st, 2007. She died on December 21st, 2007.
  • In November 2007, Seven Practitioners Are Verified to Have Died as a Result of Persecution and Torture

    Mr. Song Changguang was an outstanding student from the Communication Faculty of the Changchun Post and Telecommunication Institute. Because he openly said that he was a Falun Dafa practitioner, no company dared to employ him. Later, when he went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for Falun Dafa in accordance with the law, he was arrested. He was detained at the Chaoyanggou Forced Labour Camp in Changchun and suffered inhuman torture. A healthy and robust young man who was 1.8 metres tall became a mere skeleton as a result of torture. His joints protruded and he was basically skin and bones. His lower body developed festering sores. Even when he was in such terrible condition, the police still shocked Mr. Song with 35,000-volt electric batons and used other methods of torture on him. Mr. Song Changguang died on November 12th, 2003, at the age of 26.
  • Communist Agents from Guangan City, Sichuan Province Arrested and Sentenced Falun Gong Practitioners to Prison and Forced Labour

    In November 2006, more than 20 police officers raided a house and arrested three practitioners. The police confiscated four notebook computers, printers, a CD copying machine, printing materials, 40,000 yuan in cash, and a bank passbook worth over 100,000 yuan. They kept the computers and cash for themselves. They also attempted to force the practitioners to reveal the code for the bank passbook, but failed. Following Ms. Ding Yuerong and Mr. Zeng Geping's arrest, the police feared exposure of their crimes. They hid the practitioners in a secret location in Huarong City for a long time. They also did this to try to extort a confession. Recently, Guangan City officials secretly sentenced Mr. Zeng Geping and Xiang Lin to seven years in prison and Ms. Ding Yuerong to six years in prison.
  • Ms. Chen Guolan Sent to Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Chen Guolan, 43, was formerly an employee at the Kaili City Bedding Sheet Factory. She was persecuted several times for practising Falun Gong, and the managers at her workplace withheld a 20,000 yuan severance payment because of her belief. Her workplace attempted to embezzle the money by suing her in court, but they failed. Eight police officers arrested Ms. Chen Guolan at her home on August 15th, 2006. In September 2006, they sent Ms. Chen to the Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labour Camp. In November 2006, Ms. Chen appeared to have uterine cancer. The camp officials made requests to send her home for medical treatment, but police officials from the different units passed the buck, saying there was no money to take her back. Ms. Chen Guolan's family paid for her to return home.
  • Two Women Brutally Beaten in Broad Daylight by Police from Foshang City, Guangdong Province

    Around 10:00 a.m. on November 9th, 2007, Ms. Wen Yanling and Ms. Zhong Peiling went to the family home of Lin Bincheng, the former head of the 610 Office in Heshun Town, to give them leaflets explaining the truth about Falun Gong so that the Chinese people could understand the unreasonable persecution and what Falun Gong is really about. Lin's mother was the only person at home. She called the police. Lin Bincheng and a plainclothes police officer soon arrived and rushed into the house. Lin grabbed Ms. Wen Yanling by the hair and brutally punched and kicked her. He then turned around and beat Ms. Zhong Peiling as well. Lin and his partner brutally beat these two ladies for more than half an hour, until they could hardly breathe. Later, a few more officers came and put the two women in a police car and took them to Heshun Police Station.
  • Guangzhou City Police Confiscate Ms. Zhou Lianzhang's Belongings Worth Ten Thousand Yuan

    On October 31st, 2007, several local officials and four or five policemen broke down the door and handcuffed Ms. Zhou Lianzhang, a 74-year-old Falun Gong practitioner. They ransacked boxes and chests, willfully causing damage to things and making a mess. According to incomplete figures, they confiscated Ms. Zhou's treasured Falun Gong books, more than two thousand yuan cash, and some gold jewellery. These items were worth ten thousand yuan (almost 700 British pounds), and the invaders did not issue a list of items they took away
  • Fax Notice—Weifang City Tries to Eradicate Falun Gong Materials

    Editor's note: The following is an internal fax urgent notice from the Chinese Communist Party Committee of Weifang City:"The posting and distribution of Falun Gong's anti-revolutionary promotional materials has attracted much attention from leaders of the central government. Therefore, the central 610 office has initiated a secret inspection across the entire country and has taken severe action in those specific regions that didn't eradicate all of Falun Gong's anti-revolutionary promotional materials in a timely or thorough manner. Our city has many Falun Gong practitioners, and the anti-revolutionary promotional materials have been distributed widely and in large quantities. As a result, we demand all of the work units to pay attention to this clean-up work as a political task. On receiving this notice, all working units must immediately call for a meeting to mobilise the clean up work on Falun Gong's anti-revolutionary promotional materials."
  • The Persecution of Mr. Shi Jujun from Hebei Province

    In October 2000, Mr. Shi Jujun and another practitioner went to Shangyi County to distribute leaflets explaining the truth about Falun Gong so that the Chinese people could understand the unreasonable persecution and what Falun Gong is really about. They were arrested by five police officers. After Mr. Shi was detained for two days, he was taken to a detention centre. The police ordered a prisoner to beat Mr. Shi, and then they extorted 400 yuan from him. They planned to sentence him to two years of forced labour. Mr. Shi refused to cooperate with the police and was brutally beaten. His leg was broken during the beating. Then he was taken to Shangyi County and detained there for a year. In 2001, Mr. Xue was taken to Gaoyang County and sentenced to one year of forced labour.
