  • Crimes Committed by the Yongji County Police Department, Jilin Province, in the Lead up to the Olympic Games

    The Yongji County Political and Judiciary Committee, the 610 Office, the local police department, the State Security Division, and police officers from the Chengnan, Chengbei, and Chengxi police departments, all took part in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. The police arrested Mr. Zhu Yeguang, Ms. Sun Xiaomei, and Ms. Zhang Fengrong. Mr. Zhu and Ms. Sun were detained for fifteen days. After police extorted 10,000 and 20,000 yuan from them, respectively, they were released. Ms. Zhang's family is very poor; they barely have enough to eat. Yet, State Security Division chief, Wang Shuxiang, told them: "If you have money, we'll release Ms. Li, otherwise we'll send her to a forced labour camp."
  • Some Authorities in Liaoning Province Use the Means of Not Registering Residency to Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners

    The Xiangdong Chemical Factory in Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province was shut down in 2006. The factory leaders decided to relocate their workers. A portion of the workers were relocated to the Bayuquan Development Zone in Yingkou City. Up until March of this year there were over 3,000 families whose residencies were registered in the new location. However, a portion of Falun Gong practitioners were unable to get their residency registered. This means that their basic rights and benefits as residents of that area were totally taken away from them. In China, without valid registered residency, you cannot apply for a residence identity card. Without the registered residency and identity card, you cannot go to school or apply for jobs.
  • Retired Senior Engineer from Handan Steel Company Arrested Again

    Retired senior engineer Qin Zhongke, 65, and his wife were arrested on July 15th, 2008 by police officers. Mr. Qin Zhongke is being detained in the No. 1 Detention Centre in Handan City. His wife has been released. previously, Mr. Qin Zhongke was detained in Handan Labour Camp. From July 2nd to 23rd, 2002, Mr. Qin was deprived of sleep, was forced to stand for long periods of time under the baking sun, and was forced to stand day and night. His legs and feet became extremely swollen, he could not walk and he became very weak. In order to stop the brutal persecution, he began a hunger strike. He was force-fed several times, and his family had to pay the bill. The guards shouted: "Even if you pretend to be 'transformed,' you still have to write the 'repentance statement' before you can go to sleep."
  • Drugs Used to Persecute Falun Gong Practitioners in Fujian Prison

    For a long time, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel in the Fujian Prison have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners by forcibly administering or injecting toxic drugs that damage the central nervous system. According to a female fellow practitioner who was detained in the Fujiang Prison for two years, practitioners were asked what kind of illnesses they had before. When they got the answer, they then added some drugs to the practitioners' food to strengthen their physical persecution. If practitioners took these types of drugs for too long, they would feel that their previous illnesses had returned. If practitioners refused to take the medicine, the staff force-fed them.
  • High School Student Held Hostage by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Officials in Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province

    It has been reported that Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Haohong from Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province escaped from the brainwashing centre where she had been held captive for more than nine months. Local Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials were alarmed and in return took Wang Haohong's son, who is studying in high school, as a hostage. Family members are worried about the safety of the child.
  • Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in the Name of the Olympics

    As the Beijing Olympics approached and when the Olympic torch was about to reach Shijiazhuang, the capital city of Hebei Province, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) escalated its persecution of practitioners in that area. Over the past week, Anping County Police Bureau, the 610 Office, and officials from a number of townships and village harassed, monitored and arrested practitioners, or put them under house arrest. As an excuse for arresting practitioners, they made up false accusations. They claimed that "Falun Gong plans to have a big event, or Falun Gong wants to create social disturbances." Five practitioners from Anping County were arrested, thirteen practitioners' homes were ransacked, two practitioners were forced to become homeless and at least thirty practitioners were harassed.
  • Ms. Gao Shuyu Arrested and Taken to Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Gao Shuyu, 54, has been "sued" by the Chinese communist authorities in the Nanguan District Court on the main charge of "surrounding and attacking the Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp" and browsing the Minghui website (The Chinese version of Clearwisdom). Ms. Gao Shuyu had been to the Heizuizi Women's Forced Labour Camp to visit practitioner Zhu Shuyun who had been detained since May 9th, 2007. In mid-March 2008, the camp authorities invited Ms. Gao and Ms. Zhu's younger sister for a visit. During the visitation, the camp authorities secretly videotaped the practitioners. Afterwards, Ms. Gao's home and her activities were under police surveillance until she was arrested on April 22nd.
  • Harbin Police Officers Shoot at Practitioners During a Recent Arrest

    Between 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on July 29th, 2008, Li Hongde, director of Jiaojie Township Police Station, A'cheng District, Harbin City and several police officers tried to arrest Falun Gong practitioners who were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. Gunshots were fired by the police during the arrest. Practitioners Zhu Yumei and Wang Kun were taken into custody. Both practitioners are currently detained at the A'cheng No. 2 Detention Centre. It was rumoured that the officials from the local "610 office" and the Domestic Security Division are trying to make a big deal out of this case.
  • Many Practitioners Detained Recently in Fuyu County, Heilongjiang Province

    On July 10th, 2008, police broke into Falun Gong practitioner Song Xinhua's home and took her to the Friendship Police Station. They locked her onto heating pipes and several policemen took turns beating her. On July 12th, police broke into Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Qing's house, took her to the Friendship Police Station, stole her computer, printer, CD burner, binding equipment and also took the 500 yuan in her pocket. Later, police beat her and detained her in the detention centre.
  • Jiangxi Province Women's Prison Officials Test Practitioners' Blood Against Their Will

    During May and June 2008, guards from the Jiangxi Province Women's Prison tortured practitioners who refused to give up Falun Gong. The guards forced practitioners, including the ones who were "transformed," to undergo blood tests against their will. Practitioners' hands were handcuffed behind their backs and then hung by the cuffs onto the window's metal frame, so that the victim's feet dangled. The cuffs cut into their flesh, causing tremendous pain. Another form of torture was shocking the practitioners with high voltage electric batons, causing burns and swelling. In the extreme summer heat, some practitioners were locked up in a small windowless cell that was infested with mosquitoes and other insects. There is no heat in the winter, so the cells were extremely cold.
  • Ms. Ju Mingxia Arrested in Songyuan City, Jilin Province

    Police in Jilin Province arrested many practitioners and sent some to labour camps in April 2008, under the pretext of "maintaining security before the Olympics." The arrests took place without any warrant or incriminating evidence. They arrested Ms. Ju Mingxia on April 13th, 2008.
  • Officials Force Practitioner Ms. Yin Guiqiu's Husband to Divorce Her

    Ms. Yin Guiqiu went to Beijing to explain the facts about Falun Gong to officials in late December 2000. Train police arrested her and held her at the county detention centre for more than three months. The police arrested her again on March 6th, 2002, as she was posting Falun Gong flyers in Xiangyin County. They took her to the county detention centre, where the guards brutally tortured her. She was sentenced to six months of forced labour on June 9th, 2002. Her husband divorced her due to pressure from the local officials.
  • Mr. Hu Heping from Hunan Province Dies as a Result of Torture

    On March 18th, 2008, police arrested Mr. Hu Heping and took him to the Yueyang City First Detention Centre. Due to the torture that Mr. Hu endured while in police custody, his internal organs were injured, there was blood in his urine, and his legs and feet were swollen. He could not stop coughing. His weight dropped from 120 pounds to just 90 pounds. On June 16th, guards took him to the hospital and they found his internal organs were severely damaged. He never recovered from his injuries and died on the early morning of August 7th.
  • Mr. Sun Yuzhang,76, Dies from Police Harassment; More Than Twenty Practitioners Arrested in Hebei Province

    Mr. Sun Yuzhang, 76, went to Beijing twice July 20th, 1999 to explain the facts about Falun Gong with his personal experience. Police detained him for eight months in the Shenzhou City Detention Centre. In July 2008, for the sake of "Olympics security," police started another round of arresting, harassing, home-ransacking, and surveillance on all Falun Gong practitioners. They arrested 20 to 30 practitioners. On July 18th, police tried to arrest Mr. Sun's youngest daughter (a practitioner), but they did not succeed. Mr. Sun was deeply disturbed and worried about his daughter. He felt very upset on the evening of July 21st, and died on July 22nd, 2008.
  • Ms. Wu Minhua Dies As a Result of Persecution

    Ms. Wu Minhua, 67, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in December 1999, and was detained for 15 days upon returning home. She was then listed on the police department's "blacklist." In May 2004, Ms. Wu was forcibly taken to a brainwashing session held. She was locked in a 60 square-foot dark room for two months and tortured both mentally and physically. Police closely monitored her, and constantly harassed her. The huge pressure injured her mind and body, and she died on July 22nd, 2008.
