  • Imprisoned for Seven Years in the Past, Yang Chanrong Now Sentenced to Six Years

    Mr. Yang Chanrong was imprisoned for seven years before his release in 2007. On May 26th, 2010, several police officers broke into Mr. Yangs home. They took his computer, leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, Falun Gong books, and many other personal belongings. After arresting him, they took him to a brainwashing centre, where those in charge try to force people to give up their belief. They later transferred him to the Xilin Detention Centre, where he is still being detained. On June 23rd, 2011, Chinese Communist Party officials brought Mr. Yang to trial. Mr. Yang's attorney was driven out of the courtroom, since he was going to enter a “Not Guilty” plea in Mr. Yang's defence. The court refused to allow Mr. Yang to defend himself sentenced him to six years of imprisonment.
  • Several Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Shenzhen; Mr. Liu Xiaoguang Still Missing

    On June 21st, five Falun Gong practitioners from Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, were arrested by the Shenzhen 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). Mr. Liu Xiaoguang is still missing. These arrests were apparently planned some time ago. The authorities monitored the practitioners by listening in on their phone conversations and following them closely. In carrying out the operation, the police disturbed the practitioners' neighbours and had no regard for how their actions impacted their daily lives. Many residents complained that the 610 Office was evil and dreadful.
  • Government Worker Ms. Zhou Ailin Arrested Nine Times for Practising Falun Gong

    Falun Gong practitioner Zhou Ailin is currently being held in the Hubei Province “Law Education” Centre (a brainwashing facility). She was beaten by a guard, whose last name is Jiang, so badly that her face became disfigured. After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, Zhou Ailin was arrested and sent to brainwashing centres on seven occasions, and detained twice. She was dismissed from her government job.
  • 143 Practitioners from Tangshan City Arrested and Persecuted in Ten Months

    Between August 2010 and June 2011, approximately 70 agents from the Tangshan City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), Political and Judiciary Committee, Domestic Security Bureau, and Police Department arrested 143 Falun Gong practitioners and sent them to detention centres and/or forced labour camps. The officers also ransacked all of the practitioners' homes. Many other practitioners in the region have been put under surveillance and harassed by the authorities.
  • Yushu City 610 Office Agents and Domestic Security Division Officers in Jilin Province Persecute Practitioners to Earn 100,000-Yuan Bonus

    Yushu City 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Domestic Security Division officers have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners since June to receive a huge bonus of 100,000 yuan. These agents colluded with officers from neighbourhood committees and some individual township governments to harass and arrest practitioners. Yushu City Domestic Security Division officers arrested practitioner Mr. Liu Fengbao on June 20th, and held him in the Yushu City Detention Centre. Mr. Liu is on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
  • Thirty Falun Gong Practitioners Recently Arrested in Dalian City

    Thirty Falun Gong practitioners were arrested by police at Mr. Shen’s home in Dalian City on June 25th, 2011. The police rushed into the house without showing any legal documents, and they were not wearing police uniforms. After taking pictures and videos, they forcibly dragged practitioners into the police vehicles. Some practitioners shouted “Falun Gong is good” to protest the unjust arrest. The police shoved two practitioners surnamed Shi and Feng down to the ground and stomped on their heads. Due to the abuse, Shi’s eyes were blackened and Feng’s chin was badly bruised. Practitioners were sent to detention centres.
  • Husband Imprisoned, Wife Sentenced to Forced Labour

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Hongxia was arrested by agents from the Qinghe District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the Qinghe Domestic Security Division in Huaian City, Jiangsu Province, on May 12th. After being detained for a month, she was sentenced to one year of forced labour and taken to the Jiangsu Women's Forced Labour Camp on June 12th. Her husband, also a practitioner, has been imprisoned since 2009.
  • An Upstanding Person Faces an Unjust Trial

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Zhichen received a phone call on March 4th, 2011, from the director of the Wangqi Town Police Station, requesting to meet him at Mr. Liu's home. Although no family members were at home and the door was locked, Mr. Liu found the police sitting inside his home when he came back. Obviously the police broke the lock to forcibly gain entry, but they denied it. Upon ransacking Mr. Liu's home, the police found printing equipment. They took away Mr. Liu's personal belongings and Falun Gong DVDs. Mr. Liu has since been detained at the Jilin Detention Centre. Mr. Liu is well known in his village for helping his fellow villagers for years. Mr. Liu faced a trial on June 25th.
  • Ms. Deng Xiuyan Incarcerated for Over Four Months, Her Relatives Detained for Seeking Her Release

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Deng Xiuyan was arrested on January 5th, 2011 and has been detained in the detention centre of Fengrun District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. Her family and friends went to the Yangguanlin police station on May 20th and requested her release. However, they were not successful and even worse, one of them, Mr. Zhang Lijun, also a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested on the spot by police. That afternoon, Ms. Deng’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law took some food to the police station for Mr. Zhang Lijun. Yet all of them were arrested.
  • Hebei Province Falun Gong Practitioners Ms. Jia Liyuan and Ms. Zhang Guiping Arrested

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jia Liyuan and Ms. Zhang Guiping were arrested by the police on May 28th. The details are under investigation. Ms. Jia Liyuan, 49, had been arrested by the Qianan Domestic Security Division Police several times before. Once, in 2008, the police used electric batons to shock her neck, hands, arms, chest and back, then poured boiling water on her face and used other cruel methods to torture her.
  • Shanghai Engineer Sentenced Again, Prison Denies Family Visits

    Mr. Zhang Qin, 54, was arrested for the sixth time for practising Falun Gong in June 2009, and sentenced to five years in prison by a Xuhui Court in March 2010. This action represents the second unjust sentence he has received. He was taken secretly to Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai. The prison has not allowed Mr. Zhang's parents to visit him since last November. Previously, in detention guards mercilessly beat Mr. Zhang. He was forced to stand facing a wall continuously for six days and nights at the Xuhui District Detention Centre.
  • Neighbours and Friends Outraged When a Salon Owner Is Sentenced to Forced Labour

    Wang Weichuang, the owner of Quanmei Salon located in Songhuajing in the Huanggu District of Shenyang City, was arrested on April 21st, by the Lingdong Police Station of Huanggu District Public Security Subdivision. The deputy director of the station, Liu Haitao, trumped up charges against Mr. Wang and had him sentenced to forced labour for one year and three months just because Mr. Wang is a Falun Gong practitioner. Lingdong Police Station committed this crime in the pursuit of benefits and bonuses. During the arrest, there were many bystanders, and his neighbours and friends were outraged by what they saw.
  • Elderly Practitioner Li Yuzhen’s Family Hires a Lawyer, 610 Office Retaliates with Threat of Heavy Sentence

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Yuzhen, 68, was arrested in March 2011, then the local public security office, procuratorial office, and the courts conspired to send Mr. Li to prison. Mr. Li’s family hired a lawyer to defend him, but the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) created obstacles in every possible way for the family and the lawyer. The head of the 610 Office even threatened, “Li will get a heavy sentence if the family hires a lawyer to defend him.”
  • Ms. Wang Meiling Sentenced to Forced Labour and Brutally Treated

    Ms. Wang Meiling has been persecuted many times since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. She was sentenced to a forced labour camp and her term was extended on a number of occasions. She was sentenced in 2002 to three years of forced labour in Yunnan Women's Forced Labour Camp. Ms. Wang's term in Yunnan Women's Forced Labour Camp was extended for eight months, and she was severely tortured. She was finally released in 2006. On March 10th, 2011, Ms. Wang was reported to the authorities when she was seen talking to people about Falun Gong in a park. She was arrested by police. Chuxiong Court sentenced Ms. Wang to three years in prison on May 26th. She is now in the process of appeal.
  • Family Files Lawsuit for Ms. Su Dan's Torture in Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp

    When Ms. Su Dan was home on February 20th, the neighbourhood administrator deceived her into opening the door by saying that she needed to check her residential permit. Three police officers stormed in and arrested her. Ms. Su told her lawyer that the guards at the Shunyu District Detention Centre had brutally beaten and severely injured her. Ms. Su was sentenced to forced labour and taken to the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp. She was forced to sit up straight on a small chair 18 hours per day, with both hands in her lap and without moving. If she moved, three prisoners assigned to watch her would beat her. Ms. Su's husband complained to the Beijing Forced Labour Bureau about Ms. Sun being tortured. The labour camp authorities asserted that no torture or beatings of any kind took place.
