  • Ms. Sun Xiuhua's Personal Account of Torture at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Sun Xiuhua was arrested for clarifying the facts about Falun Gong on April 14th, 2012. She was taken to the Dandong Detention Centre and later sentenced to 18 months in the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp on May 13th, 2012. She recounts: "I was severely tortured and exhibited symptoms of high blood pressure. When the guards ordered me to take some of what they called “medicine”, I refused. Guard Zhang Lei then took me to the “Donggang” torture chamber. As soon as I entered the room, my hands and feet were tied to the four corners of a metal bed frame. They then used a tool to pry open my mouth."
  • Ms. Liu Rangying Recounts “Stretching” Torture and Other Abuses at Qinglongshan Brainwashing Centre

    Ms. Liu Rangying was arrested in October 2011 while seeking the release of her sister, who had been detained for raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong. She recounts: "On November 14th, police officer Tao Hua tried to force me to write the “three statements” to renounce practising Falun Gong. I refused. I went on a hunger strike to protest the unjust detention. Police officer Jin Yanpeng hit and kicked me hard. He threatened me and said that people were “transformed” by force, not “education” at the centre. They took turns trying to brainwash me with slanderous propaganda materials all day long."

    The persecution of Falun Gong is ongoing, despite the much-touted dismantling of the forced labour camp system in China. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues its brutal repression by ordering police, prosecutors, judicial system staff, and local officials to continue with the same policies of arbitrary arrest, detention, and brainwashing. The same physical and spiritual torture methods, designed to force practitioners to renounce their beliefs, continue to be employed in brainwashing centres in Jiangjin District of Chongqing.
  • Tortured to the End: Personal Account of the Last Person to Leave the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Zuo Xianfeng was the last Falun Gong practitioner detained in Qianjin Forced Labour Camp in Harbin City before it was shut down. She walked out of the camp on the morning of August 29th, 2013. Ms. Zuo was reported to the police by a villager while she was distributing informational materials about Falun Gong and was arrested on November 4th, 2012. She was detained there for two years and two months. On her day of release, officials still tried to make her write the “three statements” to renounce Falun Gong before releasing her and tried unsuccessfully to forcibly transfer Ms. Zuo to another detention facility.

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Bao Wenju was arrested by police in October 2013, and taken a brainwashing centre. She has since been subjected to torture, including being force-fed with chilli water and mustard oil through her nose, and having cigarettes inserted into her nostrils. The police have even threatened to remove her corneas.

    People around the world often like to use colourful strings of lights to enhance the festive atmosphere when celebrating the New Year and other special occasions. However, most people are probably not aware of how these jolly items are produced: Many of them are handmade by the detainees of the Taiyuan Detention Centre in Shanxi Province, where Falun Gong practitioners and others are subjected to daily slave labour.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner in Her Seventies Taken Into Custody at Midnight by 610 Office Agents

    Practitioner Ms. Wang Guilan, who is in her seventies, went missing in November 2013. Her family later learned that Ms. Wang had been taken into custody in the middle of the night by the Huadian City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), and taken to the Shahezi Brainwashing Centre in Jilin City. The brainwashing sessions started at 8:00 a.m. daily. The content of the so-called lectures was material that slandered Falun Gong.
  • More Than a Decade of Persecution: Jiangxi Police Continue to Detain Falun Gong Practitioner for Her Belief

    When the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Ji Shujun, 50, was repeatedly arrested, detained and subjected to the regime's notorious “education through forced labour.” She was sentenced to three years in a labour camp in 2002 after she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. In the Gaoyang Labour Camp, Ms. Ji was beaten with electric batons, forced to stand for prolonged periods and forced to stand outdoors in the bitter cold and snow. She staged several hunger strikes to protest the mistreatment.
  • Insights Into a Brainwashing Centre in the Xianning City Forced Labour Camp

    A brainwashing centre named the Xianning Legal Education Base (XLEB) was set up in the Xianning City Forced Labour Camp in October 2013, under the direction of the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the Politics and Law Committee in Xianning City. It's purpose was to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Falun Gong practitioners were forced to watch three types of videos, as part of the XLEB's overall brainwashing strategy. One video specifically slandered Falun Gong and its founder, Teacher Li Hongzhi. The second video disparaged traditional Chinese culture, and the third video was a direct attack on Buddhism.
  • Recounting My Hellish Experience in Heilongjiang Women's Prison

    I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, China. I was imprisoned in the Heilongjiang Women's Prison for six years for persisting in practising Falun Gong. Prison guards locked me in a tiny cell for almost two months, handcuffed to a metal ring cemented to the floor. They also handcuffed my hands behind my back for a year and a half, hung me by the handcuffs, forced me to stand outside in the freezing cold, and beat me repeatedly.
  • Mr. Liu Xifeng Being Severely Tortured in Shenzhen Brainwashing Centre

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Xifeng taught at the Nantou High School in Shenzhen. Mr. Liu has been tortured in prisons for ten years during the past 14 years of persecution of Falun Gong, and has become disabled as a result. He is currently incarcerated in Shenzhen Legal School, which is actually the Xili Brainwashing Centre. His food has been poisoned with nerve-damaging drugs and he is a facing mental collapse. Mr. Liu's wife, Ms. Wang Xiaodong, was also a Falun Gong practitioner. The couple was arrested in September 2002. Ms. Wang's legs sustained numerous needle punctures and she died in July 2003, due to the relentless torture.
  • Two Women Brutally Tortured for Refusing to Renounce Falun Gong: Teeth Knocked Out Due to Force-Feeding

    Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Lu Fulian and Ms. Lang Dongyue, both farmers, were brutally beaten and force-fed unknown drugs in Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp. The force-feeding was so violent that some of their teeth were knocked out. They were arrested and tortured for their belief in Falun Gong. Later, Ms. Lang was sent to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. When she was released in July 2009, she was nothing but skin and bones. She could no longer move her hands, so she could not take care of herself.

    I am from Shanghai, the largest and most prosperous city in China. I would like to give my personal account of being tortured in the Shanghai Women's Prison for three and half years, for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. The guards instigated the inmates to torture me. I was not allowed to sleep before midnight, but was the first to be woken up in the morning. The ongoing sleep deprivation and torture made me feel as if I was living in hell. I thought I was on the verge of a mental breakdown and even considered committing suicide several times.

    “One guard yelled, ‘Torture him to death and report it as suicide!’ Several guards rushed at me, twisted my hands behind my back, tied me up with bed sheets, and hung me from the upper level of a bunk bed, leaving my feet off the floor.” This nightmare happened to Mr. Gao Ke in the Suihua Forced Labour Camp, after he was arrested for the 12th time because of his belief in Falun Gong. This was his fifth labour camp detention.

    Ms. Gao Rongrong was disfigured due to electric shocks at the Longshan Labour Camp in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Ms. Gao was arrested and taken to the Camp in July 2003 because of her belief in Falun Gong. Ms. Gao was captured again in March 2005 and sent to the Masanjia Labour Camp in Liaoning Province. She died on June 16th, 2005. Zhang Sukun, Ms. Gao's mum, over 75 years old, petitioned for justice for Ms. Gao's death and encountered a lot of difficulties and threats. She died five years later.
