• Older Practitioner Ms. Wang Yuzhi Died after Seven Years in Zhejiang Province Women's Prison

  In November 2001, Ms. Wang Yuzhi, 64, was arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong and exposing the persecution. She was sentenced to to eight years in Zhejiang Province Women Prison. Ms. Wang was forced take unknown drugs. In addition, she was compelled to labour for more than ten hours per day. Ms. Wang used to be very healthy, but after seven years in prison, she had become emaciated. On February 2009, the prison administration told her family pick her up, to distance themselves from responsibility for her poor condition. When she returned home, she could not eat. She did not respond to medical treatment. Her whole body soon became swollen and her health continued to deteriorate. Ms. Wang died on February 20th, 2010.

• More Than Thirty Female Falun Gong Practitioners Have Been Persecuted to the Point of Mental Collapse at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

  Ms. Su was sent to Masanjia Labour Camp on October 31st, 1999. Guard Wang Yanping once stripped her naked and shocked her with an electric baton for an entire night. The torture left her covered with blisters and bruises. Her eyes and face were severely swollen. At the labour camp, Ms. Su was forced to take medications for psychotic patients every day, resulting in damage to her central nervous system. She developed a mental disorder. In order to evade their responsibility, camp officials released Ms. Su. A once beautiful and competent woman was reduced to a catatonic state, with bruises covering her body. She had a dull expression and couldn't think, talk or walk, and had lost her memory. Ms. Su died on April 8th, 2006.

• 76-Year-Old Falun Gong Practitioner Dies After Years of Detention by the Chinese Government

  Mr. Zheng Bao was detained for over six years by the Chinese government for practising Falun Gong, and his health suffered tremendously from the detention and maltreatment. On February 22nd, 2010, he passed away at the age of 76 without receiving justice for the abuse he suffered.

• The Persecution and Torture of Huang Lizhong Prior to His Death

  Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Huang Lizhong tortured at Panjin City Prison for over a year. The head of Ward 5, Wang Jianjun, tortured Mr. Huang with an electric baton on April 20th, 2009, almost killing him. More ruthless torture followed on October 20th, 2009 in Ward 7. Mr. Huang died as a result of torture some time around October 25th, 2009. Ward head Zhang Guolin did not inform Mr. Huang's family when he was in critical condition, and neither did he send Mr. Huang to the hospital for emergency treatment.

• The Tragic Death of Feng Gang

  After suffering severe torture at the hands of the police in Yaojia Detention Centre, Dalian Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Feng Gang passed away on August 14th, 2009. His family was not informed about his death until a month later. Feng Gang had begun a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The prison guards handcuffed his arms behind his back and conducted force-feedings daily. In early August, Feng Gang's oesophagus was ruptured by the force-feeding tube and became infected. The prison doctors ignored basic medical ethics and continued torturing him with the forced feedings. They even left the tube in Feng Gang's stomach for up to 48 hours at a time.

• In Memory of Ms. Jia Shuhua

  It saddened me when I learned that 55-year-old Ms. Jia Shuhua had passed away on March 25th, 2010. In 2002, Ms. Jia refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong and was sentenced to two years of forced labour. Due to maltreatment in the Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp, she developed stomach problems and was released. She remained weak after returning home, but officials threatened to take her back if she continued to believe in Falun Gong. She was arrested in 2006 and in 2008, managed to escape police arrest. After years of relentless persecution, Ms. Jia's condition continued to deteriorate. She soon passed away.

• High School Teacher Mr. Wei Xingzhi Passes Away after Enduring Years of Persecution

  Mr. Wei Xingzhi was a chemistry teacher at the Ziyun County No. 2 High School. Because Mr. Wei refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, he was subjected to multiple arrests and maltreatment by officials from the Ziyun County Police Department, the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the Zhongba Forced Labour Camp in Guizhou Province. While incarcerated, he was forced to do hard labour and was subjected to severe beatings, which caused him to suffer from nausea, dizziness, headache, chest pain, and he was coughing up blood. Mr. Wei died on December 3rd, 2009, at the age of 48.

• Mr. Yang Zhanjiu Arrested and His Wife Beaten to Death in Yushu City, Jilin Province

  On March 5th, 2010, Mr. Yang Zhanjiu and his father-in-law were arrested and then interrogated by the Yushu City's domestic security division. On the same day, the police, who waited inside Mr. Yang's home, also arrested two other practitioners who went to visit him. Mr. Yang's wife, Ms. Li Shuhua, was brutally tortured to death in a detention centre seven years ago. Those responsible are still at large.

• After His Wife Is Arrested, An Elderly Man Dies In Grief

  On January 6th, 2010, Mr. Yang Yaoshan's wife was arrested for trying to stop the police from detaining a group of Falun Gong practitioners. The police then broke into Mr. Yang's home, searched it and confiscated personal property. Traumatised from the sudden shock of these events, Mr. Yang suffered a stroke on January 9th. Despite efforts to save his life, Mr. Yang passed away on February 28th, 2010 aged 78 years old. In 2000, Mr. Yang was sentenced to one year of forced labour in the Jilin City Detention Centre. During his imprisonment, he suffered severe abuse, causing his health to deteriorate and his old symptoms of heart disease to recur.

• Ms. Hao Bianyun Dies as a Result of Forced Injections

  Ms. Hao Bianyun used to be a healthy and capable housewife and farmer. She became mentally disturbed and required full time care after she was held at the Xingtai Brainwashing Centre and injected with unidentified drugs six years ago. During her arrest several men dragged Ms. Hao from the house, covered her mouth, punched and kicked her, and threw her into the van. Her five-year-old daughter, crying and following her mother, was also thrown into the van. After a lengthy struggle in poor health, she finally died at the age of 43 on March 25th, 2010.

• Mr. Feng Guangyun, an Elderly Man from Daqing, Passed Away as a Result of Persecution

  Mr. Feng Guangyun, who was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because he practised Falun Gong, passed away on February 6th, 2010. In May 2002, Mr. Feng was taken into custody by police, and was detained and persecuted at the Qiqihaer Railroad Detention Centre. Mr. Feng was sentenced to two years in a forced labour camp and sent to the notorious Daqing Forced Labour Camp. After he arrived there, he was physically and verbally abused on a daily basis, and he was also tortured. After leaving the forced labour camp, due to the physical and mental torture, Mr. Feng was extremely weak and became sick leading to his death. He was 73 years old.

• Mr. Zhang Kunyang, 55, Dies in Sichuan Province

  Mr. Zhang Kunyang worked in the coal mines for many years, and was sick with industrial pneumoconiosis. He started practising Falun Gong when there was no hope for him to survive. Soon after he began practising, his health greatly improved. On May 29th, 2006, police arrested many Falun Gong practitioners, including Mr. Zhang, because many Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution had been appearing in Nanjiang County. Mr. Zhang was sentenced to two years of imprisonment, and taken to the Wumaping Prison in Leshan City. He was inhumanly tortured there and forced to sign the statements to renounce practising Falun Gong against his will. The long term brutal mistreatment and harassment caused Mr. Zhang's family to blame him for all these sufferings. Mr. Zhang's silicosis recurred and developed into emphysema, and he died in July 2009.

• Practitioners Mr. Shan Zhongxiang and Ms. Yan Xiuzhi, from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, Died as a Result of the Persecution

  Two Falun Gong practitioners, an elderly man and an elderly woman, died as a result of the extended persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Ms. Yan Xiuzhi was 63 years old when she died. On July 22nd, 1999, just after the CCP began the persecution, Ms. Yan visited the provincial government to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She also went to Beijing in June and December of 2000 to tell the government that Falun Gong is good, but was arrested. Subsequently, the CCP authorities constantly visited Ms. Yan, harassed and pressured her. She passed away in mid-April of 2003.

• 55-Year-Old Ms. Jia Shuhua Dies after Years of Persecution

  Ms. Jia Shuhua passed away on March 25th, 2010 after years of persecution by the police. Ms. Jia, 55, benefited immensely after she started practising Falun Gong in the 1990s. She enjoyed her life, and treated others with kindness. In 2002, Ms. Jia was turned in to the police while telling others about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was taken to the Pingdu City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). She refused to give up her belief in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance and was sentenced to two years of forced labour. Due to inhumane treatment in the Wangcun Women's Forced Labour Camp, she developed stomach problems. Soon she was in critical condition. In 2006, the police broke into her home, and took her to a brainwashing centre. Ms. Jia's condition continued to deteriorate leading to her recent death.

• Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted to Death in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province

  After Mr. Zhang Yumin began practising Falun Gong, his health problems disappeared. In 1999, after Mr. Zhang's wife went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials ransacked their apartment. Because the officers found Falun Gong books in the apartment, Mr. Zhang was arrested and sentenced to a forced labour camp for three years. His store was forced to close. His child was also forbidden to go to school and life became extremely difficult. After he was released from the forced labour camp, Mr. Zhang remained under surveillance for a very long time, which caused his family a great deal of anxiety. He began to manifest symptoms of severe illness. Mr. Zhang left passed away on July 2nd, 2007, at the age of only 41.
