Ms. Ma Chunling, a Falun Gong practitioner from Dalian City, was arrested on August 29th, 2012, and severely tortured at the Jinjia Street Detention Centre on September 5th. She sustained serious injuries and required several stitches. She has since been transferred to the Yaojia Detention Centre. Police refused to allow her family to visit.
Ma Chunling began practising Falun Gong in 1995, after which her thrombocytopenia (an abnormal decrease in the number of platelets in the blood) disappeared, and she regained good health. Ms. Ma sold insurance for a branch office in Dalian and was recognised for outstanding salesmanship. She was well respected and considered a good person. Despite the Chinese communist regime's severe persecution over the past 13 years, Ms. Ma has steadfastly held on to her faith, making an effort to tell people the facts about Falun Gong and dispel the regime's slanderous lies.
Ms. Ma met a man near the Qingniwa Bridge in Dalian on August 29th, 2012, who said he worked on a boat. Ms. Ma advised him to remember that Falun Gong is good, as she believed this would bring him good fortune. She said she hoped he would be safe, and gave him a Shen Yun Performing Arts [Shen Yun performance, a world-class traditional Chinese cultural show] DVD. However, the man reported Ms. Ma to the Zhanbei Police Station, and she was arrested and incarcerated at the Jinjia Street Detention Centre.
Liu Tao, Xiao Dongyun, and others, a total of five men and one woman from the Xigang Police Department, ransacked Ms. Ma's home, confiscating two computers, a printer, three mobile phones, and Falun Gong books and materials.
On September 5th, 2012, Ms. Ma was severely tortured, resulting in injuries that required several stitches. She was subsequently transferred from the Jinjia Street Detention Centre to the Yaojia Detention Centre.
On the day of Ms. Ma's arrest, her husband was also taken into police custody and interrogated for over four hours before being released.
Entire Family Suffers Due to Chinese Regime's Persecution
Ms. Ma's family entire became destitute and has been torn apart due to the communist regime's persecution. They have suffered greatly for persisting in their faith.
Ms. Ma went to Beijing to appeal for the freedom to practice Falun Gong on April 25th, 1999. However, she was arrested and held at the Liaoyuan Detention Centre for over a month. She also had to pay 6,000 yuan1.
Ms. Ma's husband was not a practitioner at the time, but after seeing Ms. Ma and her two sisters arrested, he became curious and read Falun Gong books to see what the practice was all about. He then understood that Ms. Ma and her sisters were simply trying to be good people and had done nothing wrong. Therefore, he decided to go with Ms. Ma to Beijing to appeal again.
On July 18th, 1999, Ms. Ma and her husband were arrested in Beijing by officers from the Dalian Xiuyue Police Station. After being held at the Yaojia Detention Centre for 64 days, Ms. Ma was sent to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp for a year, where she was brutally tortured. Her husband was detained for 66 days at the Xiuyue Police Station, even though he did not practise Falun Gong at the time. He was also forced to pay 7,000 yuan and subsequently lost his job.
Ms. Ma's elder sister has been arrested four times. She was also forced to pay fees and was sent to forced labour camps twice, being incarcerated for a total of over four years. She was subjected to many forms of physical and mental torture, and almost lost her life. Once she was released, she had to leave home to avoid further persecution.
Ms. Ma's younger sister has also been arrested and had money extorted from her. She was incarcerated in the Liaoyuan Detention Centre, where she was forced to endure brainwashing.
Ms. Ma's father's hair turned completely white after he learned that his three daughters had been arrested. He had to be hospitalized. Ms. Ma's mother once lay down in front of a police car to prevent the arrest of her eldest daughter; she nearly suffered a mental collapse.
After hearing that Ms. Ma had been arrested on August 29th, 2012, her elderly parents travelled a long way from another province to see her. However, the police wouldn't allow the visit. Ms. Ma's young child has been left with no choice but to cry for her mother. Ms. Ma's husband told police, “This family totally depends on her [Ms. Ma]. You do not allow us to live!”
