At 9 a.m. on November 3rd, 2010, the Kunming Middle Court in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, was scheduled to try Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Shulan, Ms. Yang Gongxiu, Ms. Wu Qifen, and Ms. Zhu Enhua.
At noon on April 12th, 2010, these four practitioners were arrested by officer Qiu Xueyan and others from the Liangyuan Police Station and affiliated with the Xishan Police Sub-Bureau in Kunming City and the Xishan District Domestic Security Brigade. After their arrests, one of the four practitioners' homes was ransacked. They confiscated her computer, monitor, stereo system, a desktop MP3 player, an MP4 player, another MP3 player, and a thousand yuan1 in cash. After that, Ms. Wang was put under house arrest, and Ms. Yang was released on bail.
Ms. Wang Shulan, who is in her 70s, is retired from the Wuhua District Printing Factory in Kunming City. On February 5th, 2000, she was on a train on her way to Beijing to appeal to the government, when she was arrested and put into detention for 15 days. On April 4th, 2000, she went to the Appeals Office under the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Committee of the Yunnan provincial government. Because of that, she was arrested by people from the Domestic Security Brigade in Xishan Police Bureau and taken to a forced labour camp, where she was detained for three years.
Ms. Yang Gongxiu, 65, is retired from the Yunnan Province Railway General Company. On April 22nd, she was arrested and taken to the detention centre. Due to her high blood pressure, she was released for medical reasons on April 15th.
On March 9th, 2004, Ms. Wu Qifen, who is 56, was arrested by Xishan District Police Sub-Bureau. After her arrest, she was taken to the Yunnan Province Women's Forced Labour Camp, where she was tortured for two and a half years.
On April 12th, 2010, when Ms. Zhu Enhua, 33, went to visit Wang Shulan, she was searched by officers from the Domestic Security Brigade of the Xishan Police Sub-Bureau. After finding that she carried with her Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution, they ransacked her home.
