  The camp guards at Baoding Forced Labour Camp inhumanely tortured practitioners who were detained there in an attempt to coerce them into giving up the practice of Falun Gong. Among the tortured practitioners was Mr. Lin Shizeng, the former principal of the Hebei Province Technology Quality Control School, who was hung up with cuffs, beaten and subjected to electric shocks.

• Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Chen Hanchang from Qidong City, Jiangsu Province Died After Long-term Detention and Torture

  Mr. Chen Hanchang, 54, was detained at Qidong Detention Centre, Fangqiang Labour Camp and various brainwashing classes for a long time. Because he refused to give up his belief, he was transferred to other areas to suffer further persecution after serving his detention in the local area. While in detention, he suffered from inhumane torture, including beatings and was forced to do long-term, intense physical labour. When he was released on November 20th, 2003, he was in an extremely weak condition and lost consciousness. He passed away three days later, on November 23rd, 2003.

• Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Liu Gairong from Hebei Province Relates the Persecution She Experienced

  On September 9th, 1999, three practitioners and I went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Since then I have been tortured on several occasions including with electric batons and force-feeding. The persecution that I suffered led to a loss of several hundred thousand yuan. The police arrested me numerous times, broke my door lock and tore up my clothes. My son was deeply traumatised. As a result, my son could not go to school and suspended his schooling for one year. My daughter was terrified many times. At present, she trembles when she encounters even insignificant incidents.

• Police at Shengli Oil Field in Shandong Province Persecute Middle School Student in Brainwashing Centre to Locate and Arrest Her Father

  In order to locate Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Yue Guomin, who had left his home in order to avoid being persecuted by the authorities, police officer Dong Ning from the Binhai Police Station at Shengli Oil Field, in Shandong Province, arrested Mr. Yue's daughter, Yue Qun, a student from the No. 1 Middle School in Shengli Oil Field. The police took her to Jishu Company Brainwashing Centre, where she was persecuted for five days. The police coerced Yue Qun into divulging the whereabouts of her father.

• I Have Been Persecuted for Seven Years, Ever Since I Returned to My Homeland in China

  In August 2002,police arrested me for distributing leaflets about the persecution of Falun Gong. I was sent to the local detention centre in Liaoning Province. I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and asked to be released with a not-guilty verdict. Several inmates held my head still while Doctor Qian Dapeng repeatedly force-fed me by sticking a tube through my nose. I almost suffocated. My throat and the tissue inside my nose was injured and bleeding. The pain was unbearable. Both sides of my face were pinched so hard by the inmates that it was extremely tender and the pain lasted almost two months. During my hunger strike I was taken to the district's public security bureau and interrogated. As soon as Sun Lizhong saw me, he said, "Lu Jianhua, I'm going to shoot you to death today." I ignored him.

• Ms. Yang Congmei from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province on the Verge of Death, Officers Refuse to Release Her

  Ms. Yang Congmei is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. Her father has requested again and again to see his daughter ever since she was arrested three months ago. The chief of Xinmin Town Judicatory Office, Liu Qingquan, agreed to pass the word to the other officers, allowing the visit. When he finally saw his daughter in the Xindu County Hospital on July 13th and 14th, 2007, she was on the verge of death. When Ms. Yang's father saw her, she had a black eye, her lip was bruised, her face was pale, and she was on the verge of death. Even in this frail condition, she was still wearing a heavy shackle.

• Older Falun Gong Practitioner in Jimo City, Shandong Province Arrested

  on June 16th, 2007, police and several local officials climbed into the fenced yard of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiuying's house. Ms. Zhang Xiuying stayed in the house with her door closed. When she asked what they were doing there, Dong Quanqi said, "Somebody reported that you had distributed flyers." The police kicked the door but failed to get in, and then called Chen Yucheng, the director of the Lingshan Police Station. Chen ordered them to smash down the door. They beat the old lady to the ground and dragged her to a police vehicle. Ms. Zhang kept shouting "Falun Dafa is good!" and was exposing the atrocity being perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime. Later, the authorities searched Zhang's house and confiscated property, making a huge mess in her home. The kitchen range was destroyed and the windows were broken.

• Falun Dafa Practitioner Ms. Du Mingliang Tortured at Nantong City Prison, Jiangsu Province

  According to a recently-released prisoner who was asked by the guards to monitor Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Du Mingliang at the Nantong City Prison, Jiangsu Province, guards at the prison handcuffed Ms. Du Mingliang and kept her in solitary confinement. They deprived her of sleep, gave her little to eat and no personal hygiene necessities. They even put a poisonous snake into her room to frighten her. She has been imprisoned since December 14th, 2005, when Ms. Du was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for distributing printed materials explaining the facts about Falun Gong and the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party .

• Older Practitioner Ms. Fu Guiju from Hebei Province Tortured to Death after Suffering from Eight Years of Persecution

  On May 12th, 2007, Ms. Fu Guiju was arrested and tortured in a detention centre until her life was in danger. On June 4th, she was arrested again and tortured further. On June 19th, police notified Ms. Fu's family that Ms. Fu had died on June 18th. She was 58. When her family asked how and where she died, the person was unwilling to accept responsibility by telling them, "I don't know anything about it. You have to go ask the detention centre authorities."

• Sham Trial in Jilin City, Jilin Province Illustrates Lack of Justice for Falun Dafa Practitioners in China

  On July 10th, judge Hu Chunwei of the Chuanying District Court in Jilin City, Jilin Province, put five practitioners on trial. Under pressure, the lawyer employed by Ms. Wang Liqiu's family could not enter a plea of innocence; he had to defend Ms. Wang according to the orders of the court authorities. During the so-called court session, Ms. Zhao Yingjie pointed out that after she was arrested, the police officers pierced her lower body with sticks covered in nails. She showed the wounds on her legs as evidence. Mr. Zhao Guoxing brought to court as evidence his clothes soaked with blood and stained with mustard oil, which he vomited when he was being force-fed. The evidence that was preserved for 4 months under arduous conditions was snatched away by the police.

• Ms. Ma Linqin Partially Paralysed from Torture by Police in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province

  In March, 2002, Ms. Wang Liqin was arrested while putting up materials exposing the persecution. She was then taken to the Second Detention Centre. Ten days later, she was picked up by her son; however, due to being tortured so brutally, she had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Doctors had to operate, but after the operation, one side of her body was paralysed, and she could not talk.

• The Persecution of Two Practitioners in Zhangjiakou Area, Hebei Province

  In February 2000, Zhang Yulan arranged for some practitioners to come to her home to share experiences from practising Falun Gong. She was reported to the police who detained her for 40 days. During detention, the director Fan Yanbing shocked her with electric batons. Before releasing her, the police department deputy chief Guo Shilin forced her to write statements slandering Dafa and also extorted 500 yuan from her. On October 25th, 2000, Zhang Yulan went to Beijing to appeal again. She was arrested and jailed in the local detention centre for one month. Her husband was also detained for two days because of her. The detention centre extorted 1,000 yuan from her before releasing her.

• Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Yang Jianpo from Langfang City, Hebei Province Force-Fed Eight Times a Day, Prison Doctor Says He Could Die At Any Time

  Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Jianpo was arrested on February 5th, 2006. Immediately after the arrest, Mr. Yang went on a hunger strike that has lasted 18 months. Currently, doctors are force-feeding him eight times a day. Yang Jianpo can no longer take care of himself and breathes through a ventilator. A prison doctor said he could die at any moment. The hospital authorities are waiting for higher officials to give orders to disconnect all life support. Previously, Yang Jianpo was savagely beaten and shocked for three days straight. The officers wrapped copper wires around his fingers and ran electric current through him. They kept increasing the electric current to maximise the pain. According to someone who underwent this torture, it's so excruciating it can make a person go insane.

• Ms. Li Hongping Tortured and Coerced Into a Confession by Police in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province

  Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Li Hongping is an employee of the Second Property Company of China Petroleum & Petrochemical Co., Lanzhou City Branch. On May 14th, 2007, four police officers went to the Lintao Street Garage where she worked, and arrested her. That same night, Ms. Li was tortured and coerced into a confession. She was forced to sit on a "tiger bench", and to "hang up in the air." After she was brutally tortured at the Lanzhou City Police Department, she was transferred to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre and again tortured. The officers at the brainwashing centre also ordered her employer to pay 3000 yuan for a so called "transformation" fee.

• Five Falun Gong Practitioners from Hubei, Shangdong, Guangdong, Jilin and Hunan Provinces Pass Away as a Result of the Persecution

  Ms. Liang Tianying, 68, began practising Falun Gong more than ten years ago. Her illnesses disappeared after she began the practice. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began, she had been detained by the local 610 Office and detention centre. She was also constantly harassed and persecuted. The police constantly followed her. Her family was harassed in May of this year. The elderly lady was under pressure for many years, which caused her mind and body to become exhausted. Her health declined dramatically and she passed away on May 19th, 2007.
