Falun Dafa Practitioner Bai Jianjun Recounts Persecution Experience at Shanghai First Detention Centre

I resisted the unjust persecution by not signing my name on the "repentance statement". Additionally, I went on hunger strike to protest the persecution. A group of inmates who were led by the guard slapped my face and beat my chest with their fists. A few inmates surrounded me and kicked me. They forced my head into the toilet; and, after three times of being held under, my will was broken and I gave up my hunger strike. Now, I really have experienced how brutal this persecution is and why this persecution has cast such a huge shadow of terror. It has taken months for me to gradually eliminate the terror I have experienced. -
Is a Court that Judges "Truth, Compassion and Forbearance" Illegal a Qualified Court?
2005-05-11Because five other Falun Gong practitioners and I appealed to a higher court for justice over unjust sentences, we were brought to trial together. I was charged with distributing "reactionary" leaflets containing the words "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance" and I was sentenced to three years of imprisonment. The court, the Procuratorate, and police collaborated to distort and exaggerate the facts in my trial. They counted up the pages of material bound into books and decided that any page with "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance" was an "illegal leaflet." I asked, "How can just these few words 'Truth, Compassion, Forbearance' on a page qualify it as a 'reactionary leaflet'?" The judge answered, "'Truth, Compassion, Forbearance' is evil by itself." -
Employees of the Children's Art School of the Hunan Province Department of Culture Are Forced to Defame Falun Gong
2005-05-11February 21, 2005 was the starting date for a new term at the Children's Art School of the Hunan Province Department of Culture. Just one week later, the young students in the No. 4 Calligraphy and Painting class were surprised to find that their very popular teacher, Ms. Gong Xianghui, had disappeared. Their teacher, Ms. Gong, is a Falun Gong practitioner. The school administration fired her because she refused to sign the so-called "safety responsibility letter," which contained statements that defamed Falun Gong. -
Changchun Police Launch Searches Targeting Practitioners Who Possess the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party"
2005-05-10According to insiders, the Chinese Communist Party recently issued a secret order requiring the police to intensify the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners between April 20 and May 20, 2005. The police are ordered to search every practitioner's home, and confiscate anything related to Falun Gong and the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party". To target those practitioners who have been forced to leave home to avoid further persecution, the secret order requires local police to search rented houses and check IDs of temporary residents in those rented houses. -
Harbin City Practitioner Wu Shufang Learned Falun Dafa in Prison and Was Intensely Persecuted
2005-05-10In February 2002, Ms. Wu Shufang was detained in the Harbin City Women's Prison for a criminal offence that she did not commit. There, she met some Falun Dafa practitioners and learned Falun Dafa. Once Wu Shufang began to practise Falun Dafa, she was put under "close surveillance" by the prison authorities and was watched around the clock by a 5-inmate team assigned to her. She has no human rights whatsoever - she is not allowed to talk to practitioners, to sit on the bed, to close her eyes, and she is followed everywhere, including when going to the toilet. -
Thirteen Practitioners, Including Ten Elderly, from Shandong, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Other Provinces Died Because of the Persecution
2005-05-1062 year old Ms. Cui Tong went to Beijing to appeal in April 1999. After returning home, she was harassed, threatened, and had her home-searched by police officers many times. She was also sent to a brainwashing session after which she was left blind in one eye and suffered urinary incontinence because of the constant threats. Police officers forced her family to pay 1,000 yuan before releasing her. She was forced to leave home for about one year to avoid further persecution. When she started to feel unwell, she was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer. She passed away at the end of September 2004. -
Circumstances Surrounding the Disappearance of Several Falun Dafa Practitioners
2005-05-10Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Chunhua, 50, was resident in Shandong Province. In September 2000 she walked for 19 days to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. When she reached Beijing, she was forcibly taken back to her hometown by the police and unjustly detained for two weeks. She was then released. She was again arrested on her way to Beijing to appeal shortly after and viciously tortured. On her third attempt to appeal she left home on January 17, 2001, and to this day she has not returned, and her whereabouts are unknown. -
Ms Sun Chuilian and Ms Liu Tongling Tortured to Death in 2003 at the Heilongjiang Women's Forced Labour Camp
2005-05-09Ms. Liu Tongling was fifty-two years old. She worked at Daqing Oil Refinery Plant in Heilongjiang Province. She was sent to the Heilongjiang Women's Forced Labour Camp in October of 2003. During more than a month of detention she was ruthlessly beaten up and subjected to tortures, including electric shocks, force-feeding and exposure to extreme cold. In November of 2003, Ms. Liu died on the "iron chair" in the basement. She did not have trousers or socks on when she died. -
85-Year-Old Ms. Chen Xiulan Died in 2002 As A Result of Being Beaten by Police in 1999
2005-05-09Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Chen Xiulan, 85 years old, lived in Huimin County, Shandong Province. She was severely beaten by the police when she went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. Ms. Chen was so traumatised by her Beijing trip that she did not speak a single word after returning home. The violent beatings were obviously a nightmare to her. One day she fell on the floor while trying to get out of bed and broke both of her hips. She never got up after that. After two years of suffering, she died in 2002. -
Missing Female Falun Gong Practitioner from Shandong Province May Have Been Murdered by the Police
2005-05-09Ms. Gao Deyan, 41, is suspected dead as a result of the persecution. At the time her husband was arrested in 2001 for practising Falun Dafa, she went missing, never to be seen again. An eyewitness report of someone who accidentally found Gao Deyan's body said, " in the summer of 2001, I saw a woman wearing colourful clothing, walking with a bike in her hand. The woman saw three plainclothes police. She dropped the bike and started to run. Three days later, I found her body floating in the water. I reported this to the police. Her body was buried a few days later." -
Ms. Jiang Jieyu from Sichuan Province, Died from Torture at Forced Labour Camp
2005-05-0950 year old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Jiang Jieyu went to Beijing twice to peacefully appeal for Falun Gong and was persecuted many times. When she was incarcerated in the Zizhong County Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp, she suffered various brutal tortures including injections that damage the central nervous system. The authorities did not send her home until she had been tortured to brink of death and was unconscious. She died in late 2003. -
Falun Gong Practitioner Mrs. Guo Lifang from Xiangtan City, Hunan Province Tortured to Death; Mr. Cheng Zhiming and Mr. Li Wenming Also Died from Persecution
2005-05-08On March 31, 2005, three people broke into 54 year old Mrs. Guo Lifang home. They found a copy of the book, Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party on the table, and as a result, they questioned Mrs. Guo closely about its source. The police immediately detained her at the local Detention Centre and tortured her there to extort a confession from her. She suffered from horrendous torture, and from then on, her family members never heard from her. On April 17, several strangers broke into Mrs. Guo's home suddenly, saying that she had died. In only two weeks, Mrs. Guo, a very healthy person, was detained for no reason and tortured to death! -

To protest the persecution in the detention centre, Ms. Dong held a hunger strike, refusing to eat or drink. Police force-fed her with a substance mixed with some unknown drugs. Every time they force-fed her, they forced the tube into Ms. Dong two, three, sometimes even four or five times, causing great pain. Sometimes she was almost suffocated by the force-feeding. -
65 Year Old Ms. Gao Xizhen Died in January 2005 As a Result of the Persecution
2005-05-08In October 2003, Ms. Gao Xizhen was reported to the police while posting Falun Dafa leaflets exposing the persecution. The police arrested her and beat her until she suffered bleeding in her brain. She passed out, but the police did not take her to the hospital for treatment. Instead they drove her to her house, dragged her in a semi-conscious state and robbed her of more than 1000 yuan. Her family sent her to the hospital where they found that Ms. Gao had blood clots in her brain. Since the injury, Gao Xizhen often lost her memory or passed out and fell to the floor. On the afternoon of January 23, 2005, she passed out again but never regained consciousness. -
Three Older Practitioners from Hebei Province Die as a Result of Persecution
2005-05-08In October 2002 59 year old Mr. Wang Xiaoshan was arrested for the second time. After seven months of torture at a detention centre, he was sent to a forced labour camp. In early 2005, Mr. Wang experienced heart failure from the horrifying abuse he suffered, and was released on medical parole on February 6. Later, he was arrested again, and was released only after paying a 1,000 yuan fine. For an impoverished family that has endured persecution for many years, 1,000 yuan was a large amount of money. Wang Xiaoshan passed away on March 27, 2005.
