Assistant Professor Imprisoned for Three Years

In 2002, Ms. Yang Yongping was sentenced to a three-year prison term in the Heilongjiang Provincial Women's Prison, where she was persecuted because of her Falun Gong practice. Ms. Yang recalls her persecution: "We were forced to do hard labour for at least 14 hours each day from 5:30 a.m. until after 10:00 p.m. We were allowed only a few minutes to have meals. Some practitioners went on a labour strike and hunger strikes to protest. The guards forced us to squat for a long time. In December, they dragged us outside to stand in the snow from 8:00 a.m. to after 4:00 p.m. without warm clothing, and we were not allowed to move a bit. Some practitioners were forced to lie on their stomachs on a hill of snow." -
Brutal Torture Inside Jinan Women's Detention Centre
2009-11-25In November, 2007, Ms. Yao Guihua said to the guards in Jinan Women's Detention Centre that it was not right to be "reformed" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. She was detained in a segregation room. Guards and prisoners took turns trying to "reform" her, but she was very determined and shouted firmly, "Falun Gong is good." They got very angry, stuffed a piece of dirty cloth into her mouth, and continued beating and cursing at her. Ms. Yao's legs were struck so hard that they became numb and she could not walk. -
Mr. Liu Qunming, 56, Dies as a Result of Persecution
2009-11-24In 2008, the police arrested a large number of Falun Gong practitioners around the time of the Olympics. On July 7th, 2008, officers broke into Mr. Liu Qunming's home, arrested him, and ransacked his home. Police planned to detain Mr. Liu for 15 days and then send him to a forced labour camp on July 19th. Due to Mr. Liu being on a hunger strike after his arrest, he appeared very sick. The labour camp refused to accept him and he was released. His daughter had to leave home to avoid being arrested. Mr. Liu never recovered from the abuse that he suffered during detention, and he died on the morning of October 27th, 2009. -
Senior Citizen Li Baolin Was Hung Up by One Arm for Ten Day
2009-11-24Mr. Li Baoline has been harassed several times by the police for practising Falun Gong. He has been sentenced to forced labour camp for a year and nine months. The then 66-year-old Mr. Li Baolin was hung up by one arm for ten days, and he was also forced to stand for a long time. During this time, the police slapped him several times and he was left with sequelae. His right arm kept shaking and could hardly hold anything steadily. -
Ms. Xu Lixiu Recounts the Persecution that She and Her Family Have Suffered Since 1999
2009-11-24The following is a statement by Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Lixiu about the persecution suffered by her: "In 1999, I went to Beijing to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong. Police sentenced me to one year in a forced labour camp. I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Police instructed a doctor to force-feed me. It was very brutal. They used a triangle-shaped iron clip to force open my mouth and fixed the clip with bolts and nuts. After that, they inserted a plastic tube into my mouth to my stomach and vigourously stirred it in my stomach. They asked me, 'Are you going to eat or not?' If I did not reply, they would open my mouth wide, which was already badly torn." -
Mr. Dong Guozhao and His Wife Ms. Liao Liqing from Chuxiong City, Yunnan Province Arrested Again
2009-11-24On October 28th, 2009, police from the Domestic Security Division of Wuding County Police Department arrested Mr. Dong Guozhao, 57, and his wife, Ms. Liao Liqing, 51. They are currently detained at the Wuding County Detention Centre. In, 2004, Mr. Dong gave a DVD about the persecution and the beauty of Falun Gong to his former co-worker. The co-worker then reported him to the bureau. As a result, Chuxiong City Police Department ransacked his home. Two days later, on April 17th, 2004, Mr. Dong was sent to a prison and detained until January 4th, 2007. -
Older Practitioner Ms. Yu Shuhua Dies as a Result of Persecution

After the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Yu,63, upheld her belief in Falun Gong. In 2001, in order to avoid being forced to go to a brainwashing centre, Ms. Yu and her son had to leave home. Whenever they came back home for a little while, the police would immediately come to harass them. During the 2008 Olympic season police were repeatedly looking for her, and threatened her relatives. Under long term persecution and eight years of living away from home, she died on October 12th, 2009 and now her son is all alone. -
Fuping County, Hebei Province Police Persecute 67-Year-old Ms. Fan Zhen
2009-11-23Ms. Fan Zhen has been repeatedly arrested for practising Falun Gong. In 2002, Ms. Fan was sent to a detention centre. She went on a hunger strike for nearly 20 days, then was force-fed by guards. Whenever she was force-fed, several detention centre officials and inmates dragged her to the edge of her bed, then two people held her legs, two held her arms and one held her head. Then, they sealed her mouth, while inserting a thick tube into her nose and down her throat. Unknown substances were forced down her throat. After they were finished, they pulled out the tube, which caused bleeding and severe pain. Ms. Fan continues to experience health complications due to the force-feeding. -
The Persecution of County Government Official Mr. Li Qingben
2009-11-23police and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Qingben, 50, off the street on April 7th, 2008. They detained Mr. Li at the Chenquan Police Station and eventually transferred him to the Gansu First Forced Labour Camp after thirty-six days of detention. Guards forced Mr. Li to hold many difficult postures as a form of physical abuse, including "generate power," and "scorpion climbs a wall." When Mr. Li refused to co-operate, criminal He Yingpu kicked him in the chest. Mr. Li felt a shortness of breath and almost lost consciousness. He was released on September 29th, 2009. -
Hewan Forced Labour Camp Forces Practitioners to Do Slave Labour
2009-11-23Over the last decade, guards and prisoners at Hewan Forced Labour Camp in Wuhan have committed thousands of evil deeds to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They force practitioners to do slave labour, beat them, and constantly monitor them. In April 2009, guard Zhang Hao and others beat, kicked, and used electric batons to shock practitioner Mr. Yang Chengtao because he refused to do the slave labour. As a result, Yang became incontinent. -
66-Year-Old Ms. Tan Jinhui Permanently Disabled Due to Persecution
2009-11-22Tan Jinhui is sixty-six years old, from Guanghan City, Sichuan Province. She has been arrested and imprisoned numerous times because she practises Falun Gong. The resulting torture has rendered her physically disabled and unable to take care of herself. In the winter of 2000, Ms. Tan was handing out Falun Gong materials which exposed the persecution when two officers arrested her. In the police station, officer Wang Changjun grabbed her hair and submerged her head in a barrel of water many times, then Jiao Zhongjun began slapping her face. They called Jiang Tianxing from the National Security Bureau, and when he arrived, he began beating Ms. Tan with an iron bar, continuing until the iron bar broke. Her face and nose were severely swollen. -
Husband and Wife Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison, Their Children Suffering
2009-11-22Zhang Zhaolin and Zhang Liyun are a couple from Fuyang City, Anhui Province. Because of their belief in Falun Gong, they were persecuted continuously and fled their home. On October 25th, 2008, when they were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong on the streets of Jinhua City, someone reported them to the local police, and they were arrested and detained. In July 2009, the Wucheng District Court in Jinhua City sentenced the couple to prison, one for seven years and six months and the other to seven years. They are currently detained in the Zhejiang Province No. 2 Prison and Women's Prison, respectively. -
Ms. Liu Hefang Persecuted at the Chongqing Shimahe Women's Forced Labour Camp
2009-11-22Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Hefang has been detained and persecuted at the Shimahe Women's Forced Labour Camp in Jiangbei District since September 18th, 2009. During the last two months Ms. Liu started a hunger strike in protest of the persecution. She was brutally force-fed many times by the police, causing the food they forced down into her stomach to burst out from her mouth. Ms. Liu is still being held in the small cell. Her body is very weak due to long-term abuse. She needs others to hold her when she uses the toilet, and she cannot manage her daily life. -
Officials from the Nanjing 610 Office Arrested Four Elderly Practitioners
2009-11-22On November 3rd, 2009, the head of the Nanjing 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), and police arrested four Falun Gong practitioners who are in their 60s and 70s. The officers also ransacked the practitioners' homes, searched their clothes, and confiscated money from their pockets. Ms. Xie and Ms. Xiong were detained at a brainwashing centre where police officers are known to brutally persecute practitioners with no regard for their age or health. -
The Persecution of Shao Changhua and Zhang Guilan from Dandong City, Liaoning Province
2009-11-21Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Shao Changhua and Ms. Zhang Guilan were arrested in 2004. They were detained at the Dandong Police Station and Shenyang City Women's Prison in Liaoning Province. They both suffered from brutal persecution, and Ms. Shao Changhua was subjected to sleep deprivation for over 20 days. In December 2005, police locked Shao Changhua into a room on the third floor. Prisoners forcibly took off her clothes, covered up her mouth and started to brutally beat her. She suffered multiple broken ribs as a result of the brutal beating.
