Dr. Song Zhaoxia, associate professor at the School of Basic Medicine Science, Jilin University, and her husband, Dr. Wang Yuejian, were arrested on September 9th, by officers from the National Security Team in the Chaoyang District, Changchun City, and Guiyang Street Police Station. Their son, who attends elementary school, was left at home alone. He has not been to school for many days, because he misses his parents.

Their family travelled a long way to get to the School of Basic Medicine Science. They found the deputy secretary of the Party Committee at the school, Fei Shubo, and asked her if the school could make a request to the Public Security Bureau to bail out Song Zhaoxia, considering that her son had no one to take care of him. She rejected their request.

Professor Song plays a key role in teaching and research. Her husband, Dr. Wang, is a theoretical mathematician. In 1997, his talk at the International Conference on Mathematics, which was held in Shanghai, was conducted in English and was praised by experts. Because he follows the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, he is a conscientious and diligent teacher. All of his students respect him.

The couple has been repeatedly persecuted, because both practise Falun Gong. At noon on March 17th, 2006, Dr. Wang Yuejian was arrested by officers from the Zhuhai Street Police Station, which is affiliated with the Economic and Technological Development Zone Division. His home was ransacked and personal belongings were confiscated, including a computer and a printer. After been detained at the Third Detention Centre for one year, he was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour on March 15th, 2007, by officials from the Public Security Bureau in Changchun City. They admitted him to Fenjin Forced Labour Camp in Changchun City on March 16th.

At around 7:30 a.m. on September 9th, Mr. Wang went missing after he left home. That same day, Dr. Song was arrested near her home when she was on her way to school. They were both detained at the Guilin Road Police Station.

When their families went to the police station, they saw officials from Song Zhaoxia's workplace. Officers at the police station claimed that they had received orders from the city's National Security Team. Their home was ransacked twice, and their computer and laptop were confiscated.

That night, Mr. Wang was sent to the Changchun Second Detention Centre (Tiexi Detention Centre) and Ms. Song was sent to the Changchun Third Detention Centre (Shuangyang Sheling Detention Centre).

Another practitioner, Mr. Ma Guohua, a former teacher at Northeast Normal University, was arrested at around 9:30 a.m. by four plainclothes officers when he was at work in the Broadway area of Changchun. His home was ransacked. Mr. Ma is being detained at the Weizigou Detention Centre.

Liu Yunjie, the assistant director of the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) at Jilin University, has been involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners at Jilin University. Phone numbers are: +86-431-85166238, 85151838, 15526866005
