  • Gang Torture Method Used at Zhanjiang City Brainwashing Centre

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. He Zhiwei was brutally tortured by the guards at the Zhanjiang City Brainwashing Centre leaving her with a protruding disc, severe headaches, and dizziness. The guards use people as instruments of torture. The gang torture method works as follows: A practitioner is taken to a room where they are surrounded by a group of people who force the practitioner to stand up. Some people strike the practitioner's head while others attack the practitioner's body. When hitting the practitioner's head, some guards push the practitioner with an open palm, others punch with their fists. At the same time they constantly curse and bully the practitioner with vicious words.
  • Mr. Wang Chengtao Dangerously Emaciated and Mentally Disoriented from Torture in Prison

    Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Wang Chengtao has been relentlessly harassed, tortured, monitored, fined, and detained. In April of 2003, homeless and trying to avoid further persecution, Mr. Wang was taken by the police. He was later sentenced to 11 years imprisonment. He is currently being tortured in Shenyang City's Second Prison. As a result, he is now skin and bones and mentally disoriented Mr. Wang's father was in perfect health until he learned about his son's prison sentence. His father passed away on February 17th, 2009. The father and son did not have a chance to see each other one last time.
  • Police Arrest and Brutally Torture Ms. Yang Wenjie and Ransack Her Home

    On June 1st, 2009, Ms. Yang Wenjie was about to leave her home and had just walked down the stairs when she was arrested by over twenty police from the Zhaoyuan Police Department. As soon as they saw Ms. Yang, they surrounded her, beat and kicked her to the ground, grabbed her arms, stole her house key, and handcuffed her hands behind her back before dragging her into a car. They ransacked her home and confiscated Ms. Yang's friend's computer, printer and various Falun Gong books.
  • The Persecution of Practitioners Employed by Kunming Steel Company, Yunnan Province

    Ms. Guan Hongfen, in her forties, was reported while she was telling people the facts about Falun Gong in a certain village in An'ning City in early 2009. Luckily, she escaped. In March she was arrested by 610 Office personnel and national security police in the An'ning City Police Department, sentenced to two years of forced labour, and taken to the Dabanqiao (also known as the "ten-thousand-people pit"). Another practitioner, who had gone along with Ms. Guan to inform people about the persecution of Falun Gong was also arrested. Her situation is not clear.
  • Former Elementary School Principal Dies after Severe Persecution

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Tan Deyi lived in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. At a forced labour camp, Mr. Tan was forced to make toothpicks. If he could not complete the daily work quota, he was not allowed to eat or sleep and had to work overtime. Mr. Tan resisted, so the guards tortured him by piercing his fingertips with sharp bamboo sticks, hanging him up, and other methods. As a result of gross abuse he suffered from recurring abdominal pain and was unable to do heavy work. Mr. Tan He died at home on June 25th, 2009, at the age of 59.
  • Four Falun Gong Practitioners from Miyi County, Sichuan Province, Disabled Due to Persecution in Prison

    Mr. Zhu Mingchun, a physician, was sentenced to eight years in prison. Because he escaped on the way to the prison and later was arrested again, his prison term was lengthened by one and a half years by the judge and judicial officers at the Miyi County Court on April 6th, 2004. His total prison term is nine and a half years. He is now in Wumaping Prison, Muchuan County. He has also became disabled due to persecution in prison.
  • Changchun City Intermediate Court Obstructs Human Rights Lawyers from Defending Falun Gong Practitioners

    On March 27th, 2009, the Nong'an County Court in Jilin Province held a "public sentencing" of seven Falun Gong practitioners without notifying any family members. After that day, other practitioners and their families hired fourteen human rights lawyers to defend them at the second trial. The Changchun City Intermediate Court continues to obstruct the involvement of the lawyers in this case. After overcoming various obstacles, the fourteen lawyers delivered the lawyers' letter to the intermediate court. The court was afraid after seeing this large team of lawyers that were defending the practitioners, so they never responded regarding the date of the second trial. The date of the second trial is still in limbo.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted in the Yang-ai Prison, Guizhou Province

    The prison guards forbade the family members of the practitioners who refused to give up Falun Gong in Yang-ai Prison to see them, thus cutting off their financial sources. They forced the practitioners to say "The Communist Party is good" before they could eat. To avoid doing that, many practitioners went on hunger strike or simply gave up their meals. A practitioner asked the prison guard Huang Chun: "Why don't you release them for medical treatment when they are in such poor physical condition?" Huang said: "They have not yet been transformed into giving up Falun Gong, so they cannot be released for medical treatment."
  • Practitioner Zhang Hongwei Is Critically Ill after Eight Years in Jilin Prison

    On January 20th, 2001, Mr. Zhang Hongwei was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment by the Fangshan District Court in Beijing after he was found preparing materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. Mr. Zhang has been subjected to brutal torture for eight years. Because he refused to give up his belief, he was forcibly put on a "stretching bed" -- this is where the guards fix a practitioner's limbs to a specially made bed on which there are four rings and the practitioner's hands and feet are fixed in the rings. The guards then apply force to the rings so that the practitioner's body is pulled up, away from the bed as their limbs are stretched. Mr. Zhang is now critically ill, but Jilin Prison authorities won't allow him to be released on bail for medical treatment, and his family has not been not allowed to visit him.
  • Mourning the Loss of Practitioner Zhang Dezhen

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Dezhen, 38 years old, was persecuted to death a few years ago by the Mengyin County 610 Office in Shandong Province. On January 31st, 2003, doctors injected toxic drugs into Zhang Dezhen, which soon caused her death. Zhang Dezhen's family and friends strongly requested the Mengyin County Judicial Department to punish the murderers according to the law. But several years have passed, and they still haven't had any response.
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Peng Xiaomei from Hunan Province Forced into Brainwashing Centre

    On June 9th, 2009, Ms. Peng Xiaomei, 56, a Falun Gong practitioner retired from China Construction Bank in Hunan Province, was arrested by the Liuzhengjie Public Security Bureau in Changsha City. Without any legal representation or judicial protocol, Ms. Peng was taken to the Changsha City Rule of Law Education Training Centre (a brainwashing centre) in Laodaohe Town, Kaifu District, Changsha City. Over the last decade Ms. Peng has endured much harassment and numerous arrests at the hands of the local authorities.
  • Falun Gong Practitioners Beaten and Tortured in the Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp, Changchun City, Jilin Province

    In March 2009 the Heizuizi Labour Camp refused to release a Falun Gong practitioner from the 4th Squadron, although her term had officially ended. Instead, they arbitrarily extended her term and beat her. In protest, other Falun Gong practitioners at the camp refused to perform forced labour, put on the prisoner uniform and name card or to answer roll call. In retaliation, many of those steadfast practitioners were tortured on the so-called "death bed". Ms. Jin Yingshi was then taken to the prison guards' office where many prison guards shouted at her, beat her, and tried to force her to put on the prison uniform, but she refused. After six continuous days of torture she became bedridden and became unable to go to meals on her own.
  • Two Sisters Imprisoned; Their Elderly Father Dies of a Broken Heart

    Ms. Chen Yuxiang and Ms. Chen Yufen, sisters and Falun Gong practitioners from Laixi City, Qingdao, Shandong Province, were arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel and sentenced to five and three years of imprisonment, respectively. Their father was over 80 years old and in poor health. When he heard that his beloved daughters were jailed by the CCP simply because they believed in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and tried to be good, he could not bear the mental pressure and the heavy blow. His condition deteriorated and he passed away in the evening on May 19th, 2009.
  • Practitioners Harassed at the Qingpu District Domestic Security Section in Huai'an City, Jiangshu Province

    The Qingpu District Domestic Security Section in Huai'an City, Jiangshu Province, has harassed more than ten practitioners in the last two months. Ms. Sha Suyun, 74, was arrested on May 25th, 2009, by police and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials. The officers searched her home and interrogated her at the Zhakou Police Station and later at the Qingpu Police Department. Officer Ma Erhua forced her to sign a notice stating that she was sentenced to one year of forced labour and that she would serve her sentence outside the labour camp.
  • Countryside Teacher Zhu Puzhao in Exile to Avoid Further Persecution

    While Mr. Zhu Puzhao was putting up posters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in November 2005 some people reported him and he was arrested. Police sent him to the Hunan Xinkaipu Forced Labour Camp to serve one year and three months of hard labour. Zhu Puzhao was subjected to a multitude of tortures. He suffered brutal forced-feeding. During the forced-feeding, the camp doctor used a device to keep his mouth wide open, then used a pair of pliers to pull his tongue. Porridge mixed with unknown yellow-coloured substances was then forced into his mouth from a funnel connected to a rubber tube. The porridge ran into his lungs as he breathed. It has been a year and a half since Zhu Puzhao decided to leave home and become homeless.
