  • Ms. Chen Huijun, Brutally Beaten by Police Officers, Is in Critical Condition

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Huijun was brutally beaten by police officers after being arrested for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong and is in critical condition. On August 4th, 2008, after overcoming numerous difficulties, her family picked up Ms. Chen and brought her back home. Her condition remains unstable and the doctor said that her life is in danger. During this process, the agencies involved required the family to sign a statement releasing them from any responsibility for Ms. Chen's condition. In order to rescue Ms. Chen, the family unwillingly agreed to their requirement.
  • Cangzhou City Resident Mr. Li Zhifa Suffers Mental Breakdown As a Result of Persecution

    Mr. Li Zhifa, 61, is a resident of Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, and a man of good reputation. Because he follows the principles of Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance, he was persecuted. He suffered a mental breakdown as a result of seven years imprisonment. On July 27th, 2001, Mr. Li Zhifa was arrested. During Mr. Li's two-week detention, the police handcuffed his hands and legs to an iron chair, deprived him of sleep, and took turns interrogating him. They beat him, and shocked him using electric batons. They poured water on him first, then shocked his body, his handcuffs, and his private parts. They hit his head with a mallet daily.
  • Ms. Zhang Yunxian from Shaanxi Province Still Imprisoned after Serving Seven Year Sentence

    Ms. Zhang Yunxian, 60, lived in Xian City, Shaanxi Province. She went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong on December 25th, 1999. The police arrested her at Tiananmen Square on January 1st, 2000 and imprisoned her for seven years. They first held her in a forced labour camp for one year and then incarcerated her at Shaanxi Province Women's Prison for five years. The guards ordered inmates to verbally and physically attack her, and they forced her to wear shackles weighing 53 lbs. Once, Zhang Yunxian had her hands cuffed behind her back for 16 days. She went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, and the guards force-fed her food laced with toxic drugs.
  • Shijiazhuang City Court Plans Second Trial for Liu Lina; Her Whole Family Has Been Persecuted

    Shijiazhuang City Court officials in Hebei Province plan to hold another trial for Ms. Liu Lina next week. The exact date is unknown. On February 15th, 610 Office agents arrested her at home. They also arrested her husband and her brother and took away her computer and printer. The policemen fabricated evidence and a confession and forced her family members to sign the documents before releasing them. Twelve days later, using the falsified confession as proof, they officially arrested Ms. Liu. Currently, she is detained at the Shijiazhuang City No.1 Detention Centre.
  • Paralysed from Torture, Ms. Xiao Yunying Arrested Again

    Ms. Xiao Yunying, 58 years old, started practising Falun Gong in 1997. After the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, Xiao Yunying was detained numerous times in a brainwashing centre, but she firmly refused to write the three statements denouncing her belief. During her detention, both her legs became paralysed due to being tortured, and she has needed special care ever since. During the Olympic Torch Relay in Anyang City, Henan Province, Ms. Xiao Yunying was subjected to more persecution, and was sent to the Xinxiang Women's Prison on July 23rd, 2008.
  • Li Wenhe's Family Members Persecuted in Mancheng County, Hebei Province

    On the evening of August 7th, 2008, Li Zhenxing, the eldest son of Mr. Li Wenhe, and Ma Liuquan were arrested by Chinese Communist Party officials when they were distributing Falun Gong materials about the persecution in a village. The two were beaten in the Xiantai Rural Police Station. In the materials describing the local persecution, Yang Ping, deputy leader of the Rural, was described as talking about when Li Wenhe's home was ransacked. Yang Ping got very angry. On August 8th, Li Wenhe's home was ransacked by police. Mr. Li Wenhe, his wife Zhou Wenfang, and a younger son, Li Zhenning, were arrested.
  • Police Shut Down Pharmacy Run by a Practitioner - Customers Outraged

    On August 1st, 2008, Liu Fa, a Communist Party official entered the Tongxintang Pharmacy in Weixian City. He wanted to confiscate Dr. Gong's identity card. This is a card needed to do bank transactions, make purchases in shopping centres and conduct many business-related activities. Hence, Dr. Gong refused. As a result, Liu Fa called for police officers and had the pharmacy surrounded. Many of Dr. Gong's patients were scared and left the pharmacy. Police confiscated all the medicine and equipment in the pharmacy. They also arrested several employees and ransacked some of their homes. Dr. Gong Zhe, and his staff have been sent to the Zhangjiakou brainwashing centre. One customer said, "Closing the pharmacy has brought harm to many families. This act is truly sinful."
  • Elderly Ms. Tang Liwen Brought to Trial by Inner Mongolia Court

    Ms. Tang Liwen, 68, has been detained for more than eight months and was brought to trial by the Inner Mongolia Tonglia Court. During her detention she was taken to the hospital against her will to be force-fed and was injected with unknown drugs. Her family members have travelled to and from many departments asking for her release. Her husband, 78 years old, is under surveillance and monitored by police officers. People from the local community management committee and the police station have taken turns going into his home to harass him, which has made it very difficult for him to live a normal life.
  • Ms. Zhang Yuzhen's Arms and Hands Disabled from Torture

    Ms. Zhang Yuzhen, 41, is a practitioner from Jiangxi Province. On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began the persecution of Falun Gong and Ms. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and explain the facts about the practice to central government officials. On November 10th, 2000, Ms. Zhang was sentenced to six years in prison in Beijing. The prison guards made many attempts to force Ms. Yuzhen to renounce Falun Gong. They beat her, confined her to solitary confinement, burned her with cigarettes, tied her up and forced her to endure exposure to the hot summer sun, depriving her of sleep, baths, and family visits. They handcuffed and shackled her and hung her up by the handcuffs. Torture caused severe swelling of her arms and disabled her arms and hands so severely that she was unable to take care of herself.
  • Married Couple Ms. Li Mingyan and Mr. Meng Xianwu's Experiences of Being Persecuted

    On the morning of June 17th, 2008, Mr. Meng Xianwu, an internal medicine doctor at a factory hospital, was arrested by officers from the Xijie Police Station in Huludao City, Liaoning Province. At noon, three policemen knocked at Ms. Li Mingyan's door, (Li is Meng's wife), and claimed that they were there to collect the electricity fee. Li Mingyan refused to open the door. The officers threatened, "If you don't open the door, we'll break into your house through the windows. Once we are in, we are going to beat you to death."
  • Practitioners from Jiamusi City Sent to Forced Labour Camps

    On the morning of July 30th, 2008, practitioners Ms. Wang Guizhen, Ms. Fan Shujuan and Ms. Sun Hongwei, were arrested by police from the Jiaxi Police Station because they had told many people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police also ransacked their homes. Later, their family members went to the police station and asked for the release of these practitioners. The police refused to release them and they used the excuse that the arrests were necessary for the "security of the Olympic Games."
  • Ms. Yuan Jieling and Ms. Liu Huirong from Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province Arrested

    On August 4th, 2008, Ms. Yuan Jieling and Ms. Liu Huirong, both from Gaozhou City in Guangdong Province, went to Xieji Town to explain the facts about Falun Gong, but were arrested by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel, and then imprisoned at the Gaozhou Municipal Detention Centre. Ms. Liu's home was ransacked and her personal belongings were confiscated on the same day she was arrested.
  • Mr. Li Wenzhi Missing After Release From Yinmahe Forced Labour Camp in Jiutai City, Jilin Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Wenzhi, 40, was sentenced to 18 months of forced labour in April 2008 and taken to the Yinmahe Labour Camp in Jiutai City. In late August, Mr. Li's parents received an unexpected phone call from the Dongguang Police Station. The elderly couple was puzzled when police asked them whether Mr. Li had returned home. He said that Mr. Li had been released on August 18th. Mr. Li' parents, brother, sister, and other relatives are seeking information about his possible whereabouts, as he remains missing. It is unknown why Mr. Li was released on August 18th or why the police who arrested him were called ten days later.
  • Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Tian Fang and Her Family of Six Have Been Persecuted Since 1999 and Separated for the Past Nine Years

    Ms. Tian Fang and her family of six from Tongliao City in Inner Mongolia have not been united in the past nine years due to the persecution of Falun Gong, which began in 1999. The six practitioners have accumulated a combined total of nearly 30 years of detention or prison time over the past nine years. The once wealthy family has experienced separation, the bankruptcy of their business, and becoming penniless under the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution. In September 2004, Tain Fang was sentenced to for four years in prison. The guards and prisoners subjected her to brutal torture that included making her stand naked in the wintertime, burning her face with cigarettes, electric shocks, brushing her face with a toilet brush, slapping her in the face, punching and kicking her, and putting her in heavy shackles. Sometimes the prison guards would make six or seven prisoners beat her.
  • Mr. Zhou Ning and Ms. Yue Lihua Sentenced in Jining City, Shandong Province; Zhou Ning Letter of Appeal

    On July 24th, 2008, Shizhong District Court judges in Jining City, Shandong Province, sentenced Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Zhou Ning and Ms. Yue Lihua without notifying their lawyers. Mr. Zhou was sentenced to five years in prison, and Ms. Yue to three. Prior to sentencing, Zhou Ning's lawyer called the judge several times to inquire about the progress in the case. But the court officials either didn't answer the phone or said the judge was out if they did.
