  • Ms. Ye Qiaoming and Her Son Threatened by the Fuzhou City 610 Office, Forcing Them to Dismiss Their Lawyers

    Police officials from the Fuzhou City 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and the Domestic Security Division threatened Falun Gong practitioner Ye Qiaoming and her 18-year-old son, forcing them to dismiss the defence lawyers they had hired. Cangshan District Court cancelled the original hearing and rescheduled it for the morning of April 9th. Ms. Ye was not represented by a defence attorney.
  • Ms. Jiang Xinbo from the Jiansanjiang Area of Heilongjiang Province Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

    On September 10th, 2009, Ms. Jiang was distributing Falun Gong DVDs at the Qianjin Farmer's Market when she was arrested by police. She was taken to Jiansanjiang Detention Centre, where the deputy chief of the detention centre, Ji Qian, savagely beat her. In January 2010, the Jiansanjiang Area Court of Heilongjiang Province sentenced Ms. Jiang Xinbo, a Falun Gong practitioner, to four years in prison but didn't notify her family until March. Ms. Jiang was taken to the Harbin City Women's Prison in Heilongjiang Province.
  • Wife of Xu Zhi from Baiquan County, Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, Recounts the Persecution of Her Husband Since 2000

    I had a happy family before the Chinese Communist regime started its suppression of Falun Gong in 1999. My husband, Xu Zhi, has been arrested, detained, sentenced to prison, and brutally tortured many times. The officers at Hulan Intensive Training Centre ordered prison inmates to torture Xu Zhi to try to get him to renounce Falun Gong in writing. They repeatedly beat my husband from head to toe with rubber hoses. Due to the excruciating pain in his head, he had to sleep at night without leaning his head on any surface. The pain in his legs made him limp. There is no longer joy or happiness in my home. My family has been destroyed as a result of China's persecution of Falun Gong.
  • Ms. Liu Chunyan Detained and in Critical Condition--Elderly Mother Publishes Open Letter Asking for Her Release

    The following is an open letter written by Ms. Liu's mother, demanding her daughter's release: As a previously critically ill patient, my daughter became healthy, both mentally and physically. It was Falun Gong that changed and saved her. She has no other intentions but to compassionately tell people about her own experience benefiting from Falun Gong. Her only hope is that people will understand the beauty of Falun Gong and learn about the brutal persecution that the government is carrying out against Falun Gong. What she said was all true from her personal experience, and it was done in a just and honourable way, she didn't violate the Constitution, and she no laws. Furthermore, you know as well as I that she didn't hurt anyone in doing so.
  • Shang Xiaodong, Yin Jun and Zhang Fengqin in Changchun City Sentenced to Forced Labour

    On March 5th, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Shang Xiaodong, Ms. Yin Jun, Ms. Zhang Fengqin, and Ms. Yao Meiling, were arrested by police officers from the Changchun City Public Security Bureau and Nanguan Branch. The following day they were taken to the Third Detention Centre in Changchun City. A month later, the practitioners were then sentenced to forced labour without their families being notified. The police did not give their families any documents and did not allow them to visit.
  • Chen Guang and Yan Hongen Sentenced by Huantai County Court

    In May 2009, two Falun Gong practitioners were arrested by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities while distributing Falun Gong distributing leaflets exposing the persecution. One of them gave out Ms. Chen's name under cruel interrogation. On May 12th, 2009, personnel from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) arrested Ms. Chen in her home and also confiscated personal property including 60,000 yuan. The total loss was about 300,000 yuan. Then, in April 2010, after about one year's detention and persecution, the Huantai County Court gave Ms. Chen a seven-year prison sentence.
  • Mr. Chen Jizhong and Ms. Chen Jihuan Sentenced to Prison in Heilongjiang Province

    Mr. Chen Jizhong, 69, and his younger sister, Ms. Chen Jihuan, 56, have been arrested and had their homes searched by police officers from Yilan County. Both brother and sister have recently been secretly sentenced by the Yilan County Court. Mr. Chen Jizhong has been sentenced to six years in prison, and Ms. Chen Jihuan to four years in prison. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, Mr. Chen has been arrested five times, and was held at the Lianjiangkou Prison in Jiamusi City for five years. Ms. Chen was previously sentenced to three years of forced labour, despite her legs being disabled.
  • Ms. Liu Zhimei and Her Caregiver Ms. Gao Chunhong Arrested

    Ms. Liu Zhimei was admitted by Tsinghua University with the highest entrance score in Shandong Province. Because she persisted in her practice of Falun Gong, she was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment and suffered a mental collapse. The prison administration injected her with unknown drugs before her release in 2008, causing her to suddenly become insane three days after arriving home. Ms. Liu and several local Falun Gong practitioners who have been taking care of her were arrested in April 2010.
  • Two Sisters from Tangshan City Secretly Sentenced

    Ms. Wang Xiuwen and Ms. Wang Xiuqin, who had been arrested six months ago by police while they were distributing information about the persecution of Falun Gong in a market were secretly sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment. Officers from the Xiaoji Township Police Station ransacked their home on January 21st and abducted their sister, Ms. Wang Xiuli. They threatened Wang Xiuli to prevent her from hiring a lawyer or requesting the release of her sisters.
  • Changsha City Court Sentences Ms. Song Fangming to Three Years in Prison without Evidence

    On September 28th, 2009, police broke into Ms. Song Fangming's mother's home. They arrested Falun Gong practitioner Song Fangming, her mother Zou Guihua, who is blind, and their maid. They also confiscated two cars on their property. The maid was released on the same day. Zou Guihua was not released until fifteen days later. Ms. Song, however, was prosecuted by the Tianxin District Procuratorate for crimes she didn't commit and sent to a detention centre in Changsha City.
  • Tyranny in Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Tang Suzhen is over 60 years old. When she was incarcerated in Chongqing Women's Forced Labour camp in 2005 she was locked up in a confined space, forced to squat for long periods of time, and stand in "military postures" for extended periods of time. Guards Hu Xiaoyan and Chen Yanyan instigated drug addicts Luo Deying, Zhao Qin and others to beat her, curse at her, tell her lies, force her to stand in the hot sun, physically punish her, add unknown drugs to her food, and only allow her to sleep for two to three hours a day. After two months of such torture she had become emaciated, her feet were so swollen that they wouldn't fit in her shoes, and she couldn't concentrate. During this time she was not permitted to see her family.
  • The Fuzhou City 610 Office's Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners During the Past Two Years

    Mr. Zheng Shizhen was arrested by police on January 10th, 2008, while handing out Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. He was detained at the Second Detention Centre in Fuzhou City. Later he was released. On March 27th, 2008, 70-year-old Ms. Zhao Fengrong was arrested by the Huada Police near Tongpan Elementary School. The police then raided her home and took away her computer, printer, CDs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, and other personal belongings. Zhao Fengrong was sentenced to three years in prison and she is currently imprisoned at the Fuzhou City Women's Prison.
  • The Persecution of a Retired Military Officer

    In 2002, Mr. Feng Xupeng, a retired military officer from Shanghai, was arrested and imprisoned for giving out DVDs that exposed the persecution of Falun Gong. Due to the brutal tortures he suffered, he can't do any physical work, gets easily tired, and his legs shake. His wife left him after being subjected to tremendous pressure by the authorities. Mr. Feng currently doesn't have a place to stay and is in financial difficulty. He recounts his persecution: "I was imprisoned for two years and six months in Shanghai City Third Forced Labour Camp. I had to do slave labour from dawn to dusk--making lawn lamps and wrapping stationary appliances for companies overseas. I was frequently beaten and kicked by many inmates."

    My name is Mei Xuan, and I am an Erhu player (traditional Chinese musical instrument) in the Shen Yun Performing Arts Company. I am writing this open letter as the wife of a detained Falun Gong practitioner. On February 18th, 2010, I was waiting for my husband, Jiang Feng, at Newark Airport, New York. After all the passengers had left, I still didn't see him. I had been longing for this reunion for a long time, ever since he obtained a visa to visit the U.S. But suddenly, he had disappeared, which made me so sad. I found out that State Security agents arrested him before he could board the airplane. He is now detained in the Luyang District Brainwashing Centre in Hefei City, Anhui Province. I cannot express the pain in my heart upon learning of this.
  • Lawyers for Qitaihe City Practitioners Defend Their Innocence During Trial

    A dozen police officers arrested six practitioners on September 22nd, 2009. Among them, Li Fengbo suffered late stage lung cancer as a result of the persecution and was released. On April 1st-2nd, 2010, the Qitaihe City Xinxing District Court tried the practitioners. Two attorneys defended two of the practitioners. When Qitaihe City authorities learned that the practitioners' families had hired attorneys to defend them in court, they immediately reported it to the Beijing Law Enforcement Bureau, which in turn pressured the law firms, attempting to force them not to defend the practitioners' innocence, but instead to plead only for reduced punishment. The authorities also harassed the attorneys with threatening telephone calls.
