Model Teacher Tortured in Forced Labour Camp for Practising Falun Gong
2015-03-14Ms. Xia Jiayan was an award-winning teacher and named a “Model Worker in Education”. Having regained her health after starting to practise Falun Gong in 1996, she eagerly told others about the practice, and later, the persecution. Her simple act landed her in police custody many times. In particular, she was brutally tortured in a labour camp for one and a half years between late 2000 and early 2002. She was later forced to live away from home after constant threats and harassment by police. Ms. Xia was again arrested in September 2014. Her school, which had fired her in 2006, now refuses to reinstate her. -
Husband Cremated Alive, Wife Wanted by Police for Practising Falun Gong
2015-03-14Ms. Luo Zehui and her husband Mr. Jiang Xiqing were arrested together in 2008 for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was sentenced to eight years and her husband given one year of forced labour. Mr. Jiang was cremated alive in January 2009 after being in critical condition due to brutal torture. His attorneys were beaten by the police for seeking justice for him, and his son was forced to provide false evidence in favour of the labour camp guards. -
845 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Shandong Province in 2014
2015-03-14In 2014, the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong entered its 15th year unabated. According to data compiled by Minghui.org, a total of 6,415 practitioners were arrested last year across China, with Shandong Province topping the list with the most arrests. In 2014, there was continued evidence of blood samples forcibly taken from Falun Gong practitioners in Shandong Province. As the authorities often refused to offer a legitimate reason, many of the concerned practitioners suspected their blood samples were to be used for matching transplant patients with unwilling donors like them. It came to light in 2006 that the communist regime harvests organs from living imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners for profit. -
Man, 42, Dies Within Two Months of Release on Medical Parole
2015-03-13Mr. Tan Degang was sentenced to three and a half years in January 2013 for exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. He was transferred to a local prison two months later and soon developed liver cancer due to brutal torture. He was eventually released on medical parole in January of this year, only to die less than two months later. He was 42. -
“It's So Cold in the Cell with No Heat”
2015-03-06When Ms. Ma Dongmei's older sister visited her in Shenyang Women's Prison before the Chinese New Year, she was stunned by what she saw - her younger sister, who wore an ill-fitting jacket, had a blank look in her eyes, her face was puffy and her hair was a mess. Ms. Ma complained to her older sister, “The guards didn't give me any kind of cover to use at night. I had to borrow one, but it's still so cold in the cell with no heat…” Ms. Ma was transferred to the prison on December 26th, 2014, four months after she was sentenced to six years for practising Falun Gong. -
Woman Dies of Stroke Following Harassment and Threats by Police
2015-03-06Ms. Li Youqin, a 78-year-old woman from Daxing'anling, Heilongjiang Province, passed away last August, after remaining in a coma for about two months following a sudden stroke. Ms. Li was arrested last May while distributing Shen Yun DVDs [a New York-based world-class traditional Chinese cultural show] on the street. She firmly refused to reveal her name or address. The police threatened that they would come for her later. Less than two weeks later, she had a sudden stroke and lost consciousness. -
Driven Insane during Imprisonment, Young Woman Recently Found Dead in Well
2015-03-06On February 13th, 2015, a villager and child made a grisly discovery in a village in Laiyang City, Shandong Province. While taking a morning walk, they found a body floating in a well. The body was identified as Ms. Liu Zhimei, a woman in her mid-30s. Ms. Liu never got a chance to finish college due to the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong. She suffered for six years in prison, where she was repeatedly drugged and developed psychotic symptoms. -
Seventy-Year-Old Sentenced to Prison for Refusing to Renounce Falun Gong
2015-02-24“Given your age, we'll release you if you sign the repentance statement” [promising to stop practising Falun Gong], the judge told 70-year-old Mr. Zhou Chuanye at his trial. Mr. Zhou was arrested on April 22nd, 2014, for practising Falun Gong. He was tried at Shahekou District Court. Because he hadn't broken any laws, Mr. Zhou did not sign the statement renouncing Falun Gong. He instead challenged the indictment, and told the court that Falun Gong is great. However, Mr. Zhou was sentenced to three years in prison. -
Accountant from Liaoning Province Tortured in Prison
2015-02-24Mr. Chen Fu, a 44-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Shenyang City, is detained in Xihu Prison in Benxi City, Liaoning Province. He is confined to a solitary cell and being severely tortured. He was electrically shocked, whipped, beaten with canes, punched and kicked, deprived of sleep, made to do hard labour, doused with hot water when it was hot and cold water when it was cold, forced to sit on a miniature bench for a long time, and had his fingers pierced. -
Former Police Chief Sentenced to 6 Years as Wife Finishes 3-Year Imprisonment
2015-02-24Fifty-three-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Zhongxuan was arrested last September after three years of living away from home to avoid police harassment. Denied legal representation, he was sentenced to six years this February without his family's knowledge. His wife had been released from a three-year term of imprisonment only a few months earlier. -
Mr. Zhou Dulun Imprisoned and Tortured Again after Nine Years of Incarceration
2015-02-24Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhou Dulun has become emaciated and is at the brink of physical and mental collapse in Yongchuan Prison in Chongqing. He has been forced to sit on a small stool and labour for long hours; the prison forces him to stay up until 2 or 3 a.m. and wakes him up at 5 a.m., to get the maximize amount of labour out of him. Mr. Zhou was tried and sentenced to three and a half years in prison in June 2014 for spreading information about Falun Gong. -
Younger Sister Driven Insane in Police Custody, Older Sister Beaten to Death
2015-02-23Ms. Sun Jinjun was arrested on July 21st, 2014 because she practised Falun Gong. After being abused in police custody, she suffered a relapse of schizophrenia that had developed while she was incarcerated at a labour camp 14 years ago. She is now facing possible trial. Her recent arrest added to her family's suffering at the hands of the Chinese Communist regime: her older sister Ms. Sun Yuhua was killed in a guard-instigated beating in Liaoning Province Women's Prison in 2003 for practising Falun Gong. -
Man Recounts 12 Years of Torture for Broadcasting TV Programme Exposing Persecution of Falun Gong
2015-02-23A group of seven practitioners in Lanzhou, Gansu Province tapped into a local TV station to broadcast programs exposing the persecution in August 2002. Two months later, they were all given heavy sentences ranging from 10 to 19 years in prison. Mr. Qiang Xiaoyi was among the sentenced. He managed to survive brutal torture in three different prisons during his twelve years of imprisonment. -
China's Forced Labour Camps and Their Horrors Not Abolished, Just Renamed
2015-02-16Chinese officials publicly announced their decision to abolish the notorious forced labour camp system on January 7th, 2013, according to a December 2013 Amnesty International report. The report also pointed out that this system that had existed for about six decades has not changed its colours, only its identity. For example, Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, one of the most notorious labour camps, was renamed by the Chinese Communist regime to Masanjia Ward of Liaoning Women's Prison. Most of the camp guards were retained and about 50 Falun Gong practitioners are incarcerated in the Masanjia Ward today. -
Police Harass Daughter of Tortured-to-Death Victim
2015-02-16Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Qin Yueming died at the Jiamusi Prison after guards force-fed him in February 2011. Mr. Qin's wife and two daughters are seeking justice. Despite all the red tape, their case was accepted by the Compensation Committee of the Higher People's Court in Heilongjiang Province in September 2011. However, the family has been under intense pressure by the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) to withdraw their case. The women were threatened, harassed, and monitored.
