United States: New York Supreme Court Hears the Lawsuit Against Liang Guanjun for the Assault of Falun Gong Practitioners
2004-12-31On December 20th, 2004, oral arguments were heard by the New York Supreme Court in the case of the public assault of Falun Gong practitioners. Liang Guanjun (closely affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party) and others were charged with the public assault of Falun Gong practitioners outside New York Chinatown's Yidong Restaurant in June 2003. The practitioners' attorney reasoned that although Liang Guanjun attempted to escape his responsibility because of his position in Chinatown, U.S. law will not allow him to escape justice. -
Taiwan: A Successful Seminar is Held by Practitioners at Taidong Sports Experimental High School
2004-12-31On the morning of December 15, 2004, over 400 teachers and students of Taidong Sports Experimental High School attended their weekly meeting in the school auditorium. This week, the topic of the meeting was "Life Education," and the school administration invited three Falun Gong practitioners to conduct a seminar. -
Indonesia: 200 Textile Factory Workers Practise Falun Gong
2004-12-31In Solo, Indonesia, there is a textile factory with about 200 workers who have been practising Falun Gong since 2001. They exercise together and read Falun Gong book every morning. There is a new atmosphere throughout the factory. The environment has become cleaner and the whole factory's productivity has improved significantly. -
Hong Kong: High Court Agrees to Hear Falun Gong Practitioners' Appeal in Obstruction Case
2004-12-30The Hong Kong Court of Final Appeals approved Falun Gong practitioners' appeal against the remaining convictions of eight Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong practitioners welcomed the court's decision and said that this case involves not only Falun Gong; it also has a significant impact on rule-of-law and human rights conditions in Hong Kong, both of which are of great concern for Hong Kong's citizens. -
United States: Department of Justice Seeks Deportation of Former Nazi Guard

Australia: Practitioner Brings Lawsuit against Jiang Zemin - Chinese Embassy Attempts to Obstruct
2004-12-29Ms. Zhang Cuiying, a renowned artist of traditional Chinese paintings and a Falun Dafa practitioner, filed a lawsuit against the former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin and the 610 Office for genocide, torture, and crimes against humanity. The case was accepted by the Supreme Court of New South Wales Australia and the two defendants were ordered to appear in court on December 10th, 2004. Officials in the Chinese Embassy are working with different offices in Australia in an effort to end the lawsuit. -
Falun Dafa in Sri Lanka
2004-12-29Falun Dafa practitioners from Sri Lanka held a "Falun Dafa Open Day" program on December 11th, 2004 with the help of a local non-governmental organization. During the activity, they demonstrated the Falun Dafa exercises and introduced Falun Dafa to local residents who joined in the activities. -

Tanzania: Tanzanian Court Proceeds with Case against Chen Zhili, Charged with Torture and Extra Judicial Killing of Falun Gong Practitioners in China
2004-12-28On December 7th, 2004, Tanzania's court prodeeded with the case against Chen Zhili, former Minister of Education and current State Councilor of the People's Republic of China. She is charged with responsibility for the torture and death of Falun Gong practitioners connected with China's education system. She was ordered to appear before Tanzania's court on July 19th. The court may issue its ruling as early as next week. -

Taiwan: Falun Gong Exercise Demonstration at Yonghwa Elementary School Sports Meet in Tainan City
2004-12-27The annual sports meeting for the Tainan Yonghwa Elementary School and local community was held this year on December 18th. Besides the traditional sports contests, there was a new show this year: a demonstration of the five Falun Gong exercises by first graders. During the demonstration, the teachers expressed their surprise at the transformation in the students. -
United States: President Bush Signs New Legislation That Denies Entry to Those Who Have Engaged in Torture
2004-12-26On December 17th, 2004, United States President George W. Bush signed into law the Anti-Atrocity Alien Deportation Act in Washington, D.C. The act authorises the Justice Department to track down foreigners who have engaged in war crimes, torture, genocide, religious persecution, or other human rights violations. These foreigners will face denial of entry or deportation. -
