  • Older Practitioner Ms. Fu Guiqin's First-hand Account of the Long-term Persecution She Has Suffered

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fu Guiqin, 59, has suffered repeated persecution spanning over a decade, including multiple arrests, detentions, forced labour, brainwashing, and torture. In her own words he recounts the torture at Wanjia Forced Labour Camp: "All of the Falun Gong practitioners were on a hunger strike to protest the detention. On the sixth day, the guards gathered all the practitioners into a queue and tried to stop our hunger protest by force-feeding us. Criminal inmates and guards pinned each of us down to a chair, and forcibly fed us with corn paste from a small plastic basin. Sometimes they also inserted a rubber tube into our noses and down to our stomachs to force-feed us. The food came out of my nose and blood came out of my mouth. They tortured me like this every day for about a month."
  • Practitioner in His Sixties from Weifang, Shandong Province on the Verge of Death Due to Persecution in Labour Camp

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Man Shouzheng, 63, from Weifang, Shandong Province, was sentenced to a one-year term in a forced labour camp for practising Falun Gong. When he was released in March 2010, he could no longer talk, as he had developed late-stage tongue cancer. He previously weighed 176 pounds. After being severely persecuted in the labour camp he now weighs less than 110 pounds. In April 2009, Mr. Man was arrested by police. He was detained in a Zhucheng brainwashing centre and he was brutally beaten by Mao Yulong. He was forced to lie on his back, while another person stomped on his body and his head.
  • Practitioner Zhang Jiuliang Near Death in Hubei Province Shayang Prison

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Jiuliang is being persecuted in the Shayang City Fanjiatai Prison. He is so emaciated that his body looks deformed. He is 1.8 metres tall (5ft-11in), but weights only around 110 pounds. He was forced by the persecutors to swallow over ten unknown drugs, and he is now on the verge of the death. The police continue to cruelly taunt him and have said, "You still want to get out of here? No doubt you will die here!"
  • Mr. Zhang Jinsheng Arrested in Hebei Province

    Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Jinsheng was arrested at his home on July 21st, 2010, and taken to the Heshui City Brainwashing Centre. Both of his daughters were out of town working and didn't know he had been arrested and locked up at the brainwashing centre. Mr. Zhang's wife Fang Xinzhi, who was also a practitioner, died on November 21st, 2007, while Mr. Zhang was detained at a forced labour camp. She had served three years in a forced labour camp, but was arrested again on May 12th, 2006. Officers from the Zhengkou Town Police Station twisted her wrist so severely that the bones fractured.
  • Court Hearings Delayed to Prevent Beijing Defence Lawyers from Attending

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Liyu was arrested when she returned to her hometown and was seen talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang was taken to Yongtai County Detention Centre, and was to await a court hearing at the Yongtai County Court in Fuzhou City. When officials from the court found out that Ms. Zhang's family had hired a lawyer from Beijing, Yan Xingnuan, chief judge of Yongtai County Court, and another court official forcibly told Ms. Zhang's family to replace the Beijing lawyer with a local lawyer.
  • Older Practitioner Ms. Chen Xiufen Died Seven Years Ago after Being Tortured

    Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Xiufen, 61, was arrested in 2000 and subjected to the thumbcuff torture technique during her one-month detention at the Kunshan Detention Centre. To intensify her suffering, the police pushed her tightly against some metal poles, stretched her arms around the poles and then put a thumbcuff on her thumbs. Ms. Chen was arrested again in July 2002. Four officers dragged her along the ground from her home down some stairs, and she was detained in the brainwashing centre. She was detained for one month. The repeated mental and physical tortures severely damaged her health. Ms. Chen died on June 23rd, 2003, in hospital.
  • Instructor at Shanghai Jiaotong University Sentenced to Four Year Prison Term

    On July 6th, 2010, the Shanghai Baoshan Court sentenced Mr. Guo Xiaojun, a Falun Gong practitioner and former instructor at Shanghai Jiaotong University, to four years in prison. Prior to the sentencing, Mr. Guo had been detained for over six months. This is his second imprisonment, as he was imprisoned for five years in the infamous Tilanqiao Prison beginning in August 2000. Before the trial, presiding judge Xu Minfang forbade the defence lawyer to defend Falun Gong practitioners. The Beijing lawyer informed the court that prosecuting practitioners as criminals was a waste of state resources. In court, Mr. Guo Xiaojun claimed his innocence. He also exposed the brutal interrogation he suffered at the hands of the Shanghai Baoshan Police Bureau and Baoshan Detention Centre.
  • Ms. Ding Zhenfang Subjected to Severe Abuse, Dabei Women's Prison Authorities Deny Her Family Visitation

    Ms. Ding Zhenfang from Dalian City, Liaoning Province has been subjected to severe abuse at Dabei Women's Prison in Shenyang City. She is currently in critical condition. Her husband and other family members went to visit her on July 22nd. When they arrived, the prison officials refused to allow them to visit her. The reason given was, "Ding Zhenfang is in poor health, and not in suitable condition for visitation." Ms. Ding has been subjected to persecution four times since the persecution started on July 20th, 1999. She has been detained in prison for seven years, but she has never given up her belief in Falun Gong.
  • Upright Defence of Falun Gong Practitioners Upsets Judges During a Show Trial in Changde City Court

    Wuling District Court (located in Changde City, Hunan Province) held show trial on June 11th, 2010, against several Falun Gong practitioners. When the defence attorney declared that the practitioners were innocent, the judges appeared very nervous. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Haijun said in court, "By practising the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, I am being a conscientious member of society who abides by the law. I am also striving to be a kinder person with a higher moral standard. How can this be unlawful? How can this be a crime?" The judges were visibly stunned and in a panic.
  • Schoolteacher Ms. Du Qingxiu Tortured and Abused in Masanjia Women's Forced Labour Camp

    Ms. Du Qingxiu is a Falun Gong practitioner and teacher at the Lingyuan City Middle School No. 2, in Liaoning Province. In 2007, she was detained at the Masanjia Women's Forced Labour Camp for one year and three months. Guards punched Ms. Du in the lower abdomen. And the torture they also used was somewhat like the "separating the body with five horses," with her arms stretched out. Ms. Du was tortured like this for about five to six hours. Her arms were injured and very painful. Her injuries did not heal for a long time.
  • A Dental Clinic Administrator in Wuhan Arrested and Taken to a Brainwashing Centre

    Wuchang Boya Western Medicine Dental Clinic was seized and demolished by China Ship Research and Design Centre (No. 701 Institution), causing huge economic losses. All the medical equipment and medications inside the building were buried, resulting in an economic loss of over 200,000 yuan. Ms. Wang Xiaoming, the clinic administrator, filed a lawsuit against the No. 701 Institution. However, Shouyilu Police Station and the 701 Institution worked together to apprehend her and have her admitted to a brainwashing centre just because Ms. Wang practises Falun Gong.
  • Practitioners Mr. Luo Changyong and Ms. Chen Chihui Sentenced in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province

    On July 15th, 2010, the Longquanqi District Court in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province sentenced Mr. Luo Changyong to five years in prison, and Ms. Chen Chihui to three-and-a-half-years in prison. Police arrested the two practitioners while they were travelling through Huangtu Town on September 20th, 2009. The practitioners were tortured during their subsequent detention. Mr. Luo told the court that the photos used by the prosecutors were obtained through torture interrogation. Officers first tried to make the practitioners admit to making the Falun Gong banners and stickers in Huangtu Town. After they denied this, the officers deprived them of any sleep for five days.
  • Large Numbers of Falun Gong Practitioners in Jiaozhou City Have Been Sentenced and Sent to Forced Labour Camps or Mental Hospitals

    Ms. Zhang Ling, in her 20s, went to Beijing to appeal for an end to the persecution in October 2000. The police brought her back and detained her for 14 days. They extorted 4,000 yuan from her family to have her released on bail, but then covertly held her at Jiaozhou Detention Centre. Fifteen days later, Jiaozhou Construction Bureau officials sent Ms. Zhang to the Jiaozhou Mental Hospital without notifying her family. Fuan Police Station officials arrested Mr. Xu Yanzhong in 2004 and incarcerated him in the Nantan Detention Centre. Two days later he was forcibly sent to a mental hospital and injected with nerve-damaging drugs four times a month while regular mental patients were injected once a month.
  • Practitioner Hu Biao Refutes the Absurd Charges Levelled Against Him

    Mr. Hu Biao, 64, is from Guizhou Province. Police arrested him on March 30th, 2009. Gulin County Court officials tried him on November 19th that year. Mr. Hu is currently imprisoned at the Gulin County Detention Centre. Mr. Hu states, "During my trial, my two lawyers and I requested that the public prosecutor present any legal evidence he could find to substantiate his allegation that Falun Gong is a cult. He couldn’t produce anything. The truth is that no Chinese law has ever prohibited the cultivation of Falun Gong, or ever named Falun Gong a cult. Our practice of Falun Gong is in full compliance with the law. The crime the court charged me with is simply a fabrication, and is itself a form of persecution."
  • How an Engineer Lost His Eyesight

    Mr. Kong Dewen was an engineer in Hefei City, Anhui Province. He started practising Falun Gong in 1996, and his illnesses disappeared without any medication in less than a month. He strove to be a good person following Falun Gong's teachings. In turn, his family relationships became more harmonious and his co-workers considered him trustworthy. Mr. Kong was later persecuted by the Chinese communist government for his beliefs. He was poisoned while in jail, resulting in blindness.
